HEY, those are soooooo great, I could actually smell the food, LOL

I think we should keep this thread going, with some truly fantastic food pics.

I'l try to find some, as we've been taking tons of food pics, and see if I can post some too.

Anthony, you did such a good job of preparing and presenting the food.
WOW.

rawpriestess
07-24-2005, 06:33 PM
Okay, I found some,

here is Alissa's crepes but with a twist, they are lemon and no strawberry, just banana creps with lemon and macademia/cashew cream filling and topping.

another is the pizza, with the drippy gooey pizza cheese and sun dried tomaotes, and pesto sauce, and pineapple and sundried greek olives, all on a super crispy crust, YUM

Another is the strawberry leather roll ups stuffed with chocolate mint cream.

another is the Enchiladas with guack, pico de gallo and topped with cashew sour cream sauce, yummmmmyyy, trust me they didn't last very long, I think the pic was taken, my bf, his son and the neighbor finished them all off, I had made two whole dehydrator trays full, so this was my share, and the ONLY way I even got one pic. LOL

They loved them.

Anthony, you did such a good job of preparing and presenting the food.
WOW.
Thanks! I've been meaning to try making crepes/fruit leather but when I blenderize fruit it's always fairly runny, and I wonder how well it'd stick on a teflex sheet long enough to firm up.

rawpriestess
07-24-2005, 06:59 PM
Awe, thanks Tracy info, I love preparing foods, and Dragggon is the camera guy.

Hey Anthony,

I just pour the fruit (all blapped up in my Vita Mix) on top of the teflex sheet and slide into the dehydrator, that's it, it seems to firm up the edges pretty quickly, although I've have had one or two blast through to the next level, but that's all good too, just fun weird blobs for the kids to eat (my grandkids) that is.

Try it, you have an affinity for making good food, once your try the leahters, it is sooooo easy to wrap them around other fruits, or stuff them, or whatever.

I also dehydrate to super crispy, and then break them into smallish, about 4" by 4" shapes, and stich them as a garnish out of banana ice cream, then they are kind of like a cookie thingy, like the old Farells used to have.

keep posting those pics, yummmmmmm.

I've been lusting for those strawberry crepes for some time, RVM! I recently bought nori sheets for the first time, and they seem awfully brittle. Any tricks for rolling them successfully? Also, where do you get your raw cacao?

Ginger
07-24-2005, 07:34 PM
Actually they don't look as good, but the tangerine-strawberry ones are my favorite, i'd be happy eating just the sauce!
http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v337/RVMsSanctuary/FooD/0may2005184.jpg

I get my cacao from Nature's First Law.

Do you have a roller mat for your nori?

Chocolate covered strawberries (with raw cacao)-- the strawberries are out of our garden.

Yummy chakra salad (I call it this because of all the colors) everything in this salad is from our gardens

WOW, what beautiful pics.

Dragggon says, "When is dinner time?"

I love the color of that tangerine/strawberry crepe thingy, do you use 1/2 strawberreis and 1/2 tangerines? and then some honey/dates to sweeten, it does sound super yummy.

The spanish rice looks super good too.

I'm hungry, I'm off the the kitchen to make SOMETHING, anything now.

LOL, keep those pics coming, I love to look at them.

Again, WOW.

Ginger

I used the caccao nibs, and ground them in a coffee grinder as my Vita Mix was busy with something else at that moment (not sure what, as it was a dinner party), and I used some coconut oil (I think that is what made it so dark and rich looking) and some raisins for sweetener, (again it made it dark) and some cinnamon, and a dash of salt.

YES, I want more picx too.

I love to see what others are doing with their food.

YEP, I often use raisins to make something kind of fudgy texture and look, try it, let me know how you like it.

It is especially good in my favorite jam

Exploding Raspberry jam

1 cup raspberries
1 cup dark rasins

blap up in Vita Mix, or food processor,
store in fridge, for at least one hour,

serve, this is the best jam in the world, or as a crepe topping or stuffing, or on top if banana ice cream, or whatever, it is to live for, my very favorite quick and easy recipe.

