Well it's that time again! I'm starting another extended fast. Saturday December 27th 2008 is my start date. (edited to change date as I was going to start on Sunday.)

I'll be doing a mix of juice fasting and water fasting this time around. Nothing specific on the menu. No specific amount of time either, but I hope to fast between 45-90 days although I'm not holding myself to that 'goal' - rather I'll be listening to my body and fasting for as long as it chooses to.

I am hoping to do a single or double shot of wheatgrass daily. My wheatgrass juicer should be here anytime now so I'll begin when it arrives. My last extended fast was all fruit juices so we'll see where this one takes me. I have three pineapples, some carrots, beets and apples ready to go in the fridge.

I'm hoping to do yoga daily and rebound as well - but I'm a huge believer that my energy must first go to cleansing and healing and then any extra energy can go to working out... so I'll be taking this day by day.

I do have a couple of fasting commitments and I'll state them here:

The commitment I make to myself is:

I will not break my fast on a bad day.
I have to be experiencing a good day to break it.

I will not break this fast today.
I can break it the day after tomorrow, but not today.

(This way... I won't break the fast on a whim... I will only break the fast after pondering it for a few days.)

I will meditate at least twice a day - even if it's only for a few minutes. Finding time for Self during a fast (for me) is essential and this is one way I am able to do this.

These are the promises I make to my Self for my fast.

I'd love to have some fasting buddies. Anyone wanna join me?

Good morning Aleesha! Yesterday was the day I told myself: tomorrow is a good day to break my water fast and go back to juice. I was right. My body was screaming for nutrition. Never mind Dr. Shelton, my stomach was growling most of yesterday. I was so weak this morning, I had a hard time walking upright and feeding the two beasts was a chore. So I'm back to juice, about a quart a day along with water. First thing I did was make chamomile tea to prepare my stomach for something different. My juice was apple/carrot/beet/tomato/turnip. Have to start using all those free veggies. So far my fast lasted 29 days, 21 juice, 8 water. I will continue with juice until the end of the year, which will bring the total to 35 days, a full 5 weeks. I have never dreamed of fasting that long. This morning I weighed 138.5 pounds. I will break the juice fast on Jan. 1 with green smoothies and more juice and hope to start adding simple green salads. By the second January week I'll reward myself with rye bread and sauerkraut, something I've been fantasizing about, LOL. Something I started doing from the start of this fast is journaling. I've never been able to stick to it, but really enjoy it now.
Alright, Fasting Queen, I'll be with you for the short haul!

I always water them down with warm water, because I detest freezing cold stuff. Cold takes all the flavors away.

Starting '09 with some fasting as well. The "plan" is green smoothie, then juice, perhaps water fasting if lead that way, back to juice and then back to smoothin' before hitting raw. Have had a horrible few months with SAD and ready to get to feeling better.

Will you be posting something daily? I'm ready.

emma, melissa and grits... let's RAWK this fast!

And roo! :D I'm still fasting! I think this is day 24. The last 3 days have been pretty bad for me. Baaaaad stomach cramps and diarrhea. Has that happened to anyone here juice fasting? It's much better now, but not gone. It really turned me off my green juices. I threw a few jars away. I hated doing that but I just couldn't drink them. I've been on herbal tea and a little cranapple for 3 days. I'm feeling pretty wiped out. I did try fresh ginger tea last night for the first time and it helped a lot. I LOVED the taste and the spiciness too. It settled my stomach and allowed me to fall asleep easier. By this afternoon, I was feeling bad again. I should have done it sooner but I do have some brewing right now. I've been thinking of going water only for a day or two to see what that is like and since my stomach is not happy right now, I think tomorrow would be a good day to start that. Unless any veteran fasters think that would be a bad idea? I just want these cramps gone, whatever it takes. :(

But anyway, even with a little water fasting thrown in the mix, I'll be back on juice soon and participating in this thread! I love you guys. I always look forward to reading the fasting threads! :)

Aleesha, you could REALLY show a little more enthusiasm!

Won't get any BM stories out of me, because I haven'd had any since the 29th of November, the 3rd day of my juice fast. It's sort of like periods, you don't miss them when you don't have them.:D

Aleesha Sattva

really? i have bms a LOT while fasting. perhaps have a nice big glass of freshly made apple juice... always gets things moving for me.

and yes... i guess you can tell i'm just a little excited LOL

Ilse W.
12-27-2008, 12:56 AM
I'm not worried about the BMs. Shelton and a couple other doctors who supervised thousands of fasts said that most people do not have BMs on water fasts. My juice fast only includes 1 qt. a day of strained juice and lots of water. Also, I've used 2 T of psyllium in water a day for a long time and was pretty clean already, so no residual stuff. My bum wipes are taking a rest.:D

Aleesha Sattva
12-27-2008, 12:58 AM
i hear ya... i don't worry about it either... but i feel like my body wants to move something out... i use a nice big litre jug of apple juice and within about 30 minutes i'm on the toilet moving it out!!!

roo

I wonder if apple juice could have caused my stomach ache and diarrhea this week? I had been drinking quite a bit. I had lots of it in everything. Hmmm. Or maybe I was just doing some serious repair there. My stomach and intestines are definitely the weak link in my body. I read from a fasting Dr yesterday that the stomach lining is completely replaced by the 4th day of a water fast. Incredible if true! I need that.

I'm starting my water fast today. I'd love to go 5 days, but we'll see. Being my first one I have no idea how I'm going to feel. :confused: I may only go one. I wonder if water fasting becomes as addicting as juice fasts do? After being on solids for a month or two I can't wait to get back to juices only. I can completely relate to your excitement today Aleesha! I always feel like that when I'm starting a new juice fast!

I'm excited for everyone who is joining in!! Looks like this thread will be a busy place! :)

Started my juice fast today as I have fallen off the wagon with the holidays and eaten nothing but SAD. I feel awful. Grumpy, tired and my mood swings are off the planet so all the bad food in the house is gone. I'm going to do a 30 day juice and water fast along with walking on the treadmil at least 4 days a week. Plus, I will add journaling and medatation in the mornings. Here's to all of us :) Stacy

Aleesha, or anyone else who might have experience with this, have you ever frozen your tomato juice? I have a few tomatoes that will go bad while I water fast if I don't use them up. If you have tried this successfully, what else did you add to it? I have some celery, cuke, basil, lemon, lime, and spinach left if you think any of that would work in it?

Thanks!

PS: It's only 10:30 and I'm starving!! :( This water fasting may be even harder than I thought. :rolleyes:

I always have warm water in my old coffee cup sitting next to me and every time my stomach growls, I take a couple of sips. Pretty soon your stomach will quit rumbling. I did run out of energy really fast though, probably because I had already been onn juice for 3 weeks before the water fast.
Tomatoes: I have a freezer full of chopped tomatoes in baggies that I will thaw out and use in marinara sauce or tomato soup. I also have juices in jars in there, just any type of juice. Mix whatever you like together.

I've had just under a quart of warm water so far this morning. Holy Moly, hunger pangs! :eek: And with being sick the last few days I was only having hot herbal tea with lemon, fresh ginger tea, water, and a little bit of cranberry/apple. I guess the fruit was enough to keep me from feeling this hungry. Of course I was feeling very sick, so that was probably a big factor. I've been on juice just over 3 weeks so I'll probably be mimicking your experience Emma. However I don't think I'll be water fasting nearly as long as you did.

I was just reading the super fat burning juice thread and cannot wait to try that recipe! Yum! I love cranberries! That will probably be one of my first juices when I break the water fast.

Thanks for the info on freezing the tomato juice. Hopefully I'll have enough energy today to do that. :o If not, I'll just chop and freeze them.

Thanks!

Good afternoon everyone.

I have started my fast today with the super fat burning juice. I think it works because I have been semi fasting the past 3 days and have lost 3.6 lbs. Today I used ginger instead of cayenne, i just juiced it. it's so yummy.

I will have lots of water and some veggie juice. I have carrots, kale, cucumber, celery, parsley. Later I will have tomato juice with cumin and cayenne. I think I remember Aleesha talking about this on one of her fasts. This is what I am craving so I will have it for "dinner".

Aleesha, I saw the new Fasting Bandits thread yesterday and was so pleased to Sea how you have taken up the FB torch. I Sea also that you have attracted some new FB members. :)

You have a gift for leadership.

I hope to be beginning a fast soon. It's so colddddddddddddddd right now. How do ya do it?

I do hope that our dear FB regulars join in on the convoy this time around.

if you choose to freeze tomato juice make sure it's only tomato with nothing else. the pure juice tastes fine when defrosted but if there's any spices (cayenne etc) or other juices in there... it tastes horrid. so juice it up and freeze it alone. :)

roo when i'm feeling hungry i drink a LOT of water. lots of it. as much as i can and then i keep on drinking a huge glass or two everytime i pee. this keeps my body 'full' and flushing out the yuck happens quick... with all that water moving through me.

welcome stacy!!!

my tomato blend is: tomatoes, lime, (something green like cilantro) and then curry, cayenne and some smoked sea salt. mmm mmm goood. i lived on this for weeks. it was my 'dinner' every night.

fg, i wear layers! i have long underwear which i wear under polar fleece pjs. this really keeps me warm. i also take a spoon of honey if i'm cold. of course drinking a nice ginger tea or simply hot water with a lemon or lime wedge.

and if i just can't warm up... i get into the bath and warm my body up really well. this usually keeps me warm for a couple of hours!

okay... so today is my start date and i woke up soooooooo excited. *giggling* i'm totally into this fast and happy and blissed out to be doing it.

so far this morning i've drank 1 litre of water. i plan on doing water for most of the day and have a nice apple/pear/ginger thawing on the counter. when i get some grapefruits i'll try some of that fat burning juice. IF i like it, i'll drink it, if i don't... i won't bother. i only juices i like when i fast. i always focus on loving what i'm doing while fasting... it makes it easier for me.

what's that? oh my three gorgeous pineapples are humming in the fridge waiting for me to juice them up. "soon my little friends... soon!"

Here I am, ET, ER, FG. lol Which do you prefer? I know FG! or maybe Papa Bear?

