Is there anyone who can reccommend a place to get raw food (a stor or restaurant) near Manassas, Virginia. Do you need a dehydrator to prepare raw food and if so where is the best place to get one? (online?). Any ideas where one can find the cheapest juicers? Thanks.. I am trying to lose some weight/body fat and thought that trying raw food might help.

Maybe I need to reword this... if I did want to eat raw food how do I start?
I am assuming I need to buy a dehydrator and maybe a juicer..... does anyone know where I can find some recipes?

The main appliance most use/need is a good quality blender, preferably a Vitamix if you can. A juicer & dehydrator isn't necessary at the beginning unless you want them. I have some recipes at the link below along with a little bit of raw info. There is a lot of info on this forum as well as Alissa Cohens book and DVD that others will recommend you get.

You can make most meals yourself, buy some locally if there are stores or purchase online.

I just use a cheapo blender. When making green smoothies, just blend your greens with the water first and then add your fruit. The greens get blended up better that way.

Also, dehydrators really aren't necessary unless you don't want to eat very simply. You could just eat fruits, veggies, nuts and seeds the way they are. But, if you want a dehydrator go ahead and get one. I'm getting one as soon as I can. I think we're not supposed to discuss other places to buy things if Alissa sells it on her site, but I'm not seeing dehydrators on this site, so I say go check out ebay for an Excalibur, Good4U, or VegiKiln. They all have adjustable heat settings.

Alissa does sell juicers if you're looking for one of those.

Also, Alissa's book has recipes. Good ones, too! :)

An Easy way to Start RAW without any appliances is to Eat Fruit and Salads. After being RAW for years you will find yourself eating this way all the time. You can be RAW without a dehydrator. I wish your Dreams come True.

hi--if you are ever in alexandria, you could try MOMs (My Organic Market), though i dont know that they have any prepared raw foods. you can get organic fruit and veggies there but then you can get those at other places too. you can get sunflower and pumpkin seeds raw, and sesame seeds, and lentils and grains from the bulk bins to sprout (but you can get these at whole foods or wherever too). you may also be able to get raw chocolate spread (one in rockville has), and raw coconut butter (artisana brand) and you should be able to get raw honey and maybe raw agave. they may have some raw snacks and raw bars too, it just depends on the store. that aside, i love moms and there stuff is always seems really fresh--oh yeah you can probably also get raw fermented veggies--DEEP ROOTS brand, SO GOOD.

i have friends that live in manassas and there is somewhere else they go to get organic stuff in manassas--wegmanns maybe? i dont remember. its some chain but they said it has a great organic section, comparable to whole foods.
