Hi - was wondering what you thought of this. I bought some raweos at whole foods & they use lightly toasted carob powder instead of complete raw carob powder. They explain it this way:
"☼LIGHTLY ROASTED CAROB☼
Why do we use light roasted carob when raw carob is readily available?
Dr. Jameth Sheridan can explain exactly why we choose the lightly roasted form. Simply put, carob in its raw form is toxic. It is through the application of heat that the toxicity is neutralized and the nutritional properties are enhanced. For a complete description of the process that brought this to Jameths awareness follow the link below."
They link to Dr. Sheridan's explanation is here (http://www.blessingsaliveandradiantfoods.com/drjashwoonca.html).
So what do you all think?
Thanks,
Karen

Whoa! That is news to me. I buy bulk 'raw' carob powder at my local health food store, and now I am wondering if it is lightly roasted also. I have never had any issues consuming it, though. So maybe it isn't truly raw. I will find out from the store.
I have to agree with Dr. Sheridan. Raw cannot take precedence over health and safety in certain foods. Thank you so much for bringing this out!

News to me as well. I purchased "raw" from Matt Monarch. Made fudgie wudgies w/ carob; shared fudgie wudgies w/carob ~ I'm still here! (hmmm. Thinking I may have to check on those I share them with, huh?)
O.k., just read what he wrote. He's SELLING something!
Correct me if I'm wrong here. He says that heating is a good thing. Dehydrating is heating yet he got a toxic feeling when eating after heating. Maybe it's cuz it' 5:12 in the ayem and I'm reading funny but, I'm confused.

That's what I thought at 1st but I've searched everywhere for his carob powder & it doesn't appear that he's selling any. The company sells a bunch of other things though.
I, too, have used the really raw carob powder with no side effects.
Thanks,

Raw carob is actually used as a medicine. Most medicinal plants have some sort of toxin in them. I'll research further, as I may be a bit bias, but it has always been my understanding that raw carob is good for you and your digestive system in reasonable doses.

Just look at the website he's saying it on...raweos, lemon swirls, and kale chips (good virtually raw kale chips though :) )...yeah, I don't see what he could possibly be selling either.

Revvell--it looked like he was saying that the raw dehydrated one gave a toxic feeling, not the cooked one...
But hey all, he claims the one used in VMG is ENZYME ACTIVE... how can it be enzyme-active if its heated/ roasted!!!?? just wondering.... this seems weird.

I read he said the lightly heated one was good. To me, dehydrating is lightly heating. *shrugs* Haven't reread it so, could be wrong... don't care. I eat it rarely; I eat it "raw" (far as I know) and, I've not had bad reactions so, I'm good with it.