A Bandit regular at your service. So I talked to my sister, Aleesha last night and we had this all planned out just right, we would begin on Sunday. I so wanted to start today, but no! I had to wait for her. So as I begin reading here in this moment, here she is starting today. I mean really girlfriend, it is a very lucky thing that I have not yet ate this day EH??? I will drive up there ya know. I will, I will.

So the fast begins TODAY!(Whateva) I will start today. and as usual I have no plans on how long I will take it. I do not count the days, and I drink what my body asks for during these healing days. The reason I do not bother with counting my days is because fasting is not about the number of days, you could be spending your time concentrating on healing your body. For me, it is not a contest. However someone I love always knows what day I am on and I appreciate that. Ha ha you already know who ya all are...

So the two FASTING DIVAS are doing it together, from the get go. YAY I have not yet met another that can keep up with me during a fast, but my Sister is catching me, she is a grooving in the fast lane. (can U tell that I am a bit bitter this morning, lol lol) I dunno? I will get over it after my walk this morning.

Last fast 152 days. Current fast - It is still a mystery...

Love to all
Melissa

So I tried to go for a walk, it is soooooooo... very cold here. As a desert dweller I guess I prefer the heat. No walk until it warms up it is 30 degrees in this moment. A jumping (re bounding) I will go with my little one.

So far today it has been warm water, we have no heater in this ole house. lol

Reading about the benefits of fasting is a must to do while you begin any fast. IMO It really gets you into the swing of fasting and is exhilarating as well. Especially during those first three days. I guess I will pull a bit of H.S. words off my shelf today, sit in the corner of my comfy couch and warm up to my new laptop, yup you read it right I am somebody I have a laptop. It is used in fact my Mom got a new one, so it is her old one. BUT I am so loving it! It is "freedom" on a grander scale for me.

I just got done juicing three pineapples, so a sipping I am doing, treating it like a warm glass of love!

I too one day will get me one of those "raw puters" (giggling my evil giggle)

Apple juice sounds good to me, warm apple juice sounds especially nice. However just AP makes my tummy upset. Green apples and curly parsley is my favorite juice ever!

FG I am assuming it is cold there too. I could use some long skivvies myself, but I refuse, In this moment a jacket would be nice. We had no idea how cold it would get here on top of our desert mountain. Lessons we will deal with I guess.....

I like doing this because then Alex "thinks" that I am eating with him. He does not like when Mom does not eat.

What I drank today:
2 large glasses of water
1 cup of warm dandelion tea
2 large glasses of pineapple juice
1 large glass of water with liquid green
Juice of 10 oranges
MSM
Kelp powder

Exercise:
Re-bounding
Yoga

Off for a Hot Tubby

We have talked about it and he knows the great benefits of detoxing, he just worries because I am already pretty thin and when fasting I loose a little bit a weight along with the detox. Dinner is at my Dad's house every day so not letting him know I am fasting would be pretty much impossible so it is just so much easier to fast while he is on his vacations.

Day one is down. I was able to nap during the day but still have a pretty bad headache. My intake today was:

6 glasses of master cleanse lemonades
8 glasses of water
1 large smooth move tea

i'm looking at monday to start, got some pea shoots and cherries i'm interested in chewing before i get into this business. i just got a beautiful glass birthday pitcher, what timing.

aleesha, i wanted to ask about the juice freezing... do you do it in mason jars? how fast do you use them once they're frozen? how long does it take to thaw? fridge or counter? i'm intrigued; seems like it would make my life easier to freeze 18 jars or something once a week.

anyway i'll report here monday. ;) have a juicy sunday everyone.

Make sure when you use mason jars to leave at least an inch or slightl more at the top. The juice expands as it freezes. I didn't leave enough space in some of my watermelon juice jars and it oozed out and made a mess in the freezer. Well, I guess that's better than busted jars.

hmm, thanks for the heads up emma... does the freezing change the taste or texture at all? or effect certain juices more than others?

So far I've only had the watermelon juice. It might have changed the taste just slightly. A better person to ask would be Aleesha, she freezes a lot of juices of any type.

It was August here in the Desert and very HOT, I began throwing my fruit juice into the freezer, because it was so very good when it was so cold and slushy. When I mentioned this to my Sister, Aleesha she began doing the same thing.

Keep in mind that when you do this on a daily basis, it does take away nutrients you need while fasting. So as I always say Fresh Is Best! When you make watermelon juice you always have a ton of it, so heck ya freeze a few liters of it, it comes in handy when you are on the go. Pineapple and just tomato juice is good frozen too. Those three are all that I have ever frozen. I cannot imagine any vegetable juice frozen, not sure if it will change the flavor or not.

A new day is upon us, its much warmer today (looks warmer) The sun is shining and I am off for a walk.

Have a wonderful day!

that's tomorrow!!! yippeeeeee i looooooooooove fasting with you beckx *does a happy dance around the room*

okay juice freezing. i've done prune plum, apple, apple/pear/ginger, watermelon, watermelon with berries (like blueberry or strawberry), pineapple, pineapple with strawberries, tomato, and then straight cucumber juice.

all of these tasted the same as fresh (at least to me) and the only real change was that the pear really thickened up. so what i do is:

freeze them in mason jars 500 ml or 1L and leave an inch at the top for expansion.
when i defrost i either leave them in the fridge on a tea towel (as they sweat), set them on the counter if i need them sooner OR if i need them in the next 30 minutes, i set them in a bowl of hot water (not above 110 degrees) and change the water once or twice to keep the juice defrosting.

once i open the juices - as i'm totally into warmer juices right now the cold ones just chill me waaaaaaay too much - i add really warm water to the juice, stir (with a glass straw) and drink some... add more warm water, stir again and sip some more... i keep doing this till the juice is at the point that anymore water will make it taste yucky. this completes the defrosting (if needed) and gives me a nice warm tummy.

i froze the juices originally to drink within the week or two but honestly i'm still trudging through some blends from a few months ago and they are still tasting great. i wouldn't leave them too long myself, but at this point i'd drink them (even with a lower nutritional value than fresh) rather than waste them. i juiced these up when the bounty was high in august - october so these juices would be left over from the october juicing.

i try to make sure that any juice i defrost is drank within the day. occasionally i've forgotten about a juice - but i still drink it and it tastes great (of course that's IN the fridge not on the counter)

hmm, thanks for the heads up emma... does the freezing change the taste or texture at all? or effect certain juices more than others?

i am not fond of the tomato juice after it's been frozen. so i'm leaving that for my hubby's savoury smoothies.

