I just found something on the internet from a well known raw food author saying that if she was a man, she would add hemp protein powder to a drink. I have been searching all over trying to find out if it is not safe for women to consume hemp protein powder. Can anyone tell me if it is okay for women to use hemp protein powder and if not, why you would not want to?
Thanks!

There's nothing negative I've ever heard about hemp. Just make sure it's raw and organic.

It is 100% safe and I can't imagine how it could possibly be "unsafe for women" or where this person gets her information. I eat about 30-40 grams hemp protein a day and I'm completely fine, in fact I feel much better since adding it into my diet.

There's no evidence to suggest that men need more protein than women. Many women use hemp protein safely, though personally I think it's better for all genders to get their protein from whole foods, such as whole hemp seeds and spirulina and green vegetables, than from an extract.

I have been eating them for age, lol.... The are wonderful source of ommega 3 and so much great nutrient. I used them for my daughter smoothie as well.
Perhaps there is something good for men in them, not sure.
Tomato are great for prevention for prostate cancer and it is a food also for woman.

Maybe she didn't mean that it was unsafe for women. Perhaps she just chooses to get her fats from other sources. Hemp seed is a very high fat, high energy food. Men are generally bigger, have more muscle and can eat more food than the average woman. (Please don't beat me up about that last statement, I did say average woman. ;))

No one should be upset by that. Women's bodies were made to hold fat, while men's bodies were meant to burn off fat.
That is why for centuries on end the daily topic of women will be on why she can't lose weight. Our bodies were meant to keep fat on us as long as possible in order to be as fertile by allowing us to have menses and to be pregnant.

If you're talking about hemp SEED, then yes it is a very high fat food. However this person is talking about hemp protein powder which is mostly protein, fiber and very little fat. Women who want to maintain and build lean body mass may find it very useful. A woman can lose body fat and increase LBM through regular strength training and sufficent (not excess) protein intake. I don't think that women should be boxed into the stereotype of "soft and weak just waiting to get pregnant" while men get to be "lean and athletic". That doesn't work for me.

I so-o agree with you on all counts here! Hemp protein powder is excellent for exactly the reasons you give(I've been using a for nearly a year in my smoothies myself and love it, along with the chia seeds). And yes, women can and do maintain/build muscle mass and lose bodyfat all the time by the very means you describe, myself included! This is why I am slim and trim at age 61 and a half, instead of weak, lethargic, blobby, etc. the way most women are by this stage of the game. Granted, if we do nothing whatsoever, we do put on fat, especially at menopause and beyond, no kidding about it, and lose muscle too. Bottom-line once again, do the raw with plenty of greens, etc. and hit the gym hard! A woman has a lot more power than she thinks she has to turn her body around!

Nutiva hemp protein, it tastes so good, I would eat it if it was bad for me.
Im paranoid they have added something in it it tastes so good, but the ingredients only has hemp seeds, but who knows?
Mike Adams from naturalnews also reviewed on the 14th january, so a few days ago, and also agreed it tasted amazing, no other hemp protein tastes like it. you could literally eat the whole cannister in one sitting, thats how nice it is.

cara4art, You are the perfect example/inspiration of how I hope to be when I'm 61; a fit, strong, kickbutt woman!!:D I agree, women have a lot more power than we are told or realize.;)
