so i have a dehydrator and it's just sitting there...i have never seen one before until i got this one from a friend. i wonder how i get started, what it's good for, what ingredients are a must have. i would like to make something today/tonight to learn how to use it...any tips would be very helpful.

Mine is full of fruit leather today. That is an easy place to start.
Get whatever fruit you have too much of and but it in the blender until all runny.
Pour on to the dehydrator sheet and spread evenly. Set the temp to 100 and leave to dry. The time will depend on the thickness. When they are fully dry just peel them off the sheet.

i think my dehydrator is a piece of crap...:( i just washed it, there's 7 trays, all plastic with lots of little holes, no fan, no thermostat, no timer, one plastic sheet on the bottom which i was told was to catch the drip, sounds like leather would just drip through the layers til it got to the bottom. i'm pretty disappointed cuz i was so excited. now i'm back a square one. just raw foods and a blender. my only exciting or different foods are green smoothies, raw salad dressing from nuts and raw apple pie. of course all the food is very good and tasty. just craving a lil variety

You can buy teflex sheets and use them. They do not come as standard and have to be bought separately.
In the meantime try using parchment paper.
Mine does not have a timer or a thermostat. I bought a cheap thermometer with a probe and a digital display. I have the probe attached to the top sheet. I never change my setting. I unplug when finished and the setting remains the same.