oh yes emma... i surely do. i will be again during this fast. it just makes my life easier. i'd rather spend an afternoon doing up a bunch of juice and then simply taking them out on a daily basis. i usually end up doing a fresh juice a day anyway... tomato or perhaps a nice kiwi/apple blend etc. so it's not that i'm doing 100% frozen juices but even if i was, i wouldn't worry about it. i figure i'm still getting waaaaaaaaaaaay more nutrition than most people. for me it's not about perfection... it's about flow. and this allows my day to flow easier and this pleases me greatly!

~~~
so i woke up today 4 pounds lighter than yesterday LOL how's that for motivation!!! i'm going to take today just like yesterday. i'll do water until i feel i need to do juice. if that's today great, if not then i'll continue with the water.
i meditated already and did a little yoga breathing exercises. now i'm cuddled up on the couch with my laptop catching up on emails. ahhh the house is soooo quiet. i love it. (well other than the sounds of water from the fishtanks)
have a glorious day everyone!
Hi Liss (((hugs)))
I totally agree with Melissa on this but I also have the philosophy that if the only way someone can juice fast is by freezing their juices first... then use the frozen juices.
I have a friend who has a juicer but it's not a good one. So she comes over here and uses my Champion for the afternoon. She freezes all her juices and then does a 10 day fast. Sometimes she runs out of juices and comes again to make more - but she's pretty much sustained on frozen juices. Since her only alternative is to not fast... I figure this is waaaaaaaay better than not fasting at all.
I do believe that occasionally she uses her little juicer to make a blend during the day - but I'm not sure about that.
A few may wanna diss the concept. But I agree.. drinking frozen juice is light years ahead of not fasting at all. :cool:
WOW!! Fresh pineapple juice is sooooo delicious! I had to cut it with a little water but still, so yummy!
The tomato juice really hits the spot too when I want something spicy. Had it last night. YUM!
Today I havent had much juice but lots and lots of water. I also worked out at the gym for an hour and 45 minutes. I started with 10 min on the stairmaster. I didn't think I would make it but then I did 15 min on the treadmill and 15 on the eleptical. I did some strength training after that. Felt great, lots of energy.
I want to throw a question out there - do you think it's bad to do strenuous exercise when fasting? I have heard of rebounding and yoga and maybe light strenght training. Just wanted to hear your opinions.
Of course if I feel dizzy I would stop working out so hard.
Aleesha Sattva
12-28-2008, 05:01 PM
it's up to the individual. if you are fasting to heal a dis-ease then i think it's a bad idea because you want to use your energy for healing rather than building muscle.
so, first you need to choose what your priority is and then go from there. what do you want the energy your body has available working on?
once you answer that question you know whether or not to work out. (or work out so hard)
Green Diva
12-28-2008, 05:09 PM
Thanks for your quick response Aleesha
I know you're not supposed to fast to release weight but that is really my main purpose. I do not mind the healing and detox but right now my main thing is weight loss.
Working out helps me releive stress too. I don't have as many anxiety attacks when I work out. I have been having lots and lots lately. I know I will go throught emotional detox as well as I have when fasting in the past (even thought my longest fast was 5 days).
Aleesha Sattva
12-28-2008, 05:54 PM
Ah then go ahead and work out. Just be careful that if you get dizzy to take it easy. You know your body and I'm sure you are more than capable of working out and fasting.
Who says you can't fast to release weight? What do they know LOL You CAN do whatever you wish. Is it the best way to keep weight off... nope. But to get yourself where you wanna be... nothing wrong with it at all. (within reason of course)
Sounds like working out is a very good thing for you. :)
Well last night was a rough one. We had terrible weather, my tummy hurt, my hips were a hurting and I felt like total poo poo, that made for terrible sleeping.
This morning I got up and felt pretty good- headache is gone but have a sore throat.
I did my salt water flush this morning as I would normally do on a master cleanse but since I did not feel hungery today I stayed with water all day. Since it is now 7 pm central time I am going to stop with the intake and get ready for sleeping as I did not nap today during the day.
Nice soak in the whirlpool should assist with sleep tonight.
Hope everyone had a great day! I am excited to see what tomorrow brings.
Aleesha and Melissa I hope you have a better day tomorrow! Sleep well!
I'm finishing up my second day of water fasting. It has been surprisingly easy. Early yesterday I was very hungry, but today hasn't been too bad. I've been sipping mugs of warm water all and taking it easy. Some dry skin brushing, a little (very little) rebounding, and now I'm headed for 30 minutes in the sauna and then a shower. I always sleep so good when I have a sauna at night. Mmmmm Sleep! :)
Be well everyone! (((hugs)))
My tummy was fine within a few minutes... just overwhelmed at the quantity of fluid I think (more than the juice)... since it was 2L of fluids. What was I thinking? LOL
I'm not sure what I'll do tomorrow... I'll start with water and see where it takes me. I'm cool doing either water or juice although to be honest, if I continue this huge weight release than I may stay with water a little longer simply because of that.
I am interested in downing some cranberry juice to be honest... but I know those lovely frozen berries will wait for me :)
I got the rebounder out today, because my muscle tone sucks. I was surprised how easy it was. I could not have rebounded last week on water, I had a time just dragging myself from living room to kitchen, probably a whole 20 feet. My upper back is in a lot of discomfort, I'm sure from the combination of non-exercised muscles and sitting most of the day. That has to change. I certainly have a whole lot more energy on a quart of juice a day than just water. I've been making my shopping list this afternoon so I have stuff in the house on Thursday when I get to eat again. I'm looking sooooo forward to my first warm tomato miso soup and sauerkraut nori roll. That one has to wait a few days, I think I'll stick to simple green salads and soups for a few days. I can't believe I will have fasted 35 days, 5 whole weeks by Wednesday. I never really planned on a timeline, I just knew I wanted to heal my eyes (which are loads better) and in the process lose weight, and not spend moneyy on food in December. (I lose weight, Aleesha, because I figure if I release it, it might decide it liked my body better than anyplace else and just move right back in. I am very good at losing stuff and never finding it again :D.) I looked at myself this morning before taking a shower and was absolutely amazed that I was looking at a 58 year old body. I would say I still have another 20 lbs. of fat to lose and 10-12 lbs. of muscle to gain. That will come out just about right. It's all the great support I get here on the board, and especially in the "Fasting" area. You folks are great and I love you all (of course especially Aleesha)!
So happy for you. They're fantastic for everything but wheatgrass. And powerful. Oh, they can bog on celery, kale or any stringy veg, so you just have to clean it out every few minutes when juicing those, but that takes only seconds to do. I can't think of anything easier to clean except maybe a citrus juicer. There is a blank that goes in, in place of the screen for making great nut butters. If you don't have it, it should be easy to get from Champion. Use a brush to clean the reamer. Enjoy! :p
Thank you for the sweet comment Liss. :) Congrats on getting the new juicer! What an awesome gift!
Aleesha, I hear ya about sticking to water while losing so much weight. I was losing about a 1/2 pound a day on juice and on two days of water I lost SIX pounds! :eek: I was floored when I woke up this morning and saw that. I'm a little tired and missing juice but with my weight loss jumping like that I'm very happy to stay on water for a bit. I've officially passed the 100 lb weight loss mark now! About 55 of that in this past year with raw and fasting. Tis a wonderful thing! But weight loss aside, I know I still have some health issues that water fasting should help improve so I'm going to keep at it for a bit.
Emma, have you ever tried a Danskin weighted toning ball? I use one when I'm sitting watching TV and sometimes I get up and do the full routine on the DVD and I have to say that little ball is very helpful in gaining arm, upper back, and core strength. For someone who isn't used to working out much, I think they are a great start on gaining strength and toning up. I got mine (6lbs) at Walmart and it came with a DVD. I think it was about twelve dollars.
Melissa, I also had a rough night. I had bathroom issues all night. Hopefully tonight will be better for the both of us. (((hugs)))
Stacy, cranberry and orange sounds fantastic! I have 4 frozen bags and 4 frozen cranapple jars waiting for me when I go back to juice. I think I'll make the next batch with oranges instead of apples. Yum!!
Have a great day everyone! :)
Good morning everyone! I have some really cool stats to share with you all:
Measurements for Day 1: December 27th 2008 - Size 8 pants
Body Fat % - 46.5
Total Body Water % - 40.0
Muscle Mass % - 27.5
BMI - 28.7
BMR (Kcal) - 1468
Weight - 165.4
Measurements for Day 3: December 29th 2008
Body Fat % - 44.1
Total Body Water % - 41.1
Muscle Mass % - 28.2
BMI - 27.4
BMR (Kcal) - 1435
Weight - 158.0... release of 7.4 pounds *no BMs during this time so weight released is fat not feces or water as the water % has increased*
My body fat % dropped 2.4 and my water went up 1.1 and my muscle mass has increased.
I did these measurements because so many people say you are only releasing (or for Emma losing LOL) water weight when you first begin to fast or diet. Here's a little proof that this is NOT the case.
I'm going to stick with water again today... at this moment anyway. We'll see what today brings me cause honestly, it doesn't matter to me if I do juice today... just going to listen to my body. After all, I have weeks to water fast during this fast... listening to what my body needs is much more important. ;)
Oh and I had a bowel movement today after my weight in. A nice long well formed one. Dark brown in colour. *grinning from ear to ear* Anyone else poop today?
Hi everyone!! I am on the 3rd day of my master cleanse, and this is the second time I have done it. I have no idea how long I will do it, I'm just gonna wait and see what the bod says!
Started on the 27th, so I was with all you bandits without even knowing it! Looking forward to hearing about everyone's progress- I am so happy I feel like Im going to burst out of my skin, and I have endless energy...
I want a fancy scale- I have one from my grandparents that looks like it should be in a MD's office---but it works so Im happy!
With juice fasting- how well would that go with a very physical job- I do go-go dancing-- oh yeah crazy white boots and all--so Ive always been nervous about juice fasting, the MC works perfectly for me
MelissaO
12-29-2008, 02:16 PM
I have tried juices only over the weekends and feel ok when I am doing it. I do not have a really good juicer so to me it is more of pain than the master cleanse where I only use my hand juicer to juice the lemons.
I have also done a few mastercleanse and for me that cleanse gets more detox symptoms. I started this cleanse as a master cleanse for the first day and now have done water only for the past 2 days. My goal for water only is 3 days - depends on my vital signs and how my body reacts.
You could always try it out on your off time and see how it goes, if it does not work for you why not switch over to MC.
Glad you are aboard! I love your avatar BTW. I have 4 of my own :D
freespirit, i've only done MC once several years ago, but i'd imagine you'd get more energy with a juice fast because you're getting more calories. not sure, though, and every body is different.
i'm having a really lazy first fasting day. been drinking lots of water, and just drank some delicious cataloupe strawberry juice... nearly a quart. i'll probably have some green juice later. i'm planning on pilates class tonight and possibly a short run or maybe just a walk - i'll see how my energy is.
