I have a batch of chickpeas germinating as we speak. Now normaly I just eat these bad boys but I would love to begin sprouting. Problem is I have no clue how to do it. Do I need a special container. I saw one person on this forum with a colander used as a sprout container. Really was beautiful. Now I honeslty jsut don't know . Do I need a glass jar with a cheese cloth on top or can you just through them in a colaner. Do I need water. I'm telling you I"m lost. Help??

You can use anything you have that allows the water to get out and the air to get in.
A piece of cheesecloth or mesh is perfect.
I am using nut milk bags right now.

I just started sprouting too- I bought a sprouting kit (it is a mason jar, the lid is vented and it came with instructions) Like Sport said a nut bag would work wonderfully.
Here is how I sprouted alfalfa sprouts :
I soaked them in the mason jar for 6 hours then rinsed them. I put them in a dark place with the jar on it's side. Every day I rinsed them in the am, in the afternoon and at night making sure to get as much water as I could out of the jar and returned them to the dark place (my kitchen pantry). Alfalfa did not take me long to sprout - on the 3rd day I left the mason jar out in indirect light for 4 hours and then they were ready to eat.
You can look in my blog - there is a pic there of them.

Thanks girls for the advice. Right now I just put them in a colander with a cloth on top because I didn't know what to do. I can't wait to begin now.
Oh my gosh Melissa. They turned out great. What a huge jar you got there. Love it.

I bought some bamboo baskets at Hobby Lobby. the baskets are about 6 to 10 inches in diameter and about 1 to 2 inches high. These work pretty good for me. They have a tendency to mildew, but a soak in hydrogen peroxide works good. I soak the seeds and rinse 2-3 times daily.
