And yes, it deserves its own exclamation point since it's my first thread ever! Yay! Ahem:
I currently have a Nesco dehydrator and was wondering the following things:
1. What is the difference between a fruit roll sheet and a Clean-A Screen?
2. Are either really needed/strongly recommended or are they pointless extras?
Thanks,
~ Josh

Hi Josh,
Nesco was my first-ever dehydrator...still have it along with my Excalibur.
To answer your questions:
1. The 'fruit roll tray' is like the "teflex" of the Excalibur. It is a smooth, thin tray that fits right onto your dehydrator trays and doesn't allow things to spill through such as the liquid for fruit rolls.
The 'clean-a-screen' is like the mesh sheet that Excaliburs have. They are great for when you want to make something that requires air circulation to the food, yet you do not want it to fall through the larger cracks of the main trays such as grawnola, for example.
2. I would say that the fruit roll trays are a definite plus. You can get away with using parchment paper, etc. but just consider the awkward shape and having to try and cut out and fit that to the trays. So, if anything, definitely order a couple of packs (there are 2 in a pack) of fruit roll trays. The clean-a-screens I would say are more optional...I don't own any (just read up on them enough when I was heavy into using my Nesco) and I did just fine without...although I may purchase some just to try them out.

Thank you for the quick response! I will be purchasing the fruit roll sheets then. It sounds like from my reading that the teflex sheets for the Excalibur are necessities so, the fruit roll sheets will be bought. On the other hand I have never heard of the Excalibur mesh sheets so, it should be alright passing on the Clean-A Screens.
Thanks again.
