Over the past couple of weeks staying raw has been hard for me, however I have been doing pretty darn good. My dilemma is im always Freezing, not cold, freezing. Need to get under blankets, blow dry myself (yep, I do), tense up so much I get a backache FREEZING. I cannot drink green smoothies, Im also having trouble drinking water. My room where I keep my water is not cold, but the water is always slightly warmer then room temp. hot water is gross.

This doesnt happen with cold foods though. Just liquids.

im not sure if there is anything I could do. But I am realizing I was very dependant on green smoothies.

this might be gross, but i cut up a lil ginger and blend it in with my green smoothie:p

I do use cayanne, and to be honest I have never had ginger!

My concern is that I am not drinking. I did not drink ANYTHING yesterday, and have had 2 sips of water today. :(

try drinking some water and see how it goes. do you walk often? it'll help get your circulation going.

I know you don't like plain hot water, but how about hot water with lemon and ginger?

Are you possibly detoxing right now?

sarahrjm

yeah, I could be detoxing right now, Its been 3 months and I have not felt anything. However, I didnt expect much, I was pretty much raw besides rice and the occasional cooked veggie my entire life prior to raw. (allergies).

Do you live in a cold climate? Why I picked January in Chicago to go raw again is beyond me. Nothing like an ice cold smoothie on a -10F day.

This is going to sound weird, but my issues with starting raw were never being cold, but feeling small. Like actually shrinking small. It was then I realized how much I was self medicating with food. I'm in a better place between the ears and here I am, able to concentrate more on my overall health :)

Thanks guys!

I live in NY, we had an ICE storm last night! My car literally slid to the other side of my driveway by itself coming within INCHES of my boyfriends car. Yep, its freezing here.

I think ill go do some laps around the family room couch with the kiddies!

hehe. lightly crack open a window, when you get home. i know it's cold, but fresh air is really good for your circulation. usually, when a person is cold that means poor circulation among some other things. :p

stir in some raw honey to the hot ginger lemon drink.
I am in Colorado, it is cold right now, but dry cold.
NY is wet cold, harder to warm up, hope this helps.
I think you may be detoxing.

Other suggestion: Dry brushing your entire body.
Start at your toes and work up-remember: light strokes away from heart and firm strokes towards the heart.
Dry brushing will be beneficial for circulation and help detox to get it over sooner.

Hot bath and apply coconut oil after.

I always take a hot bath when I'm chilled to the bones and can't get warm!

OoOO a bath! But you need a bathtub for that! I guess i can fill the 1inch deep tub at the bottom of my shower stall with hot water and sit in it! OoO, MAYBE I can get in the kitchen sink :p I used to love kitchen sink baths when I was little! LOL

You know, I get these symptoms constantly now.

Either, when I'm high raw my hands and face are ALWAYS freezing... EVEN if I'm standing in front of a heater that's turned up full blast.

Last night I had a SAD meal, however, and not only did my week-long headache INCREASE in pain, but I began to shiver and shake, and my teeth chattered uncontrollably...

I am not sure whether the SAD (high carbs, gluten) or the RAW (always cold foods, LOTS of smoothies) are worse for causing the coldness symptoms!

oh my Green Woman! Me either!! Ironically, I lost 60lbs on a SAD diet prior to raw. With the weightloss alone I was freezing!!!!! Now im just EXTRA freezing!! I mean, I had 3 scarves on this morning!! Im going to look into buying a larger coat so i can wear 2! LOL. its very bad!!

I am just really concerned with my lack of fluid intake! I am drinking NOTHING. I know all of the fruits and veggies I eat are loaded with water, but Im getting headaches, and I think it might be dehydration. or detox. so confused!

I have problems with being cold too.

Here are my thoughts...

If it's your hands and feet primarily, it could be poor circulation, which I have trouble with, I have quite low blood pressure.

Take your temperature. You could be detoxing or sick and it's making you run a slight fever, thus making the air around you feel cold.

I second drinking herbal teas...I drink them all the time. If you were sticky, you could heat the water and then let it cool before you put your teabag in. Lots of rawbies drink herbal teas though.

Do your best not to get cold in the first place because it's very difficult to get rid of it once it sets in. So, I wear two pairs of socks, long johns, long sleeved shirt and cardigans regularily. Slippers. Staying warm in the first place as best you can is Key.

and I have been making good use of hot water bottles....but I am sick right now too.

You mentioned that you lost a bunch of weight. Is this your first winter with much less bodyfat? If so, you probably are used to being warmer without much effort...and you need to realize that skinny people Need those layers!

Sarah, try hydrotherapy showers.

Really hot, then really cold. Alternate and repeat a few times. After awhile the cold water will feel invigorating believe it or not! Rinse with cool water. You will feel very warm and even hot at the end of your shower.

This is a very good way to increase circulation.

I took one this morning and I'm still feeling warm even in chilly weather.

Bananaa - This is technically my first winter being so thin im 5'7 145lbs. So, yeah I really had no idea what it was like to be thin in the winter besides now!

RawHeaven - Thanks for the hydrotherapy shower idea! I will read up on it!!

I am up for trying ANYTHING!

Sounds like, since you've lost a lot of warmth from fat, maybe it's time to pack on some muscle to keep you warm? maybe try doing some resistance training - that'll get you warm for short-term and long-term!

It could be a thyroid issue. Maybe try taking some kelp and L-Tyrosine for a few days and see if you feel better.

Interesting Inca Faerie, I have taken L-Tyrosine before, Along with a bunch of other herbs and stuff that a natural nutritionist recommended for anxiety.

I am going to have to noodle on that! maybe try it out.

Interesting, i didn't know that this could cause this symptom of cold. Interesting, this thryroid seem to be a major issue for so many, i wonder if i had that before the raw food etc...

Well feeling cold and poor circulation is a sympton of hypothyroidism. I think the opposite is true for those with hyperthyroidism.

very astute observation inca faerie...

other symptoms would include tiredness, dry frazzled hair, dry skin...that's all I can remember....for hypo, that is.
