Day 2 and I've been mixing with romaine. First day I could handle it by chugging, today I cant even get myself to do that. PUKE - I even tried a little vanilla extract to take down the green taste. I barely even have any greens in there either. Is there another green I could try thats milder tasting?

Spinach is my mild green of choice in green smoothies. Make sure you're putting in enough fruit to make it sweet, especially starting out. One to two bananas, some blueberries, a handful of black cherries, a handful of mango and whatevery else I have in there frozen is what I put in mine. I use about 4 cups of spinach, too, but you don't have to use that much. (I don't know if powdered greens would be better, but I also put a T of VitaMineral Green and some frozen acai.
Your green smoothie should be most enjoyable, not a "gag it down" experience.
For some other great ideas, Lucy has a thread on here that has 70 different green smoothies that looks awsome.

Yup....spinach to start out with....add frozen fruit too...makes it cold and very sweet, you don't hardly taste the greens. Frozen blueberries are great.a purple green smoothie!:D

yep another vote for baby spinach from me - I started with a frozen banana added in with what ever other kinds of fruits you think would taste nice (for me pineappl, frozen red grapes, maybe a few dates, or some coconut oil)

If it's made correctly, you shouldn't even taste the greens at all. Romaine is actually quite mild. I use kale, which is a very bitter green and I can't taste it at all mixed with (cold, not frozen) bananas and water. Using more fruit or a good tasting food powder can help if you need it.
Your green smoothie should be an amazing shake that you look forward to.
Did you end up getting another blender or are you using the magic bullet still? That could be another reason it's not coming out right.

baby spinach, frozen mango, some parsley, 1 young coconut (meat and water) is the combo I started with and that my children love as monster smoothie (that's the only green smoothie they will drink)

Spinach and kale are my greens of choice. When I tried romaine and other leaf lettuces they were to strong for me. I use parsley and sprouts sometimes but they are very strong and I know it so I am prepared for the taste when I use them. Try using a strong flavored fruit and that should help.

I have abnormally strong senses I think. I'm the person that can smell something that no one else can, so taste goes along with it!
Yes, I am still using the Magic Bullet, but why would it taste different if it was mixed in a vitamix? It's completely smooth, absolutely no chunks or even flakes at all.
I dont think I had enough fruit in it. I will follow an actual recipe next time - just having a hardtime wanting to use 3/4 of a bag of organic strawberries for one smoothie that just cost me $3! Yikes!

Really ripe bananna frozen
1 -2 handfuls of frozen strawberries
1 handful Spinach
1 tsp spirulina
8 oz Almond milk (Pacific Brand) is the brand I prefer because it has zero soy lecithin. or you can sprout almonds and make your own almond milk.
Blen together and enjoy!

spinach.
the cheap blenders dont blend the same as the good ones. there's an explanation about this someplace.

How thick is it. I Always use Orange Juice and Bananas as a Base for Any Smoothie I make. A Vita-Mix does make a difference, you can see if you could compare it side by side.
Also hold your Nose while drinking your Smoothie, I often do this when I have made something that Taste BAD and I don't want to waste it. Once it passes the Lips, the Stomace is Happy and Full and says That's Good.

Switched to spinach and its a HUGE difference. I think my magic bullet does a good enough job. I cant justify a $400 blender when this pulverizes it to a juice that no fruit or green is recognizable.

lambsquarters or what is called Mache in the grocery stores to me is a milder flavor. Not strong at all. Mango is also good in the green smoothie with banana

I use the magic bullet as well, and I have no problems with it.
I also use spinach a lot, but I try to vary my greens. But I definitely would always put a banana in it, it sure makes a difference in the sweetness department. Bananas and frozen berries or mango.
I NEVER use salad greens, like romaine or baby greens etc, because I can't stand my smoothies tasting like salad! I love salad, but I don't want my smoothies tasting like it. :p Maybe that's what you experienced as well. :)

I don't think the Mache tastes like romaine or some of the other lettuces you use. It is a mild flavor. If you taste it right out of the bag, it isn't strong at all.

Oh, I was actually responding to the original poster, yellowlilax.
I have used lambsquarters, but never heard of mache before, but I have no problem with wild lambsquarter. I have used a few wild edibles in my smoothies. They are much stronger than store bought greens, and I have actually come to like even the bitter taste of dandelion greens. I just don't like the salad taste of salad greens.

use baby spinach, but you should start out with a very small amount (like 1/2 cup) and blend with water and lots of fruit. Then in a week or two add more spinach. It takes time. I promise you won't taste anything green. :)

Bellamausi, I wish I had a place I could pick wild greens, but......before I pick, I need to learn what is what! I buy mache at trader joes and it comes in packages. If you look on the back of the bag where it lists ingredients it says lambsquarters, so I am assuming they are different words for the same item.:)

I have found the mildest green to be baby spinach. . .
When I started out I too disliked the taste. My green drinks also need to appeal to my young children so they have to be tasty. This is a link (w/photos) to a thread I did some time ago and makes a killer green smoothie; however it is time consuming. I made this everyday for about two years. Remember to change this recipe to your liking.

I have now streamlined my green smoothie making operation as my tastes have changed. I now love the green in my drinks and cant pack in too many into my VM. I also now drink many of my green smoothies as savory soups as one does not always want sweet.
Cheers,
EPPP

Baby spinach and kale work for me....w/lots of fruit. If I don't have that sweet taste from the fruit I can't handle it. Yum - I was just thinking about how I can't wait to have my big smoothie in the morning when I wake up!:D