I was trying to make a cheese cake and we needed some fruit, but we didn't have any strawberries, and I had used all of my bananas and dates in the cheesecake part, so had to improvise fast.

I came up with this jam to top off the cheesecake.

You simply MUST try it.

OKAY Sweetgoddess, (I'm calling youuuuuoooooououoou ...--***(((~~~~)

******** I do have a painting of some garlic, I went to a street fair, called the "garlic festival" years ago, and you had to have at least ONE item pertaining to garlic to vend, so I painted a picture of some garlic***** but that's about it on the food paintings, I like to paint beautiful women mostly ********

Here are some pics that we just took of some of the raw food that we always have, because they are my favorites.

Pesto stuffed mushrooms, with fresh herbs, and honey corn bread

My famous Creamy corn chowder, with massive amount of fresh mushrooms, corn, red pepper, and yellow squash mmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm, I eat this almost every day, oh, it's made with almond milk. yuummmm

Alissa's pizza wraps with tons more herbs and spices and sun dried tomaotes, made into tortilla sized rounds, with pesto stuffed mushrooms on the side. I usually top these pizza wraps with lettuce, tomatoes, white onions, and cashew sour cream with hot pico de gallo sauce, and fesh cilantro. mmmmm

And last but not least the barley burger patties, that I LOVE so much, with fresh herbs, pesto stuffed mushrooms, and fresh warm honey corn bread.

RP, isn’t this very similar to Alissa's food. it looks like her recipes with a twist and it looks like you use this site for advertisement purposes. Hate to be a negative voice in this thread but it just erks me when someone takes credit from others and the way you keep promoting yourself on Alissa's boards.. Well, you should be paying her for advertisement. Im surprised she hasnt addressed this. is anyone else annoyed by this?

Hey Sweetgoddess,

so glad you "heard" me.

YES, those herbs are from boyfriendss garden, he grows so many delicious herbs and such.

I had white onion stalks, parsley, Basil and Sicilian Oregano,(not to be confused with the Greek or Italian Oregano he grows) LOL, he loves to grow things.

We have 11 gardens and a grape arbor, not counting all the fruit and nut trees.

WOW, that seems like a lot, so I just drew out our landscaping, and yes, except for house, and driveway, and deck that is how many gardens that we have (this year), LOL

And each one is very specific to growing something special.

Autumn

<<Every post is a promotion!>>

Veg-one and Rawdelight, and Podol and Victoria and Vicky and on and on...

How is posting pictures of one's food a promotion? Why are Rawpriestess' pics promotional and Anthony and VeganMom's not? What is the difference? Where is the promotional aspect? They made some food, took a pic, and posted it. Does Anthony own the rights to blueberry smoothie? Does someone own the rights to chocolate cake, raw or cooked? Variation is what *makes* a recipe different from another one. But I digress. Lots of people like to look at other's pics of their food. It is motivational. What is your motivation for being so confrontational?

rawpriestess
07-25-2005, 05:39 PM
UHMMM, gulp, I don't know what to say, but they ARE Alissa's foods, with a few additonal ingredients, I never said they were mine, except the corn chowder.

In fact I specifically, Didn't use my own concoctions, so that I wouldnt' be promoting myself.

If you actually read my posts, you will see that I say they are Alissa's recipes.
************************************************** ****

And exactly how am I promoting myself. I simply posted a few pics to show that I also make raw food that looks good like others.

Ohhh, do you mean my signature line?

Well, like many other people here, I do have a website, and I do sell the things I love to make money for myself. Some have raw retreats, and they have it on their signature line, others are travel agents, others are photographers, others, well, you get the picture.

I used to keep a very detailed journal, and many people would ask me for my recipes, which I gladly posted on this board for free.

Then my agent said, I couldn't post anything for free anymore.

I've taken classes from many raw food chefs, and I've been a catering chef, for over 30 years, raw for 4 years, so I do have some ideas on food that I love to share.

I don't know why you feel this way, but I am sorry that you do.

I wish you nothing but joy in your life, and I am sorry if somehow, I have caused you to choose to feel annoyed.

But I am not going to change who I am or what I do to accomodate your personal beliefs.

