I don't really know where to post this, but wanted to write about it. I don't watch TV and am pretty unfamiliar with what's on cable these days. But my roomies have one of those monster screens and sometimes well it's just on when I'm hanging out with them. One recent Sat they had the food network on and there was this program called the Iron Chef. I wasn't really looking at the screen, but the most horrific image caught the corner of my eye. I looked over and there were at least 40 full bodied dead pigs piled one on top of the other on this massive iron table. Meanwhile, 4-5 chefs in full attire where getting ready to compete and use every portion of these pigs to prepare their special "cusines". It was a contest. I just went into complete shock. What I saw were dead bodies being chopped up and I'm not kidding you it reminded me of a horror movie. My friends were not phased in the least. But my mouth was hanging open and I don't why but I couldn't pull myself away from looking. They were talking about brains and bellies...nonchalantly mentionining each chef's cooking style during this process. So that's enough...you get the picture.

At the end there were a panel of judges who sampled all of these disgusting (to me) dishes like strawberries and pork brains (i'm not kidding). They used every inch of these animals except the snout.

I'm glad to be raw vegan and it's not a judgement, it's just that I think it raises your awareness and keeps you clear about your health, the environment and remaining humane. I don't think any of the chefs or anyone watching believes anything is wrong with the picture of the slaughtered pigs and chopping them up. It wasn't so much that they were eating meat, it was the whole entertainment process that went along with it. I couldn't help but think what if there was a larger animal and it displayed human bodies on that table to prepare gourmet meals? That's gross I know, but that's the thought that came to my mind. It's just mind blowing sometimes how deeply ingrained this way of living is in our culture and it made me very sad, not to mention very sick to my stomach. I don't think I ate the rest of the day! lol.

Thank you for listening & letting me vent. This has been on my mind for a few days. Feel free to share whatever thoughts you might have on the subject. I was also curious if anyone has seen this particular show. For your sake, I hope you did not.

I think the iron chef has been checked off my tv viewing list.....like it was on there in the first place but you get what I'm saying.

Different strokes for different folks.
I recently drove in to the ground floor of a car park with my sister as the farmers market had been moved in there due to rain.
There was a stall selling some sort of roasted dead animal and as I let down the car window to find a parking space the smell came in and assaulted me.
I just said "can you smell that" and my sister replied "yes, doesn't it smell lovely". I found it so disgusting. I told her that I was considering putting her out and letting her walk home.

Wow, I used to watch Iron Chef all of the time and never saw anything like that! Although, they used lobster once, so it was lobsters piled on top of each other. Though, that image is nowhere near as horrific as the pig one you described!
I can't watch Iron Chef anymore because of all of the meat they use :/ Just doesn't look good any more

on the other hand, I think it is good for people to be reminded that "meat" doesn't spring out of nothing into those little packages, but that they began as a real, whole animal.

No, I wouldn't want to see it either. But if I knew someone that did, I would use that as some sort of way to talk about how real animals suffer when raised to be eaten.
