So I am really hoping to try for a whole day of 100% raw soon. I don't think I'll be able to go 100% raw all the time, but I'm going to try going at least one day a week at 100% raw and see how that goes. I got paid yesterday and I have a little money to spend on groceries. I was wondering what kinds of things I should stock up on. Produce tends to go bad really quickly in my house. I have no idea why. Is there any way I can keep it fresh longer without freezing it? Here is a short list of what I plan on getting when I go shopping.
Apples
Bananas
Oranges
Pears
Kiwi
Pineapple
Carrots
Cucumber
Broccoli
Radishes
Anything else I should get?

I would definitely add some greens to that list! I'm becoming a huge fan of baby spinach.

Baby spinach is great for making salads and green smoothies. Get some raw almonds or other nuts too, great for making almond milk and you won't feel as hungry.

yep greens like Kale, Romaine lettuce, baby spinach keep pretty well in the fridge. With fruits I do keep the bulk of them in the fridge and take out little bits every night for my next day's consumption.
Almonds and baby spinach. Adding that to my list. Anything else?

Avocados are filling, nutritious and delicious. They are a life-saver for many who first go raw.
As for produce going bad, I use a tip I learned from Each Peach Pear Plum. Whenever I buy greens in those clear plastic tubs, I save the tubs. Then I use the tubs to store other fruits and veggies. They work really well for keeping food fresh, that's why the greens companies use them.

I love mushrooms and had a lovely salad with romaine, tomato, sunflower seeds, slivered almonds, and a bit of chopped mushroom - was delicious! The mushroom, almond and sunflower seeds gave the salad a very woodsy /meatie (if you will) flavor. Yummmmm
I also had for dinner last night - chopped portabella mushroom mixed with Fiesta Mole' sauce then mixed with chopped avocado & garlic. It was a mexican type dish that my hubster enjoyed too (right after he ate some leftover steak)...
Try to space your veggies out - by using the quickest to spoil first. Spinach seems to spoil quicker than Kale - and so on.
I wish you the very best in being 100% Raw!!
You Rawk!

I am also getting into raw and cutting out no-no's as I go (caffeine, soda, tea, sugar, processed) And I also thought it would be a great way in doing 1-2 days 100% raw and keep upping the other days this way by Feb 1st I should be set to go the challenge. I went to a little Friday sale place (farmers market type place) I live in a rural area so there is limited things except for a nice natural food place that has some things, ANYHOW I bought cherries, apples a pineapple and tomatoes all for $10 so that will save a bit when I get my usual groceries.

You might think of avacodo, blueberries, strawberries, melon, peaches depending on the prices. Another thing is to keep an eye out for a small amount of something new to you in order to find new favorites to expand your choices as you go.

That is a great tip! I have been recycling these, but there will be a new use for them now.
Thanks for all the tips and suggestions. I'm going to try and find a farmer's market nearby since at the moment, my only sources of produce are A) Walmart :( B) Kroger C) Health food store
Walmart produce is of bad quality and goes bad quickly. Produce from Kroger lasts longer but is slightly expensive, and they don't have a very large organic section (mostly greens and carrots and a few types of fruit). The health food store has an even smaller selection and even bigger prices.
I think I'm becoming addicted to avacados. Well in guacamole anyway. I love burritos and for while I thought I couldn't have them because I figured it wasn't vegan. I then decided to go there and try just getting the rice, beans, salsa, and corn and see what it was like but I saw the guacamole (which a friend who used to work there told me was completely vegan) and tried it on my burrito. It completely substituted for sour cream in my book and I LOVE IT. Every now and then I get a chunk of avacado and I love it by itself. I find myself eating more burritos now than I ever did as a mere vegetarian. I think it might be the avacado in the guacamole.

Here was my meal today to give you an idea:
Breakfast (I eat small ones):
Banana
Handful of grapes
Lunch:
Banana
Kiwi
Tangerine
Grapes
Apple
Dinner:
Large large salad with some raw dressing (made this at a raw resteraunt nearby)
Pina colada smoothie (all raw)
I do fruits until dinner at which point i usually do a salad.
IMO get some sort of vegan dressing that isn't too oily or too fat and stick with it for salad.
Thanks for the suggestions! I'm getting really excited about this. :) I just found a farmers market downtown and I've convinced my husband to take me there today. :) We shall see what we find.
