Hey Rachel -- I put some info up here (http://www.uncooking101.com/basic-green-smoothie-recipe.html) about green smoothies and the basics. I'm pretty sure that if I hadn't found out about green smoothies right after I went raw, that it wouldn't have gone as smoothly.

The thing is, that green smoothies help to get rid of toxins through your bowels instead of through other organs such as your skin. That might help a lot with the skin issues you mentioned in a couple other threads. :)

AGHK! I'm so excited. I want my VitaMix NOW.

We'll be receiving a large sum of money in May, so that's when I am going to splurge and get the 5200 (or whathaveyou).

Now, I don't have a colon, is that going to be a problem? Or will it just sort itself out through the small intestine?

QUESTION: Do you freeze bananas in their skin or outside? Yellow or spotted?

I wait until they are spotted, peel them and put them in a freezer bag.

You don't need a Vita-Mix to make a green smoothie. Any blender will work, you may just need to add more ice and blend longer to get it smooth. And chop veggies more.

Could you explain the logistics of not having the colon? Most digestion actually happens in the small intestine anyways, and the colon does have other lesser uses but mostly just is a storage facility anyways!! I'm just trying to figure out -- did you have surgery, and your small intestine is now attached to your rectum?

I hope I'm not getting too personal. I'm just not sure how to answer without more details. I'm not a doctor anyways, so I can only answer to the best of my understanding! :)

Me too, the only difference is I chop them up into smaller pieces so they blend better. And I use a container, but I hadn't thought of a bag! :)

I freeze them in a container without the skins. I usually put them in the freezer when the skins have some spots on them, so they are nice and sweet. You don't want to freeze them when they are still green because they will taste bitter.

I have a Magic Bullet, will that work?

I have a colectomy due to Ulcerative Colitis when was just about to turn 16. I've had 36 surgeries from 15-19. I'm not healthy and completely healed by the grace of God.

I had an ileostomy (a bag) for years but now I have a j-pouch. It's a mini colon made out of 8-9" of my small intestine and attached to the rectum.

LETS JUST GET IT ALL IN THE OPEN WHY DONT WE (=

I love that you have such a good sense of humor about it. We all have our issues! I am so intrigued by your story! I started raw food because I was plagued with ulcers from a young age too. There is a book by David Klein about healing ulcerative colitis with raw food. It was my mini bible for a short time. Now, no need for any of that.

Anyways, yes a magic bullet is GREAT. Actually, I taught a friend how to make them with one of those just a couple weeks ago. You just start with smaller portions. You might have to blend 3 times to get as much as you would want! But the cool thing is, you can have everything prechopped and ready to blend in their little containers.

Sounds like your new build is just a little different, but I (again, not as a doctor!) can't see why you wouldn't want a green smoothie because of any of that. :)

I freeze 'em w/skins ON. Then to thaw, put into a tall glass with lukewarm water for a few minutes. Then make a slit at the top. The pretty white (not dark brown like peeled frozen bananas get), but the pretty white banana then gets slipped into my smoothie - untouched by human hands...

I usually freeze the whole bunch together and just pluck one off when I need it.

I love my green smoothies with kale, blueberries, apple, and some banana, and water. Make whatever works for you. All I know is you cannot go wrong with them! They are very delicious and nutritious!:D