Simply put me on your "ignore" list, and then you won't have to look at my posts any more, and then you can be happy.

Tracyinfo, I sent you a PM.

many of the ones I posted are Alissa's recipes, I feel that way we honor her in this board, the one that was mine is my famous corn chowder.

I do admit to tweeking her recipes a bit, as I like alot of spice in mine, and I do add more sundried tomatoes to the pizza wraps and the burgers.

The burgers that I make are her "meatloaf" recipe, that I have mentioned several times in posts, I simply make them in to burger shapes.

the pesto stuffed mushrooms are hers, the lemon crepes are hers, minus the strawberry sauce, and with tons of lemon in the cream filling.and topping.

The chakra salad is mine, and the pizza is mine.

My crust, and gooey pizza cheese, pesto sauce, and sun dried tomato recipe.

Oh, and the corn bread started out as Alissa's, but I changed it quite a bit, although her recipes are always excellent.

As I said, I like alot of spice in my recipes.

I just had a wonderful snack after having made the Exploding Raspberry Jam that Rawpriestess posted in this thread! I also made Alissa's Cream Cheese and layered the cream cheese and jam on Alissa's Banana Flax Crackers (I always add lots of cinnamon) and this time also added blueberries to the crackers.

Wow, that a taste treat! And thank you Rawpriestess for posting this recipe, one of my new favorites!

That marinated "steak" does look delicious. Too bad I don't like mushrooms, though :(

I wonder if anything else (non-mushroom) could be substituted for the mushrooms in that recipe that might have the same or similar texture as the portabellas. I made that once for my husband and he really enjoyed it. I couldn't bring myself to eat it, though because I have this "thing" about shrooms!

Rawkinlocs.

I used to make a grilled mushrooms and zucchini thing, that was very good, you might try marinating zucchini or other squash, and then dehydrating for a little while to get it warm, I think that could be good, especially if using the sweeter young squash.

I wouldn't try yams, or parsnips or any of those, as they are not porous enough to marinate, but I think the squash would work really well.

I also marinate onion, and that is super delicious, so maybe a sweet white, or walla walla sweet, you should be able to find them, now that you are up here.

Hope this works for you.

Wowowowo! I am blown away by how good these dishes look! I just ordered my saladacco spiral slicer so hopefully I can get cracking on some of these dishes.
I'm waiting to get Alyssa's book until the dehydrator arrives as I'll want to start making things right away.
Do you find that these dishes are by and large very time-intensive to make?

Can't wait!

don't wait for your dehydrator to get Alissa's book, she has tons on recipes that don't use a dehydrator.

And as far as time intensive goes, it really depends on the recipe and what YOU think is alot of time.

As for me, who used to make my own hamburger, this is nothing.

I used to make home made everything, even bottled my own ketchup when I was 19, (by cracky) LOl
anyway, I love to prepare food, so I love spending time in the kitchen.

The meatloaf that I make into burgers, that is one of Alissa's recipes, I just add some more spice and sundried tomatoes (I make those too), (I even make my owns dried herbs and spices) doesn't take that long, you just toss everything into your food processor, and mix, then spread on a teflex sheet, and dehydrate. I then freeze the burger patties for use later.

The corn chowder, which is my recipe, you just make almond cream, which is thick almond milk, as some veggies, and that's it. I do warm mine up to finger warm.

The salalds take alot of hand chopping, although if you don't care how they look, you could probably just slice them with a salad shooter, or mandoline and they would be faster to make.

The pizza wraps, are Alissa's with a bit of tweeking, basically you blend stuff in the food processor then spread on a teflex sheet then dehydrate.

The pesto stuffed mushrooms are to die for, these Are Alissa's and you make pesto, only 4 ingredients in the food processor, glop into a mushroom, then dehydrate.

Pretty much the recipes I like are dehydrated, but not all are.

There are puddings, and ice creams, and sauces, and cashew sour cream, and guackamole (I don't like avocadoes but everyone else seems to), there are stuffed portabello's and all kinds of wonderful things.

Allisa's book has been my raw food bible around her for over a year now. Ever since I bought it.

Anyway, there are lots of great recipes in her book, I simply love them.

