I'm new, but have lurked here for about a month now, and thought I should finally write just to say thank you! I'm sure there are lots of people like me who come to the forum and just read, but don't feel they know everyone well enough to join in the coversation yet. You have helped me on my raw journey more than you will know! I am 48, and my hubby and I have juiced a few times a week for a year. Then I started walking/jogging with a heart rate monitor, which started me losing weight after plateauing for 6 months. Then I found the sprout forum, and started growing those two months ago. Their forum led me to this one, and I have been doing about 85-90% raw for the last month. What a difference! Am completely off my allergy meds now, IBS is gone (whohooo!), arthritis in my knees is much better, and the list goes on.... I am lucky that I have a husband who, although not raw, makes healthy choices and excercises daily. He's very supportive of me and tries each thing I make - I actually saw him blow on the zucchini fettucini w/maranara sauce as if it were hot! I thought that was so funny, because he knew it was a cold dish, but his eyes told him it was his usual hot dish :)
I was 210 lbs 2 years ago and am 148 now (only 5'3"), so I have a bit more to go, but most days I find this lifestyle enjoyable as the food tastes great and I can eat when I'm hungry til I am satisfied. That's such a change from my past dieting! I walk 5 miles every other day, about 20 per week. Used to run, but had knee surgery, so walking is it now. But when I started having some raw granola before my walk instead of my usual dead cereal, what a difference - now I am still going full speed when I get back home, then I have my green smoothie.
The biggest difference for me, besides the weightloss, is how I feel mentally, things no one else can really see. I don't just try to put a smile on and be happy now, I really AM happy! I am lucky in the fact that I am off work during the summer, so if I have a day when I don't feel great due to detox, it's ok, I can nap and take it easy. I am trying to get the hang of some basic recipes, so when I face the girls at school next month, I won't be sabotaged into cooked food again :D Things are so stressful at the first of the year, that I want to be well prepared! We have two teachers with cancer, both are petite, looked and ate healthy (but cooked), and one young parent who just passed away from cancer a few weeks ago. I want do do what I can now to be healthy and not wait until something serious makes me turn my life around! Thank you so much for this place to come each day to help keep me focused on my journey!
