I feel guilty. I know the benefit of flax crackers and I so desperately want to like them. Is there anybody out there that does not like them? I overstand there are thousands of recipes and my thinking is there has GOT to be one that I can embrace. I remain hopeful.
Made a batch overnight and I threw cinnamon in the mixture (don't even taste it), and tried 1/2 whole, 1/2 powdered flax. Perhaps it's the strong, fresh garlic that is turning me off. I'll try my next batch sans garlic. I don't even taste the lemon juice (per Ms. Cohen's recipe); so think I'll leave that (plus I love lemon).
Is there possibly something I am missing? I have viewed the You Tubes, and I keep coming here almost daily to learn about flax and it doesn't seem to be rocket science, but I don't want to be one of those folks who can't be told anything. So, on I go with my learning to love flax journey.

Have you tried using ground flax instead of whole? I LOVE them personally...
Oops, saw in your other post that you did half ground, half whole? Try half ground and maybe another ground seed, like sunflower? or half ground flax and half whole sesame? They are something to play around with.
AND, I do make mine thicker and spread 'em..

And remember, there's nothing that says you have to like or eat flax crackers. If you want the benefits of flax seed, you can always grind it up and throw it in your smoothies. Or sprinkle it on a salad or raw pasta dish. Or use flax oil instead of olive oil for salad dressings and recipes.
I can't stand wheatgrass even though I know it's great. I really tried, but just can't do it. People say you have to acquire a taste for it, but I just decided why keep trying to force something down I hated.
Just like some people hate broccoli, even though they know it's good for them. I don't see them worrying that they're missing out on something.
If ya don't like 'em, ya don't like 'em.

I'm not big on flax crackers either, my dd totally will not eat them. However I have come up with the following recipe that has SOME flax in it but is more other stuff ... I call them Pizza Crackers because that is what they taste like to me.
Pizza Crackers
2 C. Sunflower seeds, ground fine
3/4 c. flax, ground fine
2 lb. zucchini squash
4 c. tomatoes, chopped
1/2 medium onion, chopped
8 oz. sundried tomatoes (give or take)
3 cloves garlic
3 medjool dates, chopped (or 6 small dates)
1/4 c. olive oil
2 Tb. Lemon Juice (or ACV)
5 3/4 tsp. salt
1/2 tsp. rosemary
4 TB. Italian Seasoning
Grind seeds and flax, put in bowl. Process all other ingredients until smooth. Combine with seeds and flax. Spread on teflex sheet (4 trays) dehydrate overnight, flip and dry until desired I'm guessing another 24 hours because these are so wet but worth the wait.
This recipe can easily be cut in half to make 2 trays.
Blessings,
Heather

I didn't vote because I'm somewhere in the middle on this one.
The ground flax seeds have a flavor I don't like. I'm not sure how to describe it other than to call it sour or spoiled. The flax bread, banana-flax crackers, and the zuchinni bread, all went to the dog. She loved them.
If there is a mixture of half ground sunflower seeds and half ground flax seeds that is okay. Having a few whole flax seeds in the mix is okay, too.

I thought it was just me! I've hated almost every batch I've made. I did find a recipe that was sweeter with bananas in it (I think from Purely Delicious), and enjoyed that much more. Maybe I'll try the suggestion of using flax oil in salad dressing....

I used to use flax oil and seeds for the omegas, but I found out hemp has a better ratio of 3:6 so I use that instead. Much tastier!!

Ya know, I keep reading about this "powder". I think Ms. Thompson of Frugal Raw, mentioned it as a "super food". K, this sounds doable. Thanks raw runner. :)

Hiya again,
Is this in seed form? I'll Google that up and/or check 'em out at the local Food Co-op to see if they sell 'em. Of course, being the person I am I've got a slew of dark and light flax. I'll try it with the banana as mentioned too.
Thanks ladies for your help.

I've never made my own, but find I don't like most of the pre-made flax crackers that are sold. Usually they taste better with a spread though. There are a couple brands that are light and I like those better. Maybe you can make something similar. Also the spices used makes a difference. Matter Of Flax has some decent ones with matching hummus. May give you some ideas to make your own. The other alternative is a flat bread similar to Love Force's. But definitely don't ever force yourself to eat something you don't like. You can get the benefit of flax seeds by adding them to a smoothie or salad.

Honey chile, thank YOU. I just took out a batch, 1/2 whole, 1/2 ground, cinnamon, honey, lemon juice, Bragg's. Can't stand it either.
Okay, per a suggestion here I've just started another batch; this time:
1/2 whole, 1/2 ground, bananas, water, Bragg's, lemon juice, and cinnamon. I'll try this out tomorrow. If I do not like it, I will use the rest of my flax like you said (and I think another lady). Plus, there's the hemp idea.
Thanks my rawlicious people. I appreciate this. :)

I made my first batch of flax crackers last week and I ate some straight out of the dehydrator and then some the day after and then the following day I felt a bit overloaded and didn't want to eat any. So I didn't eat them for a few days and now I like them again!

Are you using golden flax or brown flax?
I cannot stand anything made with golden flax and was thinking I would never benefit from flax until I tried the brown ones. I didn't think there would be any difference but for me it was a huge difference. I love crackers made with brown flax seeds.

I use hemp oil and hemp protein powder. I haven't bought seeds yet, but i don't think they gel up like flax does. Chia, on the other hand, would probably make great crackers. Maybe mix hemp and chia together? mmm..

I'm not a fan of flax either, though I've added the seeds to breads (not raw). I'm looking for an easy flax recipe right now so I can have a go at the crackers as I'm trying to eat more raw now. You mentioned youtube, so I'll be off there shortly. I hope I like it. I really want to make a raw burger to go with it for the weekend.....