Hopefully, some of the other people who made all these great raw recipes, will let you know of their experiences with the recipes.

Just like everything, some are easy and quick and some take quite a bit of time and are not so easy, but are sure worth it in the long run.

I'm finding that the amount of time things take varies a lot. The potato chips took a bunch of time, slicing, marinating, carefully arraying them on the sheets, laboriously flipping them. I made flax crackers last night, and they didn't take much hands-on time. I soaked the seeds in water for a few hours and they gooped right up. I mixed in some onion, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds then spread it on trays. After 2-3 hours they were read to flip, and got another 2 hours or so. I made these really thin. Next time I'll go a bit thicker, and they'll likely take longer but be less fragile. I also hope to have my juicer soon, so I'll have veggie pulp to add in.

I'm taking these to a potluck this weekend and have tentative plans to top them with pesto, slivers of tomato and avocado, and spiralized beet.

Before flipping. The smaller one dried faster, as expected. Next time I'll wait longer before flipping -- even when dry on top, they were still fairly goopy below and left a lot of seeds on the sheet.

As for how much time does it take to make my food, I think it takes a little longer when you are making stuff for the first time but then after you get a feel for it it gets much quicker! I really don't feel like I spend that much time "cooking" at all.

:) Anchor Hocking? I looked around for jars I liked and found the square ones at Linens-n-Things. Bed Bath & Beyond had some similar ones with a metal tag frame glued on, which I didn't care for. I liked these so much I ordered a bunch more from them online, and got two of these jars (I'm an engineer - I always provision a spare ;) ) just for storing crackers.

Members,

I'd like to request that you be mindful of your picture sizes. Not only do extremely large photos take a long time to load, but photos also take up a LOT of space and bandwidth on a server and remember, Alissa is paying to keep this site up and running.

Anthony, I realize yours were on a different server and not directly uploaded, but they still take a very long time to load and kinda distort the thread making readers have to scroll over, etc. I resized the veggies chip and sprout photos and uploaded them with the "Manage Attachments" feature 'cause they were HUUUUGE!!

I love the photos and seeing your creativity, but just ask that you not upload very large photos. If you don't know how to resize images or don't have a program that can handle the job such as Photoshop, etc., then maybe a couple of people here would like to voluteer to resize images for those who cannot (?)

Thanks!

I figured folks by and large weren't using dialup connections and cell phones to view the site, but I'll make the links be to smaller yet resizes henceforth.

Huge is relative, I guess. I would have happily have editted the links in my own post to make them display smaller had I been asked.

I'll continue to not do so.

I have that ability, thanks.

It seems as though you took offense to my post and resizing your photos. I didn't mean to offend you, but since you weren't logged on when I viewed your photos, I did it, not to spite you but out of my own discretion.

I mean, you say huge is relative...when I editted your photo, the pixel size was 1600x1200! That's pretty large.

I also asked for volunteers to resize images not for you, personally, but for anyone else (seeing that you aren't the only one posting photos in this thread) who may not have that ability. It wasn't directed at you, though I can see how you may have felt that way and again, I'm sorry if I offended you. One never knows who has what abilities, so it was just a suggestion for anyone who needed it.

But at any rate, thank you for agreeing to comply with photo sizes.

I like how you've tweaked her recipes to suit your taste; that's the beauty of cooking, I mean unCooking!
It's a good way to show newbies to personalize their dishes..
although Alissa's recipes are excellant the way they are,
but everyone has personal tastes...like I love garlic and always add morel.

Hi Punky,

I pm'd you.

And YES, I add tons more spice, as that is how I like things, I think the beauty of raw foods, is you don't have to wait until something is cooked to taste it to see if you like it.

You just mix it all up. take a bite, add more spice, taste again, add a little this, a little that, and mix again, and there you have a perfect meal for YOU.

Each person is so different, and as I get more and more into raw, I notice how much less salt I want, I used to eat about 10 green olives in a sitting about 3 times a day, went through lots of them, now I can't even eat one, wayyyyyy too salty, so went to raw black ones, kalamatas' and now they are too salty, so I have to soak them before I can eat them.

