Red Bananas ?

I saw red bananas in my health food store today and bought a bunch. I've never had any of these before. They feel kind of hard, I'm wondering how I know when they're ripe. Right now they are part green and part reddish brown. Do they get speckled or do they turn a solid color? Thanks.

I've had red bananas lots of times but I can't think of any real earmark for when they're ripe. I would just go by when they feel and smell right to you! Enjoy!

I have a Red Banana Tree, it does not produce Fruit but have never had a Red Banana. I'll put that on My To Do list. I also would presume they are ripe when soft.

I eat them when they are soft like the average banana. They taste kind of tangier than normal bananas, which I love.

I just finished a bunch. They will get soft on the outside as they ripen. I found them a little 'sweeter and richer' than regular bananas. Love them but last trip to the store the selection wasn't good.

I did just try 'baby' bananas from costa rica (thumb sized) and they are great little snacks and can be thrown in a purse.
