Hi everyone,
I broke my shoulder a few days ago and am hoping to find a few tips hee about how to heal as quickly and strongly as I can.
Everyone around me keeps telling me i've got to drink milk and that my diet is the reason i'm in this position, and i'm really starting to think i should drink milk, both for the calcium and the high calorie.. I m really underweight and just started working out and was gaining a little but now thats cancelled.

I do eat greens but any more than a green smoothie per day and it seems to come out undigested anyway. What are other raw, bone healing foods?
Also, does anyone have any tips for pain? I'm trying to avoid taking this huge bottle of 100 pills but have already caved in as everyone is constantly encouragin me to.
Thnks

i broke my arm, foot, leg, hand in a motorcycle accident which brought me to raw foods ironically after my recovery.

i found what worked:

MSM supplements

dark greens (as michigan roman mentions)

green smoothies with tons of spinach, kale etc

apples, lemons, oranges

ginger root is great for inflammation and if you're taking pain meds helps with the nausea as well

DRINK A LOT OF PURE WATER

DRINK TONS OF WHEATGRASS JUICE also - it is a miraculous healer and ]will speed up your recovery - drink it every day if you can.

i also started juice fasting AFTER MY RECOVERY - DON'T FAST WHILE YOU'RE HEALING. i did the Master Cleanse first after my final operation and wow, it really helped clear the mucus from my body and regenerate cells in my bones

it's more important to eat foods that don't leach calcium from your bones and will give your body a chance to regenerate and heal. in my experience i think it's a misconception that you have to focus all of your attention on boosting calcium when you break a bone. the body knows what it's doing. it's more important to give it all of the tools it needs to heal. Eating raw foods, getting lots of greens in your system, getting plenty of rest & sunshine, letting others help you and really the wheatgrass will help you immensely.

try acupuncture too - it really helps rebalance your body. when you break a bone it throws your ENTIRE body out of whack. it's helpful to work with a healer (acupuncture, reiki, etc) who knows how to get to the core of what is out of balance. orthopedic surgeons are wonderful too, but they are interested in the mechanics of repairing your bones not rebalancing all of your systems.

if i remember anything else, i'll send you an email. it's been a couple of years.

I hope you experience a complete, smooth and quick recovery.

I agree. It's more important to eat foods that don't leech calcium and other minerals from your bones. Green smoothies as were mentioned, which will give you minerals and protein. You need many calories especially if you are underweight, and fruit is a great source of that. Your diet is NOT why you have broken a bone. I'm sorry, but you'll be more likely NOT to break anything.

Shoulders can heal fast. Just keep it stabilized and don't move it at all. Another thing that helps is really bringing your attention to your shoulder. Energy follows consciousness, so when you put your consciousness into your shoulder, energy (and blood) flow there. So there's the energy aspect of healing.

Wishing you a speedy recovery!!!

Bringing in truckloads of cement won't fix the broken wall.

Just noticed your question about pain.

Meditation, deep breathing and visualizing my nerve endings calm and painfree helped me. Acupuncture too.

But remember that if you're in pain, your body's energy and resources will be expended trying to deal with that.

It's much better to manage the pain, so that your body can focus it's energy and attention on healing your broken bone and repairing other systems.

In that regard, pain medication is helpful if you're really in a lot of pain. Please take them if you are and other methods don't work. In my experience, there was no way I couldn't take the drugs. I was in too much pain. I found that being raw helped me get off of them quicker. When you use them for pain it doesn't impact you as much.

When you start to make a complete recovery and the pain isn't as great, than you will intuitively know when it's time to stop using them.

Everything allready being said plus foods high in silica, somting like horsetail or nettles. The bedst way to strengthen your bones as underweightet is exercise. The muscles pulling on the bones makes them stronger.
I deffenly second the wheatgrass/barleygrass :D

RawHeaven, don't be so hard on Jurence. I think what he is trying to say is that no amount of stuff you put into your body will heal it, only the body can heal itself.

That said, from personal experience with broken bones I know that massive amounts of MSM, 6 to 10 times what they tell you on the bottle, is extremely helpful to the bones to knit themselves back together. The powder form is best. Drinking milk will not do you a bit of good, since protein digestion will leech calcium out of your body to counteract the acidity milk promotes in your body. Milk, especially pasteurized milk, in my view is a deadly poison.

For pain I recommend Phenocane, which is a supplement consisting of boswellia, curcumin, and dl-phenylalanine. Google it. It's not a "pain gone in 30 minutes or less" kind of thing but works over time. For immediate pain I find icing it works well. The best thing is not to move much.

Finally, greens, greens, greens!
I wish you the best. Get well quickly!:)

speaking of barley grass i just read of barley sprouts possibly holding B12 ,

ive given away all my norman walker books so cant read up but remember walker saying magnesium is just as important in bone healing as calcium , i think he said the magnesium gives the bones hardness .

Greens, green juice, wheat grass... You get the picture. ;)
...and everything else said, I agree with, too. Lots of good advice here.

Be well. :)

It is. Without the magnesium, the calcium will not be absorbed. If you get calcium from supplements (not a good idea), you should look for one that has a 2:1 ratio of calcium to magnesium. Thanks about the barley sprout idea (and all the other B12 info). I'm going to find me some barley. It's a little difficult, most places only sell pearled barley.

The homeopathic remedy Symphytum will cause the bones to knit together much faster. Warning: the bones must be set before taking the remedy. (I'm not sure what that means in terms of a shoulder.)

Arnica will help with the pain.

I hope that you feel better very soon, mmmfood.

Hi
My boyfriend broke his right wrist in a soccer collision a year ago. The doctor gave him some chocolate flavored calcium pills, pain killers, and told him to consume as much dairy as he can to help with healing. He did none of that and today his right wrist is as good, almost as good as his left wrist.
What did he do?
- Drank a lot of green smoothies
- Drank a shot of wheat grass every morning and one at night
- Juiced a little more broccoli in green his green juice
- Rested his wrist for as long as he was in his cast

He was able to get his cast off earlier than they (the docs) expected. He healed perfectly. As soon as he was out of the cast he went straight to physio where they really push his limits with his wrist more than he would have at home on his own.

As long as you are eating a variety of raw, organic vegetables, fruits and nuts and seeds you will be getting plenty of magnesium, vit C, calcium.. everything your body needs for healing and recovering.

Here's a few links I found on milk and well... read and you'll find ;)

I'd suggest you get yourself a vitamin K supplement in the form of phylloquinone (natural, non-synthetic) right away. It's extremely important for bone health.

I apologize Jurence. I let my emotions get caught up in my response. Experiencing bodily trauma is not fun....bones were shattered not just broken in my case. In a wheelchair for a year, couldn't walk for two. If Emma's interpretation is correct, we are pretty much saying the same thing. I know firsthand how amazing the body is as I'm walking and have solid bones again. I was reading something else in your response.

Emma, I think in the future Jurence and I or anyone else can speak for ourselves. I had already let it go. Next time I will be sure not to post a personal question in an open, public forum and rather PM or send an email.

Thank you & Happy New Year.

mmmfood...sorry to hijack your thread with this.

Again wishing you a speedy recovery. Remember also to laugh a lot --rent some comedies. Laughter is a huge healer for the body.

Warm regards,
