I was speaking to a very wise man today and he told me that losing weight is the greatest consequence of being a raw foodist- the health and vibrance of the individual are the greatest and only positive aspects.
I like this approach, but it makes me fear for what I will do when I lose all of the weight.

I am curious why you would fear that. I think it's nothing but exciting! :D

How could losing the weight be the consequence. I don't understand?
Why would he say this?

Are you afraid you won't stop losing weight? I'm sure that once you lose all the weight, you'll figure out how to maintain your weight. Alissa maintains her weight on a raw food diet. She doesn't look all emaciated. Is this man you talked to a raw foodist and does he have a hard time maintaining his weight?

Maybe he is afraid that he will look really slim, get an inflated ego and go buy a thong Speedo in order to pick up chicks at the beach :D

Losing weight is not necessarily a good thing. Our culture is very focused on that...lose 30 lbs in 30 days....wear clothes you wore in high school.....etc. While it is unhealthy to carry extra weight that causes health problems like diabetes, heart conditions, etc, there are more important things in life than being thin. Some people can lose too much weight on the raw diet, depending on what they eat (granted, this is true with any diet).
Just my 2 cents...

^^ Yes, rapid weight gain and loss. The popular yo-yo dieting can cause risk of stroke & heart attack. I believe it's what happened with Luther Vandross. He would lose massive amounts of weight (100's of lbs) on liquid diets and then gain it all back. I believe he did this several times. Anyway, not completely on the subject, but just wanted to echo the sentiment that the focus solely on weight loss is not necessarily healthy. There are other components.
I do think the raw food lifestyle; however, is one of the keys to optimal health - emotionally, mentally and physically. You no longer have to worry or think of "weight loss" in the same terms. Your body takes care of itself and finds its true weight eventually.
I also think it's a consequence....I like this way of putting it. Rings very true for me personally. My positive health and outlook on life supercedes the weight loss. Although, it was nice to release the weight also. :)

Wow, do I wish losing weight was a consequence to eating mainly raw foods. I love to eat so have to workout so hard. For me it would be the blessing, if I wanted and could eat anything and everything that crosses my eyes or nose and then mouth.
I just finished making onion bread and loved it along with a pizza crust. Yes, to the gym I go later doing turbo kickbox.
Everyone, enjoy your journey for whatever reason you are on it.
UPDATE:
Now I see buckwheat has tons of carbs so have to figure out replacement for the buckwheat or the bread. See not pleased until I have my "cake and eat it too." For me, low carbs is my goal.

The man may be wise, but his comment doesn't make him sound so to me.

By consequence he means if you were to take all of the outcomes of being on a raw food diet and had to separate them to positives and negatives, weight loss would be the only potential negative (which is good).
I can see a clear, defined intellectual and emotional difference since being raw. It has only been 37 days but a life changing 37 days. My entire family has let me know multiple times how much more relaxed I seem. I use to get in fights with teachers (not physical haha) but now I just let things pass and go over me without getting worked up over it. The clarity of thought- everything

Ah, I see... I obviously didn't understand what you meant by consequence.
Glad that it's working so well for you! I love the clarity and peacefulness - for me, that's been more important than losing weight. But I'm confused - if you've found such benefits on the emotional/mental plane, why are you scared of what happens after you lose weight?

A consequence can be positive or negative depending upon the person, but sometimes weight loss isn't easily achievable by everyone.

Or maybe he meant, You are a raw foodist, you will lose weight, but the inner life, vibrance and health matter most. So you lose weight, then what? After awhile it will grow normal for you, and the high of losing it will be gone then what? What about the inner world, soul, etc maybe.??? If that is the case, I agree with him. hehe If thats what he meant. Everything in this world in my opinion, in 3d are just props for the soul, EVEN rawfood. I believe rawfood can help your own body heal itself, so I dont believe Raw food is my all savin god that I bow to everyday. External power source drain.... I'm very thankfull for it, I love it. It's an amazing helper to my already amazing system called the body. Internal source power system. So I feel raw helps us get back to our natural natures. But the natural nature was just buried under all the years of disconnection. Raw food doesnt create this nature for us. It just balances us back into what was lost. How cool is that... Anyways
But if your eating raw and still are dogmatic, scared, lost, etc what does being thin matter?
