View Full Version : Oatmeal - Raw?
This is probably a really dumb question and its probably been answered before. Is oatmeal, the rolled kind in the big cylinder container, raw? They are probably toasted or something, right? I ask because oatmeal is a big part of my diet. I normally eat anywhere from 2-3 cups of it a day, cooked. So I was wondering if it is raw.
Also, are soymilks and rice milks raw?
Sorry for all the questions today. I'm trying to get an idea of what I can do with certain foods. I successfully had a 100% raw breakfast, so I'm hoping to make my lunch raw today. If I can't, then I will continue to try and make my breakfasts raw. I had an orange, 2 bananas, and 1/2 cup kale for breakfast and it filled me up and tasted really yummy (especially when you let the bananas sit for a few days. They get really sweet!)

Soymilk and rice milk are not raw. Oats can be raw....they even have little roller machines so you can buy the oat groats and then roll them into oat meal. I personally find that eating raw oats, even when they have been soaked, backs me up. Seems like alot of people on this site use them to make ganola and for breakfast. As far as a milk.....try making a nut milk. Here's one that I make: 1/2 cup almonds, 1/2 cup medjool dates, 1 tsp vanilla, 5 cups water.....blend until nice and smooth. Keep chilled in the refridgerator and shake before using. I use this in my smoothies etc. BTW...you would really love Alissa's book and DVD. There is a section that talks about exactly what is raw and what is not raw. She also talks about the difference between raw foods and living foods.....it's really quite interesting. Someone mentioned that they found it at their public library. Sounds like a great breakfast....oh, how did you eat your kale, I'm trying to find a way that I can prepare it so I like it.
I ate it as is, raw. It was the least yummy of my breakfast, but I wanted to see what it tasted like raw. (I've only ever eaten kale cooked).
Well I was wondering if the kind that I buy is raw. It is the store brand version of Quaker Oats rolled oats. The container says nothing about whether it is cooked, toasted, ect. It just says it is 100% whole grain old fashioned rolled oats.

Oatmeal that comes in the big cylinder container is NOT raw. You can get raw oats in health food stores. You can find raw food recipes that use oats on the Internet.
Soymilk and rice milk are not raw. Anything you buy in a box or a bottle is not going to be raw.
It is fairly easy to make almond milk, and you can find recipes for making it all over the Internet.
