I have volunteered to bring a fancy raw cake to a surprise going away party for some friends and would like to know what you all would recommend. I made Alissa's Carrot Cake for a picnic once for this same group (sad eaters) and it did not go over at all (my husband and I sure enjoyed it though). So I need to make something that would sneak in under their radar and be awesome looking at the same time. And I'm not gonna tell 'em it's raw till after they flip over it. :D Suggestions?
Thanks all!!

I WAS going to suggest a pan of frosted brownies, but scratch that. Mel's suggestion looks spectacular (and worth every calorie as I say--but who's counting).

I have made that cake several times- plus sometimes I cut the amount of cocoa butter in half, leave out the crust and squiggles, and make it into fudge.

The amount of cocoa butter in the cake is alot and makes it very firm, so you can get away with cutting it a bit as long as you keep it chilled.

Hey EPPP! Awesome! Yes please send them to me. I am sensitive to chocolate so as much as I would LOVE to make the first cake mentioned, if I do I won't be able to eat but a bite of it. So, yes that would probably take care of my problem. Thanks sooo much!!! :D

Do you have Alissa's book? She has a Black Forest Cake recipe in there that is awesome. I made the Chocolate Ganache Tart from RFRW for Christmas and it was incredible.

Just had to post somewhere that I made the Black Forest cake for the first time and it was so very incredibly amazingly wonderfully totally delicious! It was my boyfriend's birthday cake and I made a smiley face with cherries on top. Did I mention it was good?:p What a great recipe!

Same, go to 'greenchefs' then 'recipes/desserts' scroll down to the bottom and I think it's on the second page.

One company had invented the "iSmell" that allowed websites, emails, etc to generate a scent when you visited them but it never went into production.

lol wow! what a deal! not sure what i'd do with one of those! i'd probably sleep next to it & end up getting some weird brain tumor... :/ lol

i just realized what i said in my previous post made zero sense.... i am tired. lol obviously the transporter would come in handy for wanting to beam the cake over to my desk.. i had a blonde moment (and i am allowed, because that's my natural hair color)...

anywho.... i'm going to bed now.... the sun is up and i don't want to be burned into ashes... lol http://i613.photobucket.com/albums/tt213/patriotcz/popo_after_boom.png

I would love to make this cake (http://therawchefblog.com/marbled-chocolate-orange-tavoletta) for my childrens birthday party this weekend. But, all I have is cacao powder...is there any way that I can substitute the cacao powder for the carob powder?

Yes you can use cacao powder instead of carob, I think it tastes better too. Do you also have the cacao butter the recipe requires? That's a hard to find ingredient and I only find it online.

Also don't forget almonds grown in USA are pasteurized with cancer causing chemicals since 2007.

Alissa's Black Forest Cake is RAWsome! Just be sure you have a cherry pitter. Here's what I made yesterday ~ Strawberry Cream Pie (http://rawmazing.com/raw-food-recipes-healthy-food-recipes-healthy-food-raw-food/raw-strawberry-cream-pie/). (does it HAVE to be a cake?)

I almost bought a cherry pitter yesterday but it was $15, I found it was expensive especially since there's only cherries available once or twice a year. I'm happier with my new $50 whipper, I can finally have really whipped raw nut creams.

Thanks Raweater,

I just noticed the cacao butter...no I do not have any. I probably won't be able to get any before Saturday, so I will have to find another cake recipe. I didn't know that about almonds:rolleyes:...where do you buy your almonds from?

My health food store sells almonds from Italy and Spain, but they are very expensive. I've replaced almonds with walnuts in almost every recipe and it doesn't affect the taste much at all.
