Hey guys! I'm one day into being raw...almost two...and everything seems to be going pretty smooth. I'm looking ahead into the different recipes and what not, and many times I see that I am to sprout things. I haven't really found where this term is defined and how to go about doing this "sprouting". Is it different from soaking something overnight? HELP...?

I had no clue how to do it. Then, I bought some quinoa and put it in a tupperware container with a bunch of water. I didn't think they would sprout or anything, just soften up. The next morning, they had tiny sprouts on them. They were also delicious in a salad and in lettuce wraps. I highly recommend putting at least one green smoothie in your daily routine to help with getting enough vitamins.

Cheers!

Sprouting is when a seed germinates :) . A sprout is a seed with a little root tail, and sometimes a tiny set of leaves. Sometimes soaking is all that is needed to cause germination and make a sprout. Usually in sprouting, more than simple soaking is required. Soaked seeds are put in a container that allows air circulation. Colanders, old panty-hose, nut mylk bags, paint strainer bags, old T-shirts, and glass jars with a mesh top are all good sprouting containers. The seeds are rinsed several times a day to cool them down and provide the water they need to germinate and grow. www.sproutpeople.com is a terrific sprouting resource. They provide all the education and equipment needed to successfully sprout.

I'd suggest you pick up Alissa's book and dvd series. They will make your whole "going raw" experience so delightful. Many of your questions will be answered including sprouting, what's right, what's wrong and how to do it all quick and easy.

Thanks so much guys. This has been really helpful. I actually have Cohen's book, but I will get the DVD too...the visuals would probably prove to be quite helpful.

...also, most grocery stores sell little boxes of them premade in the produce section somewhere, the better the store, the bigger the selection. ...if you're looking for a shortcut while you're learning everything. ;) ...they are about 2 bucks a box though, whereas making your own costs cents.

Sprouting your own Seeds is one of the Cheapest way to Stay RAW. I look at it as another form of Gardening. Much Success with your Sprouting.
