all the nuts i see at the HFS if they are salted then they are roasted. so i was going to buy raw cashews and salt them myself.
at first i thought to put them in salt water and let the water evaporate but they might be mushy and not harden back up or they might rot...
so then i thought just rinse them then toss them in salt and let them dry.
any suggestions?

I would say soak them, spice them, and then put them in the dehydrator.

With other nuts like almonds and walnuts, they can be lightly coated in olive or flax oil and then seasoned. Probably works with cashews too.

I squeeze a little lemon juice over my nuts and then season with salt and other spices. I tried using oils and just found it to be too oily tasting for me. The lemon is bitter and actually compliments the sweetness of the nut nicely. I have also done it with apple cider vinegar and that was good too. Hubby thinks that I am weird though. Oh well.

Soaking in salty water then dehydrating, soaking then coating with salt/spices, and just dropping a few drops of water in a bowl with your nuts then adding salt and mixing it up works.

I put the nuts into a container with a lid, splash some olive oil in, several pinches of salt, some spices of choice, sometimes flaked dried tomato or raw stock.
Then close the lid and shake well, place into the dehydrator till the coating is dry.
Yum!
