i know i know the title lol
lately, i've been doing some thinking about these "gurus" of the raw food movement. when i first started out raw, three months ago, i was so lost. therefore, i bought tons of books explaining and detailing raw foods and the transition. but then i noticed something. each book came with different suggestions. some suggested to stay away from certain, raw or not. others were jumping on the superfood bandwagon and advising me to consume cacao and maca and goji berries. i'm a college student so that was hard on the budget. funny thing i bought those superfoods lol
well within four weeks of using large amounts of cacao DAILY, i wasn't feeling good. i thought this was part of the healing crisis, but i wanted to test it, so i removed the cacao for a week and felt a little better. this was odd to me since cacao is supposed to so great for u. well i didn't do my research on the negative effects it has on some people. and those nuts, geez i was consuming far too many. it was giving me digestive issues. there r a lot of things i have had to correct about my raw food diet on my own. now instead of clinging on to every word the "gurus" say, i listen to what my body says. my body really has a way with words i tell ya lol.
ok this is getting too long. what i am trying to say people is please don't cling to every word some raw food authority tells u is right. whats right for them may not be for u. even looking on youtube, i see so many people making this mistake and getting frustrated when they r not seeing the results or sucess on the raw food diet. ONLY YOU KNOW UR BODY AND WHAT IT REQUIRES.
:D hope no one got offended i just needed to get that out my system
 now i'm off for some ice cream
:p a wid a nkou

Yes everyone has a different Spin on a lot of the Same things and you're right in the end we must make decisions for ourselves.
Great points. I don't think there are any true gurus out there. Raw food is simply raw food. We don't need a guru to eat food that's uncooked.
I do like having a fun variety of un-cook books and spicing things up when I'm in the mood for something different. Uncooking is just so much fun! :)

I found the same thing with all the books I read but I do have to say that Alissa's book was the ONE book that seemed to really give me a good foundation, even now I still always recommend her book to someone new to raw foods and they just need a good, well rounded understanding of how to do it and to have thier questions answered.

For me, I do listen to the "guru's" (which just means leaders in a particular field) to find out who they are, why they came to raw and to learn their experiences which is why I do my shows and go to events such as Raw Spirit Festival.
There was one well-known speaker who I basically shunned for various reasons until I heard him speak. I kept saying "that make sense" throughout the talk. If I'd not done that, I'd have missed someone's research and experiences.
If what I hear/read doesn't make sense to me, I just leave it at the door but I don't shun those who teach. The decision will always be left up to me.

Just like with anything else it is good to learn from people who can teach you from experience and knowledge, but we are all flawed humans. No one is infallible and no one has all the answers!

That sums up why I think I don't need "gurus" to eat my food. There are so many meanings for the word, but what first comes to my mind is the traditional definition of a religious leader and that person's followers. I love to learn from people like Alissa and Doug Graham and the whole lot of 'em, along the plethora of info I can glean from Revvell's interviews, but I don't have or need any true gurus. ;)

:)this is exactly my point. its always good to hear someone else's point of view, but at the end of the day i should not soley rely on them for matters of my health. i apologize if anyone took this to mean that u should not have an open mind to new ideals about raw food. just don't make it ur only source.

I have learned soooooooooooooooo much from all the different so-called Guru's. They have alot of Education, Information, Knowledge, and Experience that I did not and do not have. So, I listen and learn...........but, I also listen and learn from my own body and certain foods or diets just don't seem to be in sync with my body at this time. Maybe, later ........... as my body changes. I too am sensitive to cacao and high glycemic foods.
GOod post.............still have to listen Revvels show!
