Hi everyone, I have been lurking on this site for a while now.
I am 34 years old guy who lacks energy. My weight is perfect I think, I am in great shape, I eat pretty well (not raw) but I still lack energy.
I am very interested in the raw food life style but one does not embark on such an adventure without doing is homework first right? Especially when no one around me even know what raw food is.
Well I have done some research and don't know what to think anymore. I am not here to say that this diet is not a good idea or anything like that. My question is : How did you overcome your doubts? Because on the internet its easy to find articles like this one:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Raw_foodism
that lists pros and cons. How do you know who to trust?
Thank you very much
Pierre

First off. Welcome!
As far as doubts go? Well, when I started to heal after many, many years (see my testimony below), I had no doubt. But then again, I was at my wit's end. I was sooooooo sick and was ready to leave this circle of life called Earth. I figured what could I lose? Plus I read and read and read and STILL read and having done this Raw food lifestyle for going on three years now, I definitely have no doubts.
You have to trust yourself. Trust what is right for you and your body. Our bodies are amazing machines. They heal quickly. They forgive quickly. They rejuvenate quickly.
Doubting is natural. Doubting the unknown. But once you heal and have the energy that WILL come eating this way, there will be no more doubts.
Read what the Raw food pioneers have to say. This is how humankind was intended to eat. Thus the Earth provides for us. It's our stupidity and playing god, creator, higher being or whatever label you wanna call it that got us into this horrid, obese, sick condition we are in and creating upcoming generations of sick people.
Like Revvell says, trust the process.

By reading reading and reading some more about
this beautiful lifestyle and by trying it out on
your own body :) The results are amazing.
How do you know who to trust?
Thank you very much

ah, that's easy: do always trust your own inner voice.
Have fun,

You overcome doubt by simply trying it out and seeing for yourself.
And yes, you are the person to trust. You are your own guru.
Welcome. :)

Especially when no one around me even know what raw food is.
Actually, people do if they'll think about it and use their intelligence but, they wont. Raw = uncooked; food = what nature made for us to eat.
How did you overcome your doubts? How do you know who to trust?
Thank you very much

Trust your own intelligence. Food that's cooked, bottled, packaged and canned has been heated to kill all nutrients and enzymes. Raw food hasn't. Many people think simple doesn't work.. it really does. Eating raw, living food just makes sense. That's it!

Well i am one those with the low energy problem. Raw food is the only diet that has worked for me in term of energy. I am past fourty and has been nursing my child for three years and work full time. If i managed to do this, i can only grant the raw food especially the greens.
As for your doubt, i don't blame you and you should do your research. Why don't you have a plan to focus on your health and do small step to improve something. First eliminate from your diet that you know for sure is bad news and armful, if you aren't ready to let go certain cook food, make sure this is at least organic and as fresh as possible. Add some good stuff in your diet, such green smoothies. As you go along and do more research and want to give a try. If you do any junk food or fast food, this is the first place to start eliminating or at least replacing by something you know that don't contain armful substance such aspartam, msg, etc... Sometime improving our health is about what we leave out
Fatigue could be cause by so many thing, one thing to look at is your hormone. If something isn't right with the hormone, then look for any mineral deficiency or vitamin.
If your skin isn't clear, you probably has yeast or something going on in your guts.
Our body if it cannot eliminate the toxine from the gut, will use the skin or other way from the body.
NOW i will promote for you the raw food or at least to eat in a way to use as less energy as possible while digesting.
Raw food are so easy to digest, wich lead to more energy for your body to repair itselves.
You can have your mineral tested If you are deficient of any, only consume angstrom size mineral (they are plant size and our body can use that). Just google.
Why don't you watch Alissa's dvd? She shares great way to preparre raw food.
Best wishes

I'm one of "those" people who jumped in without doing research.. I figured I had abused my body enough with all the crap I was eating, how bad could eating healthy food the way nature gives it to us be? I went raw for 30 days as a trial.. didn't know if it would work.. didn't know it would change my life.. it did. How I feel now is all the proof I need.. I feel SO good now.. I have energy (almost too much sometimes).. and I have that happy feeling I used to get a long time ago that I haven't felt in years. I have that back and that's all the proof I need.. :D Good luck to you.. I would suggest trying it for 30 days.. if after 30 days you feel better then you have your proof.. :):)

This is an interesting little article I read the other day on the pros and cons...
http://www.vegsource.com/harris/raw_vs_cooked.htm
but then again, it might confuse you even more, lol.
I looked at the wiki page, which I have read before, the criticisms are mainly 'food poisoning' -we stand a greater chance of that not cooking our food. True I guess, though it does refer to raw meat and dairy in particular. As for the occasional raw veggie food contaminant, I don't think it's porportionately larger than cooked food poison warnings...oh, lol, and let's not forget that the SAD diet itself is a slow poison.
Next criticism was Nutritional deficiencies, easily solved by eating a Variety of foods, no matter what diet you are on. Eat all the colours, eat seeds, everyone should take a b12 supplement anyway...and you'll be fine. The 'bioavailability' of certain nutrients, like lycopene in cooked tomatoes for example, is Easily countered by eating raw foods...one slice of watermelon I think has more than quadruple the lycopene than cooked tomatoes, all the red foods have lycopene. ...although my stats are going on memory. There are Loads of examples to counteract any bioavailability arguments to the point that it just becomes a silly argument.
and the last criticism of 'human evolution' is a Theory, which in the same paragraph makes a very good defense argument.
So like I just did, dissect your doubts. Then research the needed questions untill you're satisfied.
...and like everyone else suggested, you can't ignore trying a test run and see how you feel. Be sure to include lots of greens!

The best way is to earnestly do your research, be as unbiased as possible, and know that the conclusions that you come to are based on the best information you could have possibly gathered.

I'd like to suggest focusing your research on how to get a well balanced raw diet for a man your age and then, do it. Will you still have any doubts in 30 days....? Probably not. :)
