Hello everybody!

I have been doing a lot of research on the raw vegan diet (including reading through your forums a lot!) and have decided to make my New Year's Resolution to go on a completely raw food diet...

On top of all the health benefits and increased energy (that I've read of at least), I am also doing this as a way to lose weight...at 5'7" and 155 lbs, do you think it is a reasonable goal for me to try to lose 2 lbs a week?

I am aiming to get down to 120 lbs by May...Do any of you have any advice or suggestions? I would very much appreciate any tips from raw foodists as successful as yourselves :)

Enjoy the end of the year!!

Unless your are small Boned.. 5'7 120 is WAYYY skinny. I am 5'7 145 and im borderline sickly looking at times. BUT.. that wasnt your question!!

I dont think the goal is un-reasonable at all! Just need to stick with it! You can do anything if you are determined!

I think you should go raw and let your body decide what is reasonable!! This I've learned from this forum.

I have to agree. Just go raw and see what happens. It's a journey to be ENJOYED for a life time. :)

You'll probably lose the most initially and then taper off...because the more overweight you are, the quicker you release...so you'll do fantastic meeting this goal at first and then it will become harder and harder, you may become discouraged as a result and plateau completely or fall of the wagon...

I would therefore recommend looking at it a bit differently....more of a sliding continuum of weight loss....possibly losing 3-4 pounds a week for the first month, then 2-3 for the next month or two, and then 1 a week the nearer you are to goal.

Weighing again is a bit of a science, same time of day, once a week, same spot on the floor, lol...

Don't obsess over it, just enjoy the transition as much as you can. The energy you will have will be hilariously amazing!

go raw until it's an easy habit. then you can tweak with it later to reach your weightloss goal. :D

i've been raw since '04 i think or '03. it's been a while. the lowest i had been was 5'4" and 118lbs, and that was when raw came pretty easy for me. i naturally craved all things raw. cooked food would get me sick right away. so they weren't as tempting anymore. that's when i began to tinker away for health reasons. not weight. now i'm 5'4" and under 100lbs. i'm about 97 lbs. i want to be 110-120lbs but will see how my body goes.

For me loosing weight means working out, sleeping well, and eating well. I do the entire circle to make me complete and healthy.

Good luck with your goal.

120 pounds may be too low for you at your height. That's how much I weigh, and I'm 5'2" and I don't consider myself to be overweight. I've been a raw vegan for a year. That said, body composition makes a big difference, and I have a lot of muscle.

I would agree with what everyone else says - just go raw and health and a balanced weight will come naturally. What's the rush, anways? You want to have a healthy body for your whole life.