ok. for a person who hasn't drank or smoked, i'm going through all kinds of pain again... my neck, head & left eye -- PAIN! i know it'll pass though. right now, i'm tilting my head to the left to alleviate the neck pain and resting my head every chance i get. i also feel like hurling. :eek: i must be dispelling something vicious. :o
an enema is sounding really appealing at the moment. :p
and i'm wondering if it has anything to do with my fast or moving where i sleep. i may experiment with going back to sleep in my room. i went to sleep in the living room, b/c it's been so cold in my room.
oh and i'm also deciding on which tea kettle to get my mom. i got her a porcelain one but am now thinking about getting a stainless steel or glass one? anyone know which is better? :p
i have no idea how much weight i've lost, but hm... i'm really thankful for belts! my tops go down way pass my toosh! they're fashionable as dresses now. hm....
well i did water today. i went out to a friend's for tea today (a lovely ginger tea) - got home had some water.. more water and then a little honey. (raw ginger/garlic honey) and then later i wanted something more so i had two blood oranges and 1/2 a lime. it made about 1/2 a cup of juice so i added another cup of water and sipped it. it was yummy. blood oranges are more tart (at least these ones were) than normal oranges.
i do feel kinda sugared out though, between the juice and the honey. i'll do another litre of water and then call it a day. ;)
Night, Beckx Glad you pooed today! *giggling*
I did it, I used the champion and it worked beautifully! I am doing the "Happy Rippie Dance" How Cool is Brandon. I Love him! I did not until now, realize what a pain in the ass juicing with my VM is.
So, in this very moment we are all chugging back fresh canteloupe juice. Yummy! I had a triple shot of wheatgrass juice, 3 liters of pure water, and the juice from 8 oranges. Took my MSM and Kelp (Iodine). I did re-bounding for 45 minutes, walked 6 miles and did Yoga for 30 minutes. Then Alex and I Poi danced for awhile. I pooed too Beckx. All in all I had a fantastic day!
I had an awsome dark red grape juice today. Grapes on sale at 88 cents/lbs. I juiced them all right away and now have 2 qt. jars in the fridge. I made some horrible juice this morning, that is, the carrots were really small and very bitter. They come right out of the organic field down the street, and I think it's just too late for them to still grow and get sweet. I threw out half the cup this morning. This afternoon I put in a little hot water to heat it up and drank it straight down without breating. I can't afford to waste food. I still have another pint jar full for later tonight, ugh. By this time I'm really looking forward to eating, although I'm not hungry at all. I might add a green smoothie to my juice the next two mornings, just to get my body a little jump start on the fiber thing. I spent the last 2 hours cutting and pasting kimchi recipes, now I have to decide on one and just make it. I have sauerkraut in the fridge, I can start with that and populate the old colon. Kimchi will take about 4 days before I can start on it.
Sounds like everyone had a pretty good day.
Melissa, so wonderful about your Champion, you deserve it.
Emma, congrats on 5 weeks, you are awesome!
Roo, 100 lbs! That is so very inspiring to me as I still have some weight to "release". I release, never to be seen again.
Aleesha, glad to hear about your poo. I don't post much about mine but I do so love reading about others. I had a great one today too, I can tell it was old matter that was making my tummy bloated and now it's gone!
MelissaO hope you sleep better tonight.
If I left anyone out I am sorry, it's late and I am tired having just gotten out of a hot bath after taking a wonderful Zumba class.
I had delicious tomato, cilantro, celery juice with sea salt and cumin. I will have to try to find the smoked sea salt, sounds yummy.
Good night all, sleep well.
** Edit ** I did notice today how bright my eyes looked. They are brown and I thougth they were so very sparkly today. A few hours later someone made the comment to me that my skin looked radiant and my eyes looked good, did I have on new make up? I told them it was from drinking FRESH JUICE!!
gd, i noticed yesterday (and today) that my skin looks sooooo good. i am glowing :D makes me so happy to see me looking like this again ;)
i got my smoked sea salt from ebay. just do a search and be sure to get the fine stuff unless you have a spare grinder available. it's soooo yummy on tomatoes or in tomato juice. i know mattye uses it in her bbq sauce.
i sucked the juice out of two blood oranges while i watched tv. it's obviously just what my body needed cause i am feeling more deeply connected to myself. never realized i lost my connection till it returned LOL
also got a new wheatgrass juicer in the mail today (yipppeeee) so i'll be buying a flat of wheatgrass for myself. i hope to grow my own but for now, i'll just buy a flat.
later gators.
Good morning fellow fasters. I hope everyone had a good night :) I am happy to report that my world is back to smelling normal. My cats are greatfull for this - yesterday I pretty much stayed hidden away in the bedroom where they are not allowed (bandit likes to make pee pee on the beds). I felt pretty bad about it but I just could not stand smelling anything including myself yesterday.
Today my plans are to intake only water for the day - it will be day 3 of water only for me! I am in awe at how well I am doing with only water. I am also a bit surprised that water fasting has been much easier for me than doing a master cleanse. I had lots of energy yesterday - enough to do a light work out on my pilates rebounder. I am still having a little trouble sleeping due to the surge of energy but hopefully my sleep cycle will return back to normal in the next few days.
Oh yes and Ms. Aleesha - I had a BM shortly after my work out yesterday. Nothing solid only water but it felt good that my bowls are still moving the toxins out.
Have a great day everyone - I will pop in later :)
ah good to hear everyone is doing well. I spelt really well last night... and am ready for the day! Can't wait to start on my daily wheatgrass shots... starting today!!!
I weighed myself again this morning... down to 156.4. I'm very pleased. I won't continue to weight myself daily - because I find it to be counterproductive anytime but especially while fasting. Getting too attached to the scale can cause me to wanna give up on fasting if and when it doesn't move. I've had plenty of those days during my fasting adventures. Often I don't release anything for days/weeks.
So... I'll weight myself again a week or so.
Have a GREAT day everyone...
Everyone... what colour is your tongue?
I had super fat burner juice this morning and for lunch I am having pear, kale and cucumber. Tonight I will have the yummy tomato cilantro mix again. Love it nice and spicy. (oh, and water water water!)
I did not sleep much last night. I was awake until about 4am. i kept getting up to pee every 30 min. That's not what was keeping me up though. I've had insomnia off and on for a long time. I am not tired today though. The few hours I did sleep i had very vivid dreams. They seemed so real. It was stuff that I was thinking about while trying to fall asleep. So weird. I like dreaming though.
No poo yet. I did take some colon cleanse herbs but nothing so far today.
Enjoy the rest of your day everyone.
It seems that everyone is having a few sleepless nights. I am as well. I went to bed last night, woke after only 20 minutes and was wide awake till 4:30AM. Went back to bed and woke again at 6. I feel great so far today, I have already gotten in all my exercise for the day, but will re-bound a few more times as usual. I like to do it several times a day for 10 minutes each time, otherwise it makes Alex nuts if I continue to jump for a long time ~ he wants his turn too!
I am drinking Spinach Carrot juice in this moment. When I read the post about this combo tasting just like chocolate milk I laughed out loud. It so does NOT! It tastes exactly like Spinach Carrot Juice. Still smiling about it. It is what it is, there is nothing resembling chocolate in there anywhere!
AnyHoo I am off for the afternoon, got business to take care of and a park that needs visiting. So much wonderful Sunshine to soak up too. We are sporting shorts today, it is a very warm, wonderful day!
PS I am sooooooooo LOVIN my new/used champion!
Until later ~ Liss
It's interesting how so many of us aren't sleeping well. As soon as I started with water only (4th day now), I have hardly been sleeping at all. I'm getting two hours here and there and it's making me feel pretty run down. I'm getting tons of reading done though. So that's at least something good from it. My dreams are usually quite vivid too and it cracks me up that sometimes I dream about stealing food. Always a recurring theme when I fast. :rolleyes:
I don't think I detox through my tongue as much as other people but it is getting a little whiter since changing to water. I must be in ketosis because my breath/mouth feels pretty foul. I read it's best not to use toothpaste while water fasting and I'm definitely missing that cool, clean feeling. I'm brushing with water but it hardly feels like much help.
I'm looking forward to juicing again, but for now I feel like the water fast is where I'm supposed to be. I think I can do at least another day. If I could just sleep it would be peachy! :)
All you fasters will be in my thoughts today! Take care! :cool:
Thanks Beckx- oh how I would love to sleep and stay asleep- I am sure it will return to normal soon. My body sometimes is wierd in the way it reacts. I have had my hair fall out in large amounts when there was death in the family, I lose sleep and sometimes lose appetite. It just needs time to freak out and then adjust.
Funny though I have fasted before with other methods and only this water on is sending my body into a state of sleepness. Oh well good to change things up a bit.
Aleesha - my tongue is wearing a lovely white coat today. Even with the twice a day oil pulling and me scrubbing some off with my toothbrush (habit) by the end of the day it returns back to white.
I went out to the store today to pick up something to make for my husband on New Years Eve. It will also be nice to just be alone with hubby and the kitties. New Years Eve is special to me - it was when my husband proposed to way back in the early 90's. I will never forget him getting down on bended knee and asking me to marry him. :)What a lucky gal I am.
So far today I have stuck to the plan and only have intaken water. I still feel like I have a cold and I have heartburn along with a little tummy ache.
I never get heartburn so I am not sure what that is about, it is kind of puzzeling to me that I have only been drinking water for the past 3 days but have heartburn today...any have any thoughts on that?
I have also been dreaming of food and I can even smell and taste it ...I dreamt about a young coconut and how buttery delishious it was. Melissa I've read from a couple of different sources that it is best not to introduce anything of taste into your mouth while water fasting. Apparently it starts the digestion juices. So no toothpaste, mouthwash, or oil, or anything other than water. It might explain the heartburn. By oil pulling you're stirring up those juices and they have nothing to work on. I think that makes sense. You might give up the oil pulling and see if the heartburn goes away. :)
My dreams are usually quite vivid too
I read it's best not to use toothpaste while water fasting and I'm definitely missing that cool, clean feeling. I'm brushing with water but it hardly feels like much help.
it amazes me how my dreams (and other fasters) get so vivid and weird while fasting. wonder what that's about eh? perhaps it's our mind detoxing.
as for brushing your teeth. i never use toothpaste. i use water or celtic sea salt. just a little on the brush. really helps your mouth feel clean AND if you get any canker sores while fasting (which is common) it clears them up quick!
i had a great poo when i got home today. i think it was the two double shots of wheatgrass i had. about 12" or more of poo in the toilet when i was done... soooo happy to see that outta my body!
no real detoxing going on that i'm aware of - so this is good (although detoxing is good too... i just find that because i fast so much, i seldom detox anymore). my tongue is a little white, nothing major though. i did have a huge crease in it last night though... not sure what that means although i know i read something about it before. anyone else know?
so today i consumed:
1 litre of water
