i've been buying 3 or 4 larabars everytime i'm in the hfs. at $2.19 - $2.49 each, it really adds up. so i finally decided to try to make my own. it was so easy and they taste sooooooo good.

all i did...

-10 pitted dates
- 1 cup walnuts
-1/4 cacao
-1/2 banana

process until all mixed up, and then spread on tray and dehydrated at 105 for about 6 hours (flipping halfway)

I bet that tastes better than a larabar!

Costco is selling a 3 flavor 18 pack of larabars for $18. Look in the dried fruit/snack bar aisle.

Wow! I'm so-o going to do this, now that I have my new food processor. Just heading out the door to do some food shopping too. I know my husband will like these as well as I will!

Any idea how long these would last unrefrigerated?

I am going to be traveling for a couple of weeks and am on the hunt for things I can make and carry with me. Do you think this is something I could wrap up in some waxed paper and would stay good for about a week?

Thanks for posting this. This looks way too easy and super tasty too!
I need to put a batch of these in the dehydrator this week!

I love Lara Bars! Here are two other sites that explain homemade bars, with more recipes too. I have yet to try.

Hi! I do dates & walnuts (about equal amounts of each), raw cocoa ground in the coffee grinder, and dried tart cherries. I put the cherries in the food processor last so that they're still sort of chunky, and then I roll the mixture into balls. You know they're processed anough when the mixture will stay together. Roll the balls in more freshly ground cocoa & refrigerate. They last for weeks (if they make it that long!), and no dehydrator required. Friends at work who aren't raw love them.

Do you think this would taste ok with almonds and cashews or just almonds? I'm not the hugest fan of walnuts (the raw ones I had before I didn't really care for). Can you taste the walnut taste in these bars? Sorry for all the questions =) My kids were drooling over the picture and really want to make them, just need to get more cacao online since we ran out and my health food store doesn't carry it. Can you believe a health food store not carrying Cacao!!!

i'm sure almonds and cashews would be great together. those ones i made didn't have a strong walnut'y taste at all. they were more sweet. you could try pecans too!

that's strange the hfs doesn't carry cacao. i would think it would be more in demand.

Tell me about it! I guess people around here just don't know what's good for them.
