Quote from Revvell in another thread: "We're supposed to be eating for nutrition, not for our emotional issues, not out of boredom, not for entertainment. Nutrition! That's enough for me!"

I just had to copy this. It is such a precise and yet simple statement. This needs to be something I re-affirm everyday.

Thanks, Revvell!

Yup!

*nods head*

That Revvell - she's a keeper. ;)

How true it is though, having just gone through a few months of Vegan SAD/CRAP eating (read my confession below).

I am now eating for nutrition, NOT emotion!!!

I actually have that quote from Revvell on my fridge as MY reminder.

I totally agree and just had a moment where I felt like I wanted to eat some bread ... had it out... was just about to cut a slice.. when I stopped myself and asked... "do I want to eat this because I'm hungry (and even if I am I can eat raw food) or because I just want to feel emotional comfort? and I knew it was for comfort..

then I had to ask myself... well, do you want to eat for emotional comfort but be physically unhealthy or eat raw food instead and feel great??

and of course there was no question about it! I put the bread away and had a banana!

I think most of us KNOW what we need to eat and do, it's just the doin' that's the hard part! (and actually that's not so hard either, we just make it that way!).

Great response Luna. Yeah, so maybe I do just "want" it for comfort, but then do you jeapordize your health (physical, mental/emotional) for it? That is something to add to get into the right mindset.

And to go along with your last sentence, really, why do we (esp. me) make it so hard? How hard is it to peel a banana? It's putting "making the right choices" into action over motion. Here's to healing emotions in '09.

Thanks!

How true, how true. It's a hard habit to unlearn, but freeing when you get there - on good days, I'm there! :o:p
Reminds me of a Tim van Orden vid that I saw recently:

We make it hard because we are human, because we are trying to unlearn years and years of programming from our parents, society, commericals, and our own negative thoughts.

really though, it's all about decisions.... to decide to eat cooked food or not!

I was the worst at self medicating with food. THE WORST. Therapy is helping a lot, it's so much easier to keep raw when I'm getting my emotional well being taken care of properly.

What I love about raw is I do crave foods, but it's more like "I really want something with cherries in it today" not OH MY GOD IF I DON'T HAVE NACHOS IN THE NEXT 30 MINUTES I'M GONNA KILL SOMEONE.

Handle the emotions. Hire a coach/mentor.. something... to assist.

I've not had much success with food issues using EFT, although it has helped with some other things. Can you share more about how you use it with cravings or food issues?

I'm sorry, but this just made me LAUGH! I needed to laugh today. :D

Eating for nutrition....check. Not eating for emotional reasons....check. Not eating out of boredom....okay, as long as I still get to play with my food for entertainment.
I love food! I enjoy being in the kitchen. I enjoy creating raw food. There is a time for simple food, but all the time....No, thanks! That's boring! ;)

Could be or you need a better therapist.

For some of us, life has dished enough garbage that it just takes time to peel off the layers and clean out the swamp, no matter how good the therapist or how good the tecnnique is that's being applied.

It's a process. Sometimes it's a bloody process, often times it's glorious.

I know that. It's a life-long process. Doesn't mean one can't use a better therapist if needed.

Yes i think i do need a better therapist, but im 20, jobless(due to why i need to see a therapist) and the only treatment i can afford is NHS mental health care because its free, i manage to afford reiki now and again that helps alot, but im talking once a month if that.