500 ml of carrot/apple/ginger
2x double shots of wheatgrass
1L of freshly squeezed oj
my tummy is soooo full that i won't be having anything else today. that's enough!
Well my fellow fasters I am off for the night. I started the day off great but as this day grows older I have more cold like symptoms (blood shot eyes, runny and stuff nose - it is switching itself up to keep me guessing, and my throat feels like sand paper, oh yes and my legs they feel achy from the inside) . I feel very emotional today and the other detox symptoms are making me feel just plain icky. I had a short crying bout and then was wondering - gee should I drink more water to restore what I just released LOL
I accomplished all my errands today. Went to the grocery store, went to my Dad's to check on the birds (to make sure my brother is caretaking them), wrote out Dad's bills and posted them. Cooked dinner for my husband. I did stay with water all day today so I am happy about that. Water only certainly is drawing out more toxins and there are more detox symptoms. Normally detox symptoms are going away by now- I am wonder if not getting enough sleep is making things rougher.
And the BM report - there was some movement there but nothing of any abundance.
Hope everyone had a great day - see you all tomorrow.
he he he sounds like mucus making its way out of the bod to me.
I never really ever have any detox symptoms anymore, I fast more days than I actually spend eating during the year. That being said, this fast is really weird for me, in the fact that I am having some detoxification going on in here. lol I laugh because my diet and lifestyle have not changed at all, however i have been under a great deal of stress for much of this year. I am finding it really weird that the stress I am/have been experiencing has been held inside of my body and not released itself. I am in no way a stressful person by any means, but stress does exist. I am just rambling now. Anyhow I am having a let go of some mucus within my body. Now how can stress be stored as "crap" like this within me? Has anyone read anything about this? Experienced this before?
What I consumed this day:
Fresh OJ
Chlorella
MSM
Spinach carrot juice
3 large waters
2 oz wheatgrass
Kelp powder
and, and nope that is it for today.
I hope to do some sleeping tonight, although I am so full of energy that I am not sure that is possible. I wish I could package some of this excess energy up and send it to someone in need of it!
Off to so my skin brushing, a Hot salt tubby and relax for the rest of the evening.
My best to you all
One more day of juice fasting ahead. I had a quart of grape juice today and some water. Then I checked on my kimchi and couldn't help myself. I took a ladle and put about 1/2 cup of the juice into a bowl and ate it. I used some miso as a starter, and the whole thing is VERY hot. I loved it. It's juice, so no worries. I'm so excited about eating, but still not hungry. I feel that I should keep fasting, because I am suddenly doing really well with my eyes. This morning I could see the snowcapped Olympic Mountains clearly. I haven't been able to see them from my house at all for a long time. I saw everything without any glasses, and even my nearsided eye seemed better. I even knitted at one point today without glasses. My tongue is still coated, not as badly as before, but definitely not pink yet. I am releasing huge amounts of mucous. I can sit here and within minutes my mouth is full and I have to go to the sink to get rid of it. I wish I was a dirty old man, I'd put a spitoon next to my chair and let 'er rip. I'm sure that the detoxing will continue, because I will still be drinking juice and smoothies and will be eating salads. I will not weigh myself until the morning of the 1st.
BTW, I have absolutely no problem sleeping. I sleep like a rock, have wonderful dreams, and when I wake up I feel totally refreshed.
Hope everyone had a good night. I still did not sleep much but for right now I am feeling a little better than last night. I turned up the humifer in the house which has made me feel a little more comfortable sinus wise. I still have a stuffy nose, legs are still a little achy but no fever, no sweating, all my vitals are good.
I plan on sticking to water today again and maybe atleast trying to nap during the day. Perhaps walking on the thread mill at a low pace until I am tired will help as well.
Hope everyone has a wonderful day!
I was up till 4 again this morning. I just wanted to do something, but just relaxed the house is already clean. Thought about cleaning the floors again. lol NOT! It is too dark her to go for a walk in the night time hours, I mean really dark!
This morning I am drinking water only, may or may not get some oranges today, all I have to do is go out and pick them, but our friend the Mountain Lion is around (Heard him) and he has foot prints all over the place, so I am afraid to go out to the OJ tree. especially with Alex.(It is a 10 minute hike away from the house)
I am feeling kind of Blah in this moment. Guess I will get in to the sunshine!
Until later
I slept like a rock, as always. From 1 am to 7:30 am. I made the super fat burning juice this morning and it was very good. I only used half a bag of cranberries. They were 2 bags for $5. By the time you use 2, plus grapefruit and lemon, that drink costs a fortune. I'm sure the cup of cranberries is good enough. The taste reminds me of my liver cleanse juice. It also adds fresh ginger and garlic, but does not have the kelp or cayenne. It's also oranges instead of grapefruit. I emptied 4 capsules of kelp and 4 capsules of blue green algae into the juice. I'm feeling well and energetic.
Just talked to my son, who is going to work tomorrow for somebody else, so I won't see him for another 2 weeks or so. It's getting pretty lonely out here.
Well I just made it... the fat burning juice... made it a little different though. I used 1 large grapefruit, 2 small limes (just the juice), 1 cup of cranberries, hemp oil, kelp powder and cayenne. Added water... it was horrid. I then juiced up 3 or 4 small kiwis and it wasn't much better. Ewwww I won't be making this again.
I will use up the cranberries as I love them in my juices but this blend.... ewwwwwwwwwwwwww
its snowing again here! the last snows had mostly melted away so its nice to get some fresh white stuff. looks like i get to shovel later... i really love shoveling snow. :)
been drinking water this morning... thinking about my options for continuing; i probably will break this fast later today or tomorrow. i have been thinking a lot about the 10+ day fasts and feasts i've done this year (wow, i've fasted/feasted probably close to 100 days total in 2008 - almost 1/3 of a year!) and how they triggered binges for me later on. i don't know if the correlation is direct for me or if there is something i'm missing, but i think that i would like to try some variation of intermittent fasting where i fast 2-3 days a week at minimum (likely single days rather than a straight 2-3 day fast) and enjoy beautiful raw foods in between. i'm hoping that this will keep the desire to binge away while still giving me the benefits of fasting and giving my body a break from digestion frequently.
at some point i do believe that i will be able to fast long-term and transition successfully back into solid foods but i think it will take some work and i'm ok with not being there right now. i have many many years ahead of me to fast; i don't need to do everything all at once.
good luck on your journeys! i will probably be around on tuesdays, sundays and maybe thursdays. ;)
in juicy solidarity,
beckx
i drank it alllllllllll. cause i'm a good girl LOL
as for fasting. beckx it is super healthy to fast three days a week. many people do mon wed and fri... but you can pick any three as long as there is a day in between. they do not recommend you fasting every second day though... (not sure why) i guess they want your body to have a break?
when you do this you don't need to break your fast (other than a gentle breakfast) since your body doesn't actually go into fasting mode but rather it just gets a little break and a little detoxing.
melissa (raising alex) has been doing this for awhile and was loving it (till she decided to fast with me)... so perhaps that will assist you?
i think for me... with eating and fasting... i almost forget how to eat raw when i fast long term. it's a big challenge for me to eat raw afterwards because the 'norm' is to grab something SAD - after all we've done it for 20+ years for you and 40+ years for me. i do find that the more time i spend reading raw books and looking at raw recipes the better it is for me. it assists me to get back into the flow of raw.
i support you 100% in whatever you do and i'm here for you anytime! (((hugs)))
It's snowing here too (Boston Area) and I am stuck at work until 3:30. I've cleaned off my car 3 times already and it's covered again.
Aleesha, when I make the super fat burner I use one grapefruit, one orange or 2 clementines, one lemon and a handful of cranberries and a "thumb" of ginger (or a little more). I do not put oil or cayenne in mine. I sometimes water it down a little if it's too tart. It makes just enough for breakfast to get me through to my green drink.
Don't give up, just play with the recipe until you get it the way you like it. For reference you could google Fat Flush which is similar to this recipe. Oh, or use organic cranberry juice which is what I did before i got fresh cranberries.
Ginger has thermogenic properties like cayenne and tastes better with grapefruit juice.
I am staying home tonight with 6 teenagers!!! Eek!
I usually stay home on New Year's Eve. I will toast with some kind of fresh juice or water and my kids will have sparkling apple juice.
i just used my brand new wheatgrass juicer. i am in looooooooooooooooooooove!!! it's the 'healthy juicer (http://www.healthyjuicer.com/)' and wow does it ever work great. the wheatgrass juice tastes exactly same as the product that comes out of the super expensive wheatgrass juicer at the juice bar.
i cut 8"x4" of wheatgrass to get a double shot (2 oz)... took only a short time to make - even for my first time.
i am in heaven!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
just wrote about wheatgrass on my blog (http://aleeshasrawlife.blogspot.com/2008/12/wheatgrass-heaven.html)... i had NO idea it was sooooooo good for us! i will do a shot a day f-o-r-e-v-e-r!
I am wishing you all a very safe and fun New Years Eve and an even better New year.
Today I went to the health food store in search of some supplies. While I was wondering around in there feeling and looking miserable one of the employees asked if they could be of assistance. I told them my smyptoms and was recommended to take a dead sea mineral salt bath. They were out of the detox formula but I did purchase one from Masada for aches and pains. I sat in the our jet tub and soaked for half an hour - what an amazing treat! When I got out my skin was so soft and my legs felt so much better. There are herbs mixed in the sea minerals so I kind of felt like I was in a pot being made into soup but the results wonderful!
I stuck to only water again today and am feeling a little better symptom wise. I actually am starting to think I have a cold instead of these being detox symptoms. Even though I feel a tad bit better I still feel pretty bad. We went to the inlaws on Friday and there were several people there who were sick, dinner there is the pass the bowls around the table type deal from person to person so I may have picked up a cold bug there. I feel on the mend though and I am sure fasting will help make it gone, gone, gone in a hurry.
Oh yes and before I forget I had a great BM today.!
Have a good one
Dear beckx - It's the net. We can't see facial expressions, hear voice intonation, etc, etc, so I have found that things can come across differently than they actually were meant. :eek: It's a hostile world out there, so sometimes we can think it's coming in here too, right in our own living room. You prob know by now liss meant you no disrespect.. Cuz I know her, I'm sure she meant no harm.. prob just relating her own experience, not meaning to invalidate you in any way. Oh, such can be the cyber world.. :rolleyes: I've seen it many times.
The Fasting Bandits are a merry band. Rest assured, no one knocks anyone here. :p
But I do know what you mean.. when my wife & I were doing a long juice fast while courting (1976), the juices at the nat food stores were UNpasteurized. I'd be mixing things like Papaya Paradise with Blueberry/Banana Smoothie and whoa!.. I coulda sworn it was german chocolate cake!
Oh sweet youth. I'm goin BACK to those days! :p
