I am wondering if there is ever a time when it would be "too late" to be raw and pregnant. I was raw for a very long time, then fell off the raw wagon I guess you could say, then became pregnant and just fell into massive SAD cravings. I am 30 weeks pregnant. Is this harmful to the baby if I transitioned slowly? Thanks!:D

Hi Soulshine,

It's never too late! I like you, fell off the raw wagon when I got morning sickness. I felt as though I needed to eat bread, pasta, rice, potatoes.... I couldn't stomach my typical raw foods. Since entering my second trimester my nausea and raw food aversions went away! I am back on green smoothies, fruit, salads, gourmet raw, yippie!! I am still including the occasional cooked vegan meal as I don't know how strict I want to be before delivery and with my young one.

Let me tell you lots of the pregnancy symptoms I had went away once I was back on mostly raw. Heart burn I've found to be caused by poor food choices. Constipation is non existent for a raw foodie! I do still have congestion (though not as bad), nose bleeds, and a need for lots of sleep!

Anyways, transition slowly, be easy on yourself. Every healthy meal you choose is a healthy meal for your baby!

I felt called to transition to raw at the start of my second trimester. I'd never been raw before (other than some dabbling with the idea) and had been eating lots of not-so-great foods for months prior. My goal was to start with 50% raw so I could go gentle on detox for the baby's sake, but what I found was that it was natural and easy for me to jump straight to high raw (80+). And I've felt much, much better - not a lot of strong/uncomfortable detox at all.

I think the important thing is listening to your body and your baby, and not pushing if something doesn't feel right. I'm a strong believer in intuitive eating. Keep checking in with yourself and with baby, and listen more to what you feel is right for you than what anyone else thinks you should do! :)

DITTO to Rawsun. I could've written that. At the beginning of my second trimester I was called back to raw and every day it's more and more. If it's not raw it's nearly 99% vegan. Lots of brown rice, kale salad, green smoothies, fruit salad, dates, avocadoes, and raw desserts. I snack on lara bars.

My digestion is much better, less need to chug water all day, no constipation. But I am also still congested (I started the neti pot daily to help) and still need extra sleep. I think the sleep is inevitable, I mean my body is busy and I'm raising twins!

Sometimes I just ask myself for one raw meal a day, other times it's raw till dinner and now and then it's an all raw day.

Enjoy transitioning back. By the way, I'm 26 weeks along.

Me too! I love reading all these responses because this is exactly what happened to me. I'm at 20 weeks now and called back to raw (finally!). Admittedly I was more high raw (about 80-90% on any given day) than 100% raw even when I conceived, but at my lowest I was down to 30% raw a day, although most days I was about 50%. I'm really happy to be getting back though. I kind of have gone back to raw overnight, but since I had been raw for a long time before I don't think there is too much to detox. Its funny, when I was eating cheese (still in small amounts) not too long ago, my skin would immediately break out the next day anyway, so detox was happening either way. At least now baby isn't having to deal with yucky cheese and pasta detox! I'm already feeling better after 1 day 100% raw.

What is everyone else's updates?
