WElcome, I am new too but I can tell you what I am doing so far.

In the moring I make a Green Smoothie out of Kale and bananas and strawberries and a littlw water with my Blentec! Love it!

During the day I will have salad with spiniach, tomatoes, carrots, red pepers, sweet onion, cuccumber, and I put Raw Salsa on it!

then maybe a banana later on handful of almonds

I am making the fetuccini alfredo tonight and my husband made Raw Cacoa Ice cream today that was to "live" for!

:D

Begin by purchasing Alissa's book and dvd's. Her book is HUGE and well worth the price. It will answer almost all your questions; give you over 300 recipes; and more! The dvd's will show you how very easy it is to create healthy, tasty, raw food for yourself and those you love.

Hey helen :) Books about raw vegan diet are definitely very helpful. Revvell did already tell you about Alissa's book. You can get lots of interesting books about raw foodism: Norman Walker and Doug Graham wrote some great books as well.

Enjoy your start and take care, Eva

Don't wait until the new year, try a few days beforehand so you know what you are up against, and to give your body a little time so it doesn't freak out so bad in the beginning.

Buy fruits and vegetables.
Eat them.

Easy as that.

To just go raw cold turkey truly is an achievement. Unfortunately for most people, they can't keep it up and ending up deviating back to the world of cooked food. If you believe you have that strong a will then by all means go 100% raw. If, however, you don't believe you can stick with it, transfer slowly, becoming 5% more raw each week. Then, by about May you will be completely raw.

Hi Coole,

Thanks for your reply much appreciated. I agree with you it's a big step, but i've geared up my mind since watching a tv program on people eating raw fruit and veg and i feel it's time i give it a go, i already eat healthy i never eat tins, or ready cook meals, i went cold turkey on giving up smoking over night 3 years ago and have never smoke since, so i can go cold turkey with raw, apart from needing to loose 5 stones i need to get my blood pressure back to normal, i was brought up very regimented so discipline plays a big part in my life, there is no going back once my mind is made up thats it, i know it's easier said than done but i am already in my mind eyes picturing the bad days and dealing with it, there is no if and buts i am afraid lol.

i will start on the 1st of Jan 09, i am going to take a before picture and one on every 1st of every month until i reach my target, i shall share my experience in this forum.

thanks

That's a great plan! :)
It's not as hard as it seems, you don't need to be "strong".......all you need is just to be convinced of this new lifestyle, that's all. Have fun, Eva

My advice: Focus on it not being such a big step, but simply visualizing yourself being successsful, enjoying experimenting with recipes if you take it that far and just learning. Raw is fun. And some people do not experience detox at all. If you do, it will probably go in cycles - every few weeks or months or you might get it over with in one fell swoop.

I personally had more success just jumping in 100%. I disagree that it takes a strong will only. I think there are probably a million reasons why someone can do 100% successully right of the bat. For me it was being totally committed to being raw. Once you have your core goal in place, it really is not that difficult. This special place is different for everyone. For me it had everything to do with my health and wanting to experience truly exceptional health. The weight loss and other benefits were really secondary.

I was at total rock bottom, so raw was easy for me to transition to. I immediately felt better healthwise and once I attained that feeling, I felt great and I just kept eating raw. I read a lot of the raw food books out there including Alissa Cohen's book. I was inspired by transformations on raw blogs and played with my food. Literally. There are so many ways you can make this work and I'm sure you will find your way soon enough or eventually.

Really it's not that hard. Just give yourself a lot of breathing room and be kind to yourself. Everything you experience along the way, including eating cooked or experiencing other temporary detours is simply part of the learning experience. Just get back to eating raw 100% with your next meal if this happens. Take it one day at a time and eat in the present. :)

We all have different experiences with this. Just sharing mine and not at all knocking any of the advice and experiences already shared.

Best wishes to you & Happy New Year!

Crystal

Helen, just a quick addendum to what I posted earlier: what can be challenging is dealing with the social aspects of changing your lifestyle. I don't want to paint the picture that everything is always rosey, because it can get rough at times. But once you retain that high level of commitment and know that you're doing this for yourself and not trying to fit into some else's program or idea of what is healthy it's much easier. I also found that once I totally accepted myself and my choice to be a raw foodist, I received less flack from my friends and family. They began to accept it and my choices as well. It's all about how you feel about yourself and the vibe you put out there in my opinion and in my experience.

Good luck & have fun.