i buy a flat of organic wheatgrass from the juice bar. i can also get a flat from an organic delivery but i need a minimum order from them whereas i can just pick up one flat at a time from the juice bar.
Ok Aleesha, you want a BM story? Am on my last day, day 35. So I made kimchi a couple of days ago with LOTS of chili pepper and jalapenos and some miso, and yesterday could not wait and had some of that great juice. This morning I had the fat burning juice, later some more spicy miso broth. Then came the payback. I suddenly felt like I needed to go, for the first time in probably 32 days. First I didn't believe it and ignored it, but then there was no mistake. I sat, and sat, and sat...It felt like I was giving birth, and the head got stuck in the birth canal. I was sitting, stretching my arms above my head, trying to get my feet on a footstool, all with that baby's head stuck. I pushed, strained, broke out in a cold sweat. Labor is no fun! Finally, delivery! Relief, yet at the same time I felt like ...well, let's put it this way: do you remember giving birth? How afterward you feel like your bottom fell out and is still hanging loose somewhere 4 inches lower than where it should be? That's how I feel. Even worse, that was just the beginning, because now the chilis really started to work, and whatever has been inside me wanted to come out at once. I kept revisiting the torture chamber. Thank goddess for old style toilets with large water tanks, or I'd be knee-deep in bathroom cleanup now. After securing everything (don't ask), I got on my rebounder and just figured that my insides can just bounce back into place. A few more fasts, and I'll learn to be more patient at the end of the fast. I must say, though, no smell at all, which means there was nothing left that fermented.:D
Aleesha Sattva
12-31-2008, 10:23 PM
now THAT is a BM story! *stands up and applauds*
so sorry you went through this. perhaps in the future you'll add something like cascara sagrada to your daily regime during your fast. 32 days without a BM... that is a long time. although i went weeks without one on my 12 week fast... it was never that long.
(((hugging your bum)))
I so can not wait to juice the super sweet smelling grapefruits and orange that I have. I am also craving greens today. I woke up and could taste green smoothie. Have to wait until tomorrow for those treats.
I am feeling better today. In addition to my salt bath yesterday I also did a nasal rinse and have been using Ocean (saline nasal spray to moisten). There was a lot of mucus built up in my sinus cavity that is all yellow looking today. I even slept better last night - a full 4 hours of non broken sleep. Hurray I am on the mend! I feel so good today I even put on a pair of my sexy underwear and have been walking around the house smiling. i am peeing sooooooo much. ahhh feels good. i find that i drink a lot of water at the beginning of my fasts and then i just stop for some reason. i drink only a few litres of fluid a day... AND my weight release slows or stops as well. so i've decided that i'm going to try to bring more fluids (more water) into this fast. feel free to remind me... asking me if i've had enough water in this moment. i can use the reminders! :)
Happy New Year everyone!!!
I've been thinking about changing from water to juice too Melissa. This is day 6 and I was only going to see what this water fasting was all about for a couple of days. I'm quite surprised I've made it this far. Other than a few nights with minimal sleep (last night was much better), being too tired to do much of anything but read and watch TV (man have I been reading!!), and some dizziness when getting up, I haven't felt bad at all. I think I must have been in a pretty good spot toxin-wise with starting this thing after 24 days of juice. I'd like to continue to make sure I'm healing some of my health issues, the main one being inflammation. My blood test from last month showed my C-reactive protein at a pretty alarming number. :( A 3 is considered high and I'm at 15.70. :confused: It could be from lots of things, all pretty serious, so I'm hoping fasting will help whatever is causing the problem. If these numbers don't improve I'll go to the Dr to see what is going on with me. I don't have insurance so I try to self treat with juice fasting and such when I can. I have diverticulitis and sometimes when I eat things that trigger an attack, I get pretty sick and I'm sure the inflammation is quite severe. So far I have been lucky that I haven't had to have any of my bowel removed. After my last attack, which wasn't that long ago, I was on antibiotics for 10 days and that scared me enough to get serious about not letting things irritate my intestines. I've sworn off popcorn for life. It's the worst trigger food for me. Hopefully when this fast ends I'll be able to stick to 100% raw and so that won't even be an issue for me. In Dr Fuhrman's book on fasting he says inflamation can be cured in 10-14 days on water. I really don't think I want to go 10-14 day! :rolleyes: Do any of you (who are still reading) think that with juicing as long as I did before the water and another week of juice after think I could have the same benefits without doing a full 2 weeks on water? I know juicing is great but it isn't as intense with healing as water so I wonder. I was thinking maybe going 8 days total. I guess two more would be livable. After today, 4 more days would put me at 10. Sigh. I don't know what to do.
I feel ok, I'm just so bored. I guess that isn't a great reason to quit when my health is at stake. I'd love some input. I can't really make up my mind on this.
Sorry for being so long-winded. I'm making up for not posting yesterday! :p
water fasting gives the highest level of healing and cleansing, second is wheatgrass juice fasting, next come juice fasting.
shoot i can't find what i'm looking for which is the ratios for water fasting and the ratios for juice fasting.
but i do know that water is waaaaaaaay more cleansing and healing than any other fast. how your body will react is uniquely you. you never know. some people achieve great healing with an 8 day juice fast while others take 30 days to achieve the same.
meditate on it and follow your body... it'll tell you what it needs. (((hugs)))
Roo - I did 8 days water after 21 days juice fast and following up with another 6 days of juice. The 8 days of water did a lot for my eyes, but as of today, first day back to eating some, my eyes are not quite as good as they were a couple of days ago. Not really back to bad, but definitely a small step backwards. My big problem is also inflammation, and I could tell and am still now releasing a lot of mucous. In hindsight, I should have hung in there with the water fast for a few days more, but I had the timeline figured out keeping other commitments in mind. It's nice to know that I can always do it again.
A little shock to my vanity (I didn't realize that I am actually this vain, LOL), my weight went back up from a low of 138 lbs. to 142.5 lbs this morning, just from going to fruit juices for the last 3 days. I should have known, though, because I read enough about it. So I still have a few pounds to get rid of. No worries, though, with raw food, walking, plus my rebounder I'm good. Also, the butt's well today!:D
oh good... your bum is happy!
yup, depending on what you take in - it changes your weight. i've gained weight on fasts pretty much every extended fast i've done. up and down... sometimes i release nothing for days... it's all about flow.
if i didn't understand fasting as i do... i would be concerned. my organs are a little sore with all this water i'm doing. it tells me that it's working! it's cleaning out what needs cleaning. soooo good to be doing this. i'll keep on chuggin' the water today...
I am new to fasting and am on my first day today. Right now I am doing green smoothies, and water in between. When you are fasting, do you just stick to fruit juices or do you also do green smoothies, and if you do both, do you do them on different days, say green smoothies one day, fruit smoothies next day......????? I don't know much about it, but really want to do this for 2-3 weeks before kicking back into raw food. Aleesha, you seem pretty knowledgeable about fasting. When you aren't doing just a water fast (I don't think I am ready for that yet), what do you drink?
when i'm not just doing water i do juice. no green smoothies as that doesn't allow the body to shut down... it keeps the digestion going and while fasting the idea is to rest your body... give it a little break so some heavy healing can be done.
you can do green juices and fruit juices... wheatgrass is GREAT.
welcome to fasting!
I love my MSM, take it straight up! I have had a tripple shot of barley grass and water today. We are outta town working again today. Alex and I picked a bunch of oranges, grapefruit and a few lemons that are the size of a VW Bug!
I have a terrible headache in this moment. I should have my glasses on today.
MelissaO I am glad to see you are feeling a bit better.
Aleesha writes: you can do green juices and fruit juices... wheatgrass is GREAT.
As you have noticed, I still don't know how to just quote part of someones thread!!!!!!!!!!
Aleesha, what do you mean by green juices? I know about wheatgrass, but unfortunately, I don't have a wheatgrass juicer (by the way, which one do you have). Knowing that I was going to start this fast, I have a crate of oranges that I bought a couple of days ago from a produce market near me, and am going to start juicing those and watering it down with water. I also have some cranberries~~it sounds like it might be good with one of the previous suggestions adding oranges and ginger. Went for a walk on the hills today, and did five minutes of jump rope (felt like a kid again). Jump roping is a great short additional workout doing 5 minutes two times a day. Believe me, by the time five minutes are up, you are breathless!!!!! Guess in some ways, did NOT feel like a kid~~ha-ha
Thank you all for your thoughtful responses!
I went back to my Dr Fuhrman Fasting book to read what he said about inflammation. I had read about it in the middle of the night when I couldn't sleep so I wanted to refresh my memory on what he said. Emma, since you also have inflammation, this might be helpful for you too. I'll paraphrase...
In this chapter he talks about how effective water fasting is in treating Autoimmune illnesses. Fasting is a remarkable anti-inflammatory intervention, more powerful than the strongest and most toxic drugs at reducing inflammation. Used as a tool along with appropriate dietary modifications, it can induce a remission of symptoms. Inflammation markers in the blood fall as the fast progresses. He said a 7-10 day fast. Whew! I read 10-14 somewhere. I think I can handle 10 days. So anyway in a study they did with two groups of people with autoimmune diseases. The first group was treated conventionally with drugs. The second with a 7-10 day fast followed by 3-5 months eliminating gluten, meat, fish, eggs, dairy, refined sugar, citrus fruits, salt, strong spices, preservatives, alcohol, tea, and coffee.
After 4 weeks the fasting group showed significant improvement in the blood markers of inflammation, including sedimentation rate and C-reactive protein. All testing done of both groups (the physicians didn't know what group the patients had be allocated) documented vast superiority of the dietary approach. The benefits of the fasting group were still present after one year.
I think that information is all I needed to read to make up my mind. The 7-10 day time frame helped considerably. Moth's very inspirational post in the water fasting thread today helped also. As did your kind support in this thread! :)
I am prepared to give up everything on that list to see how I fair. Going raw, most everything is already taken care of, except the citrus fruits :( that one will be tough. Spices will be hard too, but I need to seriously get my C-reactive protein down so if those things are a cause of inflammation I'm willing to cut them out. I guess I won't be trying the super fat burner juice when I break my water fast! *smiles at Aleesha* I'll just go with what she said, "ewwwww" and I won't miss it at all. I do put lemon in ALL my green juices though and many times limes as well! Sigh. So anyway, it looks like 3 more days for me on water until I can get back to my beloved juice.
