I have recently started to run again thanks to something called "Chi running." I thought I would expose everyone here about it, since it is such a wonderful tool. I discoved Chi Running becuase I kept getting shin splints.. it turns out I WAS RUNNING WRONG! Who knew??!?! There are tons of videos and books on improving tennis, golf swing, ext. and nothing about learning how to properly RUN!! This techinique is all about using gravity and your own energy to go with the flow. The creator, Danny Dreyer, has ran everything from a 10K to 100 miles! You know he knows what he's talking about.

I'll post something from their site.
www.chirunning.com

ChiRunning combines the inner focus and flow of T'ai Chi with the power and energy of running to create a revolutionary running form and philosophy that takes the pounding, pain, and potential damage out of the sport of running. The ChiRunning program increases mental clarity and focus, enhances the joy of running, and turns running into a safe and effective lifelong program for health, fitness, and well-being.

More than 24 million people in the U.S. alone run, however 65% of runners in the U.S., 15.6 million people, will have to stop running at least once during the year due to injury. Millions more quit or avoid running because of injury or the fear of causing long-term damage. Yet, there have been few new ideas or fresh approaches to running and injury prevention. The symptoms are being treated, but the problem has not been solved - until now

Hope this inspires someone to get back into running and take control of your health!

Thanks for the post...I'll have to look that up. I seem to frequently get a hitch in my giddyup when I run. And I do enjoy it, except for the hitch.

Cool, thank you!

In our interview with Tim VanOrden (http://LetsTalkRaw.com), one of the questions was about injuries and he said he had quite a few when he began, not know how.

I'll check this out as I'd love to run yet, it's not been fun and for me, if it's not fun, it's not fundamental.

I learned how to run by adopting techniques that I use for my parkour drops.

First of all you want your contact on the ground to be with the balls of your feet, and not with the heel or flat of the foot. Most people make the mistake when jogging, of landing on the heel. Such foolishness puts all the pressure straight to your KNEE, whereas you want the pressure to go to your shins and hamstrings.

Second of all, you don't really hit the ground with your foot, per se. Instead, you sort of bounce. You want to bend the knee, push out slightly after the foot hits the ground, converting the downward pressure to forward momentum. When most people run, they try to maintain a forward momentum, only using their feet as a contact with the ground. Instead, my momentum is undulating, going down slightly upon contact, and then springing forward again. Think of the force of gravity rolling down your leg and out the balls of your feet. You want that force to be directly opposed to the mass of the ground, so that the opposite force generated is kept at maximum intensity and not lost. When you land on the balls of the feet and have the ankle bent, the force generated is more diagonal than horizontal. This gives the run a wavelike motion, because the runner is using the force of gravity to his advantage, rather than trying to counteract it.

I've used this type of ground contact technique to drop from big heights onto the ground, without injuring my legs.

There is a science to the human body, after all. If you observe animals and watch how they use their musculoskeletal systems, it becomes clear that (as they say on the internet) most people ARE DOING IT WRONG.

So please, no more slapping the ground with the feet. You are wasting about 70% of your energy like that. Spend a few weeks training your ankles and the muscles in your feet (which most people hardly use) and you will be able to run much faster, use less energy, and you won't even have to kill your knees to do it.

When I get my weight down I hope to get into parkour again this summer. I loved it when I was thinner...

Barefooting parkour how interesting...

I've found that running on the front part of your foot is the only way to do it barefoot.
