I have never fasted before and I think my body is telling me I'm due for one.
I'm not quite sure if I should do a 7 day WATER fast or JUICE fast. How does one determine this?
Can someone direct me in the right direction.
Thanks.

Hello Moretta,
I've never done a water fast so I can't speak on that but juice fasts are amazing!
The first 3 days are the hardest because you are not only detoxing from caffeine and sugar (if you've been having that) you're also breaking the habit of actually putting something in your mouth and chewing.
Once you get past that, there is this amazing feeling of calmness, serenity and not to mention the energy you have. Here's a good article from a journalist who documented her 14 day juice fast. It might help you get prepared.

Hope this helps!

I would do a Juice Fast first, and if you like it, you can go directly into a Water Fast. Make sure you get as much rest as possible during the first days.

I've read different articles that suggest a combination of both forms of fasting. If I were you, I would do the first three days on diluted juice and then go into a mostly water fast. Just listen to your body and it will tell what you should do. :)

I did alot of reading on fasting...
I've done several fasts, but the longest I've done have been 10 day 100% water fasts...
Once I did a 10 day 100% water fast (nothing but pure distilled water - no food) and then I went 23 more days with Juices. By day 30 I felt the best I have EVER felt in my life!!!! (even now)
But I recommend alot of reading and understanding, many do not recommend fasting. I would go to say this.... I do not recommend fasting unless you have read and studied the subject.
Your knowledge, your body, your results, will guide you.... You learn all this from the books you'll read... Your body will guide you as you listen to it.
Fasting is powerful but likewise if you've not done your homework it can backfire and cause an unpleasent experience.
I plan to do another long fast in the spring/summer. Fasting in winter has one big draw back...you get very cold... and in the middle of winter that can be more burdensome, especially while I am typing this we have snow on the ground and 19 degrees!

I agree that knowledge is power especially when fasting. Reading articles and many of the threads here are a great start. You can also join us in the fasting thread... you have lots of fasters there who can assist and support you.

Since you are new to fasting, I recommend a juice fast. Why? Because IF you cheat on a juice fast it doesn't harm your body nearly as much as it will on a water fast. I don't recommend a water fast until you are a more experienced faster - it's a more difficult detox and it's harder to do. So start with a yummy juice fast and enjoy the flavours of your juice. Drink as much as you want, don't limit yourself at all. Fruit juices, green juices... whatever you want. Personally I'm not fond of green juices so instead I do wheatgrass shots, chlorella and spirulina and just do fruit juices.
