I'm planning a trip to Maui this coming August. I'm super excited!
I keep hearing how expensive food is in Hawaii. Is that true for locally grown food?
Anyone here live in Maui?
Please help me decide if going to Kaui is worth the expense.
Thank you!

I haven't been to Maui but I have been to Kauai. There is a raw vegan restaurant in Kauai called "Blossoming Lotus". This restaurant is the best one I have gone to, probably because there ingredients were so fresh. There is also a place that sells frozen raw banana icecream. Also, there are 2 roadside locations that sell raw food in Kauai. There is a farmers market everyday in some location on Kauai. Kauai is a small island so it was easy to travel to the farmers markets. As you can tell, I had no problem eating on Kauai.
As far as Maui goes, I would encourage you to research it. YOu might be surprised what you find.
I also heard there is a raw food community in the big island of Hawaii called "Pangea".
Have a wonderful vacation! :)

Try emailing maui_butterfly or starfire. There are a few posters here who live on various HI islands. Maybe they will see your post. :)

It's been ages since I've been to Hawaii and I definitely was not into raw foods when I went, but I visited several islands and what I remember most about the experience was that the water there was divine and every morning eating fresh guava, papaya, mango, pineapple and coconut.
How I envy you! Have a great time. :D:D
