View Full Version : Juice Feast
My husband and I are going to do a 7-day juice feast starting tomorrow. We got our new juicer today and we are trying it out tonight. We are making tomorrow morning's juice. Is it ok to make juice a day in advance? Its almost just about 8-9 hours in advance really. I heard the juice keeps for two days.

Juice starts oxidizing immediately. What I do is fill a mason jar completely full so that when I put the lid on it there is no airspace left. Then I put it in the refrigerator until I need it. Usually I make juice in the morning to last me for the day.

Do whatever you need to keep it simple so you'll stick with it.
I suppose we should start waking up early then to make juice. We are currently juicing for tomorrow morning and we are making a juice that tastes pretty good for our first attempt. It is all fruit and consists of oranges, kiwi, and apples. Very very yummy, but we are realizing that we did not get enough produce for the week. We will have to do more shopping. Any suggestions for when we go shopping again?
We bought:
Apples
Oranges
Kiwi
Broccoli (not sure how this will juice, but we shall see)
Kale
Basil
Tomato
Onion
Garlic
We also got banana then realized it probably won't juice well. :(

My juices normally start with lots of carrots and some apples. Then I add celery and/or cucumbers, tomatoes, beets (go slow on those at first, they can upset yur stomach), parsley, or anything else you like. Check out some books on juicing. A good one is Norman Walker's juicing book. The man lived way past 100 on juice. He among other says that the only fruit you should mix with vegetables is apple and possible lemon. I also include ginger and when I get cold I put in cayenne pepper. I would suggest that you don't do too many things at the same time. Happy feasting!

carrot and spinach tastes like chocolate milk. yum.
my favorites:
- celery, granny smith apple, fennel with a squeeze of lemon and pinch of cinnamon
- orange, cranberry
- pineapple, wheatgrass
- pineapple, cilantro, ginger
- pineapple, beet
- orange, parsley
- celery, apple, ginger
- watermelon, strawberry
- watermelon, mint
- kale and coconut water
have a delicious juice feast!
We made a second one with tomatoes, kale, carrot, celery, and garlic. At first it tasted great and tasted similar to vegetable soup, but my husband is a garlic fanatic and wanted just one more clove of garlic, so we added it in and boom! The juice sets your tongue on fire for a few seconds. We tried calming it down with more carrot and some water, but it's still pretty hot. More tomato, less garlic next time.
We've almost run out of fruits and veggies though. We have one orange left, a few apples, a handful of kiwi and tons of broccoli and celery left. Not to mention tons of kale. So we will probably have to go shopping tomorrow to get more stuff.
Thanks for the suggestions.

oh what a wonderful feast, enjoy it! The freshly pressed juice tastes best to me but I also agree with GilmoreGirl about the simplicity of it all,-that's important as well. On the other hand, this wonderful food makes you feel so incredibly good that it's hard NOT to stick with it :)
Have fun

what type of a juicer do you have? the centrifugal juicers start oxidizing immediately so they are best consumed within minutes. the masticating juicers last 24 hours. this does make a difference.
i like emma's suggestion of filling the jar up to the top, but you could also make the juice the day before, freeze it and then take it out of the freezer in the morning and let it thaw for your daily intake. perhaps starting the day with water only till noon? i often do this when i'm fasting.
but the great thing about fasting is... you get to make your own choices and there are no rules! so enjoy! :)
i highly recommend jeremy safron's book and angela stokes as well. i'll give you a link to both:

Beckx - do you juice only carrots and spinach together to get the chocalate milk taste? How much of each to you add?

i know, i always forget about it because i usually juice with the vitamix and carrot juice in it tastes awful to me.
livin, its just carrot and spinach... i never measure anything i prepare, juices especially, but i'd say for your first time making it run a big bunch of spinach through the juicer, then fill the rest of your cup with carrot juice. you don't get a ton of juice out of greens, so you could alternate them with carrots too to get the most out of them but carrots are definitely the base. i bet you could do more spinach if you want without changing the taste too much as spinach is very mild.
hope you like it!
Well we ended up quitting by the end of the third day. I got very depressed over the fact that my cousin was leaving for boot camp and so I fixed myself some pasta. I didn't pick it back up but I definitely want to start juicing again. I will be getting some recipes from work and start drinking some juice once a day while increasing my raw intake.