Everyday my tastes get more and more refined.

I don't add salt to anything now. I would never have even noticed this until someone had my try a recipe they made and I thought it was way salty, when no one else did.

I have been noticing that I want raisins lately, where I only ate a handful in my whole life before. Never much cared for them, now I love them.

I used to love canned fruit (not even close to raw-when I was cooked) the last time I had a piece, I could instantly tell, because it tasted like a tin can to me.

No one else noticed this, (this was at a raw potluck too).

So, I realize that as my raw-ness continues and I get more and more raw, my tastes continue to change, and improve I might add. as I am eating things like mangos that I never liked before.

HUMMMM, maybe there is hope for me and those avocadoes yet (not) but we'll see :o)

Ok, fudge pops well, I usually don't measure when making this but for a large batch I would try these amounts....

RAW FUDGE POPS
in a bowl combine:

coconut oil - about 1 cup

cacao powder (or carob) - 1/2 to 3/4 cup

agava to taste - a lot...ha, ha, we use a lot

vanilla to taste (optional) - about1 to2 teaspoons

-pour into mold
-set popsticks in place
-place flat in the freezer till solid...about a few hours

Thanks for helping out with my picture! Much appreciated.

FUDGE POPS sorry typo there.

forgot to mention, you will have extra after filling the mold if your just filling 1 anyway, so just pour the rest into a glass dish of somesort and making sure that to is flat just put that in the freezer. When the one in the glass dish is frozen I then use a butter knife and "chisel" chunks from it.

ENJOY!!!

ok, well, the stir-dry idea as rawkinlocs calls it, came from her with a soy sauce tasting sauce, but I dont care for soy sauce flavor, so I had to come up with a sauce.
I just prepped the veggies I thought everyone would eat. This one had broccoli, red peppers, cabbage, carrots, snow peas, celery, sweet onion. Then I made a sauce of Bragg's ( use Nama Shoyu if you prefer), raw sesame oil ( use whatever raw oil you want), the juice of 2 oranges, ground ginger, ground garlic, ground onion powder and honey. Whisked and poured over veggies, mixing them well with my hands.
Then I put in the dehydrator for an hour or 2, because it softens them a little to be just like stir-fry,and I stirred occasionally.

The "rice" is parsnips, pine nuts and garlic whizzed in the food processor until it resembles rice. I believe this came from Alex, the Raw Guru?
I put this in the dehydrator also to soften a little bit. ( you can use cauliflower also I am sure, or even jicama)

To assemble, put a mound of rice on a plate, top with a big scoop of stir-unfry and be sure to pour some of that sauce over it so it soaks into the "rice" Now that is YUM! Garnish with sliced raw almonds, orange slices and basil leaves.

The shish kebobs were mushrooms, onions, red and green peppers, marinated in Bragg's, threaded onto a skewer and popped into the dehydrator for half an hour.

yum wish I had leftovers.....shouldnt have offered them seconds, haha! ;)

Ya they do have to be kept in the freezer, but....we never have any pops to put back into the freezer. The fudge in the dish has to be kept there too.

And ya any other things that you'd like to use for flavor would work great, we have done the pepermint, almond bits, goji berries and cherry pieces.

Thank you so much for that recipe. Question, do you use parsnips in the rice? Or just pine nuts?

classic waldorfe salad uses mayonaise as a base, so you could use any raw mayo recipe, but I like it with just a touch of sweetness, so I make a cashew cream to go on top,

I take about 1 cup of soaked cashews, and maybe 2 dates, soaked and pitted and a 1/2 cup of water, maybe a Tablespoon of lemon juice and blend. dash of salt or not,

basically, I just toss stuff in the blender until it tastes good. LOL

For me presentation is 75% of the experience when it comes to eating.

Thank you all for such lovely pics. Showed hubby other pics yesterday and he definately says he can eat raw often, though not committing to 100%.

If I can figure out how to get some fava beans and sprout hem and then make a foul sandwhich I think he'll be in heaven. Hubby is from Egypt, growing up Fava beans were a staple.

Chocolate walnut ice cream.
This is made from frozen bananas. I love experimenting with all different things to add to the banana.