I want to start juicing wheatgrass again. I used to buy it at Wild Oats by the flat and after about 5 flats I got really turned off to it and couldn't stomach it anymore. Before I went on the water I tried to buy another flat to give it a try once again. Our Wild Oats in now Whole Foods and they have changed some things up, including carrying wheatgrass flats. The guy in produce said no more wheatgrass due to the dangers of botulism! Phooey! They still sell the wheatgrass for pets though. So I guess I'll have to grow some myself. No biggie, I've read it's pretty simple to do.
So peeps, that's where I'm at. I wanted to be back to eating food by the 12th when my son comes in to visit for 5 days. I really wanted to take a good LONG time breaking this fast (I really need to learn this lesson!) but with the extended water fast I'm going to have to speed things along a little faster. That reminds me, the Dr at the fasting connection says the best fruit to break a fast with is Papaya. He says it's pretty much already digested before you swallow it. :confused: I'm not a fan of the stuff, but I may have to give it another go. I want this to be a very easy and successful break. :)
Have a good night you lovely people! (((hugs)))
I forgot to tell Emma that I'm sad about your eyes, but happy for your bum! I hope your eyes don't continue to worsen. My eyes have improved during this fast. My glasses are now too strong. Maybe like you, it won't last after the fast is broken. I'm ok with that because I can't afford new glasses but I know you aren't. :( (((hugs)))
such great info... thanks for the read roo!
green juices... think of your greens... kale, spinach, collards... and juice them. add some carrot, perhaps a little beet... mix it up and drink it. you can add apple but no other fruits should be consumed with a veggie juice.
read some of the threads in this section and you'll get soooo much info. trust me... there's so much here. i often go into the archives and just read when i have time.
nice to see you liss... love ya sista!
roo and aleesha
Thanks for all the info. I know I need to read some of the archives, but I was so excited about starting a fast today (even though I didn't do it right with the green smoothies) that's okay~~I am on my way.
Roo, thanks for all the inflammation info, I am reconsidering and thinking that maybe within a week or so into the juice fast, I will try the 7-10 day water fast. My body is definitely inflammed, I can feel it in my neck and my joints and have been very concerned with that, because I know that inflammation is a killer!!!
Aleesha the greens that you juice, do you do them in the vitamix or the juicer and does it matter? I have actually done wheatgrass in the vitamix with a very little bit of water until it is emulsified and then just press out the juice from the small amount of leftover pulp~~I don't know if I get the same benefits as a wheatgrass juicer, but it is all I have to use right now. Tomorrow I am going to spend some time delving the archives!!! I am psyched!!!!! However, four days from now might be different. I am finishing up a cold right now, and am not looking forward to the prospect of detoxing and having more or less the same symptoms~~the only thing is I know that detoxing is good for me and ridding me of all the bad gunky stuff that has been hanging around my body for years and is time to definitely let go of. A Fast at Last....smile
EmmaT, your poo story had me cracking up, tears were coming out of my eyes.
I finally had a little poo today. I wanted it to be more but a little is ok I guess.
I had super fat burner juice today and went to the gym. I had sooo much energy I had to make myself stop working out because I didnt' want to over do it. I feel really good though.
Still addicted to my tomato juice concoction for dinner though.
This weekend I will be traveling so I may have to water fast. I might be able to Master Cleanse. I'll have to see.
Roo, I think you just gave me a hint at why my eyes got somewhat worse. The problem with my eyes IS inflammation, and it's very difficult to get rid of it when it is in the eyes. You said Dr. Fuhrman (whose book I have, but all my books are currently packed up in storage) says to cut out, among other things, spices. I read that in another thread the other day, so it hit me that I've been first drinking just the juice and then eating EXTREMELY HOT kimchi the last three days. I put in quite a bit of freshly ground chili pods and my own homemade pickled jalapenos. I ate some in a soup today, and several times I got one of the jalapenos that was so hot, that I had to stop eating and sit there with my mouth open to let it cool down. I am used to very spicy food, eat habaneros in lots of stuff, but this was worse. So I'm wondering, if the spices are causing the renewed inflammation. It's easy to check, but I sure will miss that kimchi. Moth's post made me want to go right back to fasting, but my daughter will try to get a military hop over here from Germany in the middle of January. She weighs about 235 pounds at 5'6" and is desperate to lose weight. I keep telling her about smoothies and etc. and I want to make lots of raw meals for her so she can see how easy they are to make, how good they are, and how good she will feel. She already eats lots of salads, but she keeps falling off the wagon. So I really can't be fasting. I will start again as soon as she's gone back home. I'm looking forward to getting my vitamix. I made a banana/orange juice smoothie with kale this morning. I didn't take the stems out of the kale, and ended up with a lot of stringy fiber stuff in my smoothie, which was anything but smooth. I have a Kitchen Aid blender and had it running for about 5 minutes. I choked it down, but certainly didn't enjoy it. I know a vitamix would have turned it into something silky smooth. According to UPS tracking, I'll get it on the 7th, but from my son, who used to drive semi trucks, I know that Wyoming and Montana just close the freeways, if there is a snowstorm. I'm keeping my fingers crossed, that the weather stays good. Hear that, Aleesha, keep your blizzards up there in BC for the next few days.
Keep up the great fasts everybody. I'll be sending you all good thoughts!
One more day of working tomorrow, until the next job rolls in. I am very proud of myself - today I got up on the roof! I watched my Hippie get down onto the ladder and just did it because he made it look so simple. I faced my fears and it feels great!
Had a poo this morning. Drank a ton of water. Made Jungle Juice when we arrived at home this evening, it was very good. I plan on sleeping very well tonight, in fact I am off to begin the process. I keep telling myself that I AM going to sleep normal hours this night!
Today was a pretty good day. I feel so peacefull ....I wish I could stay in this state forever. It is so amazing that your insides feel so incredibly light and peacefull.
Nasal rinsing has really been a great help. I wish I would have remembered about it a few days sooner. I am still releasing a ton of mucus - better out than in I guess.
I noticed today that my hair is so super shiney and soft. I also noticed that my monthly has arrived and I have hardly any symptoms other than being a little tired (normally I have tenderness in the chest, horrible cramps an no energy.)
As of yet no poop today - there still is time though. I can still do a bit of a belly dance work out before bed time to see if that helps things along. I did have a little bit of gas when I was attempting to have a poopy. Every day through this fast I have sat on the thrown - thought about having a poopy and a few minutes later there it was like magic.
I hope that everyone had a wonderful day and has sweet beautifully vivid dreams tonight.
Love you all.
Hey Everyone,
The SAD holidays left me feeling mucky and yucky and wishing I had made different choices. So, I started envisioning living RAWesome again... and started getting excited, but needed a way to really mark my transition back... then I happened up on this thread!
Thank you Aleesha for getting us started on this thread & all your posts - I got very excited about a juice fast - it feels sooooo right! (I did one once before, but it was a "should" - this time it's exactly what I want.) So, I started today - what better way to start the new Year than a juicy day at home! I've had so much green juice and water - I can't believe how often I'm running to the bathroom! (My toddler loves it though - he gets to play in the water in the sink every time I go to the bathroom!)
Last night I was so excited for starting today and then I woke up this morning and was so in tune with how yucky I feel in my body right now, I was really bummed out. But I dove into a quart of lemon water and then a quart of cucumber/celery/green apple juice and started feeling better right away. Now at the end of the day, I'm feeling better than I have in several months - and there's a whole lot more better coming, I know.
Aleesha - Thanks for your blog on wheatgrass... it's amazing! I definitely want to incorporate wheatgrass into my day. How do the powdered products compare to fresh? Can I put wheatgrass through a regular juicer?
I've set my intention to fast for a minimum of 5 days and then feel my way from there (I think it'll be quite a bit longer, but I'm taking it one day at a time) - my body is my guide; it knows best; it's up to me to listen and follow.
Thank you everyone for being here & sharing...
-Bri.
Oh boy did I fall off the deep end. My new years resolution is to remain raw as much as I can (hopefully 100%), so I'm kicking it off with a juice fast for 6 days. I would do luck 7, but I'm going on vacation, so I won't have access to a juicer.
Hello All- Just checking in to see how everyone is doing today and share a little of my day with you :)
I am having an awesome day! I slept for 6 hours last night and only got up once to go tinkle. I still have mucus but it is draining out and not getting stuck. The huge black circles that looked like black eyes yesterday are gone (sinus congestion does that to me) but I did notice that the whites of my eyes toward the inside corners are red - the right one actually hurts a little to blink...anyone have input on what that is about? I did some surfing on the web and could not find anything. I did check my blood pressure and it was fine, my pulse rate is a little elevated for me but still within normal range and I have no headache.
Sadly there was no BM yesterday - I did do my belly dance DVD too and still nothing. I am still hopefull today.
GD- I am sorry you are having butt pee- the only time I ever had that was when I do a mastercleanse (SWF has you butt peeing for a long time)
Well I hope everyone else is having a great day!
I'm on water for 7 days now and butt pee is all I have had. Not large quantities, but pretty frequent. Dangerous stuff butt pee. Don't ever assume that pressure is gas! :o There is a dusting of poop in it most of the time but not even enough to fill a thimble. I just thought with my crazy (and by now clean) bowels and being on water for a week, this was nothing to worry about. Other than having some indigestion yesterday, I feel fine. I went to the fasting connection forum and searched indigestion to see if the Dr had commented on it. He said people can get relief using carbonated water. He said it doesn't stop the fast in any way. So I got a liter today (sodium free seltzer) and man oh man, I feel like I'm having a cocktail!! It is so refreshing! My indigestion hasn't been bad today so I'm not sure how good it will be for that yet but I had it here and wanted to try it anyway and I love it! I think having a liter of this a day will help me make it to day 10. I was so freaking bored with distilled water. This carbonated water is a whole different experience! Yea! :)
Butt pee is a normal thing for me while fasting as well. Get er out! Afterall you are drinking liquids all the time and not solids. Some continue with the soilds if there is a lot to clean out of the colon, or if you are eating between fasting days. Everyone of us is different.
Now when I say butt pee, is it not like a sick person would have like continually going, it is much more controlled than that, as it only happens once per day (for me) Now if you are consuming something that is not agreeing with your body then perhaps that would be a different story. Sometimes if a person is not used to drinking Jungle Juice all day, you may experience butt pee for a few days too. Butt pee, such funny words and how many times have I said it here? *giggling*
I am so glad you have butt pee too! I was worried after reading Aleesha's post and have been googling for 2 hours! (no, I didn't google "butt pee") LMAO :D I couldn't find anything of significance. I have such screwed up bowels and often have diarrhea during a juice fast, that this little bit of butt pee didn't alarm me. Annoyed yes, alarmed, no. It's getting less and less as the days go by, not that it was ever very much. During my search I read on several sites that diarrhea is not an unusual detox symptom in juice fasting. It could be the same for water fasting. Some of us lucky ones detox through our bowels. :rolleyes:
I sure do appreciate all the support and comments. It makes fasting so much better!!!
By the way, what is Jungle Juice? :confused:
wow, this is such an inspiring thread! I did a three day water fast before Christmas and I loved it! I actually want to go again but a voice in my head is saying 'what if it's not healthy to do one again so soon' ...so it's good to see you all doing so well on much longer fasts...
I just loved it...I loved my personality too, it had this really passive-peaceful, quiet happiness feeling.
Anyways...I might join you guys...as I've already been wanting to start again.
By the way, on the subject of butt pee, lol...I have experienced this every time I fast. I have also read about and experienced a more mucuosy movement, which is supposed to be an actual clearing out of mucous from your body...which I don't know if that's true or not, but it's all very fascinating, lol.
It's so nice having the "butt pee" people chime in! :D So reassuring. I love how we talk openly about everything here. (I've also passed some mucus during the juice fast) It's so helpful to know what other people's experiences are. I just sat mum whenever Aleesha asked for BM reports because I had nothing "solid" to contribute. :p Thank you GD for bringing up butt pee. I started to mention it the other day, after a particularly disturbing awakening the other night, but I refrained because it was just too yucky and rather embarrassing.
I hope you join us Bananna! The more the merrier! :)
I am wondering what you guys would think is a good strategy? I know I find water fasts actually easier than eating all raw, which is weird. So I would like to go on water as long as possible. What do you think is a good length of time for a water fast? My thinking is that two weeks would be ideal, but I also think that might be too long to still be safe? Also, not sure I could even do it that long anyway. The longest I have gone is 5 days in the fall. I am thinking of 10? And then follow that with maybe a green smoothie fast for another 20 for a month total? I'm kind of guessing...far from an expert, so what do you think is realistic?
"Butt Pee" shall be added, forthwith, into the official Fasting Bandits glossary, soon to be revised and posted here, and in the Fasting Bandit Living Room (or "social group" as they are called - a term that does not thrill me. But the Bandits do. :p)
I know how Aleesha likes to hear about people's poo - and I do too! My kids are sick of hearing about it so at least I get to get it all out here.
Glad to read so much about the but pees! Roo, mine has a "dusting" of poo also but I wasn't sure how to describe it, thank you.
Aleesha, thank you for your concern. Melissa thank you for your helpful information. I wasn't really worried I just want a real poo but I know it will come when it comes.
You two are the queens of fasting I love reading your posts.
MelissaO glad you slept for 6 hours, that's great.
Banana, welcome to the thread.
LOL @ ER. Butt Pee is in the dictionary! Woo Hoo!!
Okay, so now I know what to look forward to~~butt pee~~ha-ha My kids would die laughing if they read these comments.
Well folks, officially day one of my fast is almost complete, since yesterday I had green smoothies which are a no-no on fasting. I am currently drinking water, spinach, parsley, apple and ginger green drink. When that's done then maybe another glass or two of water and then I will have to stop or be up 10 times tonight going to the bathroom. I have peed all day~~not the butt pee but the vagina pee:D, or maybe I should say the pee hole pee:D!! Aleesha, I read most of your blog (great info and sorry for all the losses you had last year). During some of your fasts, you had some recipes for green drinks that had beet greens~~does that mean that when you use beet in your drinks, you just use the greens? Do you juice the beet as well? I am so confused!!!! I also don't know what the difference is between a green drink and a green smoothie? Sounds dumb I know:o, but what can I say??? Anyway, looking forward to tomorrow my second day!!!!!!
Isadeseyens, it's your fast so you can do what you want. If you want green smoothies have green smoothies. Unless you're looking for major detox then it will slow down a little with green smoothies vs. green juiceThat's just the way I see it. Don't worry you aren't doing it right, you are already eating much healthier than a SAD eater.
Congrats on your first day. May you soon be blessed with the butt pees.:D
thank goodness for our resident bear... he holds the dictionary so we can all learn the terms and make up more as we go along. *ALL HAIL THE BEAR*
jungle juice is melissa (liss) aka raisingalex's term for green juice. so anything green is jungle juice!
roo, hence the term "bowel movement" because even water moves *giggling*
i have many times had periods of time when my bowels have been very mucusy... i always consider this is a good thing. i also detox vaginally... releasing huge amounts of mucus from there... another good thing to watch for ladies! men, i don't think you'll experience this :P
banana, i would not go from water to green smoothies... you need a few days of juice in between as a water fast is a complete and total shut down... and green smoothies are 100% GOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO FORWARD so you need a transition in there. ;) but otherwise that would be very healthy and healing for your body. i've done 15 days on water no problem... i was doing 30 but decided to stop at 15. it is totally safe for you to do 2 weeks without supervision. of course, you need to listen to your body. if it says enough... then change things up!
when i say beet greens... i mean the greens of beets, when i say beets, then it's beets. when i say both beet greens and the beet, then it's both :) hope that clarifies things for ya linda. and you question about green drink and green smoothies... green drink is jungle juice (as explained earlier in this post) and a green smoothie, well you know what that is.
juice is without pulp
smoothie is with pulp.
well i had quite a bit more pineapple juice today. i just felt like i needed it... or i was indulging... not sure but i sure did enjoy it. i added a heaping tsp of spirulina to one... oh man that was gooooood.
do you all know what i love about these fasting threads? we all share so openly and honestly and then we all learn from each others posts. isn't it wonderfully delicious? i just love it. YOU are all how i learned sooo much about fasting (that and doing research)... so thank you thank you thank you!!!
i'm done drinking so i can sleep tonight without getting up to pee. it's been a GREAT day!
Isadeseyens, it's your fast so you can do what you want. If you want green smoothies have green smoothies.
true she can do what she wants but if she wants the benefits of fasting - as in the benefits of shutting everything down so her body uses that energy for cleansing and healing... then no fibre... that means no green smoothies.
if you simply want to stop eating solids... then green smoothies are the way to go.
but although you will gain many benefits from a green smoothie fast, you won't gain the same benefits as a water or juice fast.
in terms of cleansing and healing...
water is the strongest and most efficient
wheatgrass is next
juice is next
green smoothies is in the same place as a soup fast. :) lower down on the scale.
In the Fasting Bandits Living Room ("social group"), in the Photo scrapbook, it seems we have hidden communication spots here, behind each picture. This could be opportunities for fun..
Aleesha,
Thanks for clearing up the green juice vs green smoothie~~pulp vs no pulp. Think I got it now. I think I will go for the green juices for now. I do know that no matter which way I go, I will benefit, but for me now, I think I want to try the juice as opposed to the pulp. In the vita-mix I assume it is the pulp, whereas in the champion, it is the juice.....so I think I blew it again today, as the greens I did were in the vita-mix. I will try again tomorrow with the champion and the different juices extracted from there~~ahhhh it is all a learning experience.;)
Hmmm, on my profile page, it shows a window at the bottom right for social groups. I checked your profile but couldn't see it. But maybe you can. (It might be a user-specific kinda programming to save memory for the website). You might check there, cuz now I'm curious. :confused:
or just click here: ;)
Click on the group.
Then click "join group" on the upper right.
A little info for yall:
A. J. Carlson, Professor of Physiology, University of Chicago, states that a healthy, well-nourished man can live from 50 to 75 days without food, provided he is not exposed to harsh elements or emotional stress. Human fat is valued at 3,500 calories per pound. Each extra pound of fat will supply enough calories for one day of hard physical labor. Ten pounds of fat are equal to 35,000 calories! Most of us have sufficient reserves, capable of sustaining us for many weeks.
Stopped at the market for juice fixings on the way home tonight. $59 and we got a truckload of stuff! YAY makes me a happy juicy camper!
I got into the house and man was I thirsty, I downed 2 liters of ice water! I still want more, crazy! So here I am sipping the almighty H2O at almost 10, I guess I am lucky because I never have to get up in the middle of the night to pee. I finally slept well last night (normal hours) pleased me greatly!
Love all the photos FG. They put a smile on my face, I had not seen many of them for a long while. Thanks for posting them!
YES, Aleesha, Mum brought me something RAW! The hippie and I about fell off our chairs!
Tomorrow maybe a water day for me, just by the way I am feeling right now, like I have never drank any of the stuff before. Can't get enough into me.
The human body has many ordinary modes of achieving elimination: the liver, lungs, kidneys, colon, etc. When these are overloaded, the body will resort to "extra ordinary" methods of elimination: boils, mucous and other discharges, sweats, vomiting, diarrhea, and many others. Should elimination be impossible or uneconomical of body energy, the toxic overload will go into storage forms in the joints, vessels, muscles, organs; almost any tissue in the body. While fasting, the body is highly conservative of its energy and resources. During this deep and profound rest, toxin intake and production are reduced to a minimum while autolysins and elimination proceed unchecked. Anabolic processes such as tissue and bone healing also proceed at a maximal rate during the fast.
In the body, the first stage of cleansing removes large quantities of waste matter and digestive residues. The first few days of a fast can be rough due to the quantity of waste passing into the blood stream. The tongue becomes coated and the breath foul as the body excretes waste through every opening. After the third day of the fast, there is little desire for food. The second stage is the cleansing of mucous, fat, diseased and dying cells, and the more easily removed toxins. As the fast continues, the cleansing process becomes more thorough. The last stage is the cleansing of toxins that have been accumulating in your cellular tissue from birth, and the microscopic tubes that carry vital elements to the brain. Cleansing of the last layer is only possible through a combination of juice fasting, water fasting, and a healthy diet high in raw foods. To overcome a severe disease like cancer, it is important to continue through a series of fasts, to the point where the full scouring action of catabolism removes the disease from the tissue.
During extended fasts the body removes: dead, dying and diseased cells; unwanted fatty tissue, trans-fatty acids, hardened coating of mucus on the intestinal wall; toxic waste matter in the lymphatic system and bloodstream; toxins in the spleen, liver and kidney; mucus from the lungs and sinuses, imbedded toxins in the cellular fibers and deeper organ tissues; deposits in the microscopic tubes responsible for nourishing brain cells and excess cholesterol.
Nearly everyone who fasts, discovers the same thing, that when they fast they actually have no hunger and more energy than they normally have. It is indeed liberating to find out that if we let go and trust that we will be taken care of. Fasting is the simplest, easiest and most effective way to find out that we do indeed have the power and freedom to heal and take control of our bodies.
Love yall, Liss
