Hi all, I have a question I am hoping someone can answer. I was talking with a friend about Raw and they were telling me something called Ortho Vegan and that it is basically Raw. Has anyone heard of this or is there actually any differance? Much love to all. :)

only thing i found was ortho bone vegan supplements as discussed in this article by shazzie:

Q: Is there anything else I can do to ensure good bone and teeth health for my child?
A: Lots of green juices, herbs in food, superfoods, wild foods and sea vegetables. I would never attempt to raise a raw vegan child without supplements, and I also have them. The least you need to take is Ortho Bone Vegan (2-4 caps a day for a child, sprinkled into food and drinks, 12 caps per adult per day). This particular supplement covers all bases, and is a great safety net, but it's no replacement for nutrient dense raw organic or wild food. If you are breastfeeding, this food and supplement advice applies to you at least up until you stop breastfeeding, but beyond that if possible.

Are you thinking of Orthorexia Nervosa (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Orthorexia_nervosa)?? It's not necessarily part of being raw, it's a disorder...

that's what I was thinking, the eating disorder. Raw vegan and ortho-nervousa are 2 TOTALLY different things. Raw vegan = GOOD FOR YOU. Ortho = is an eating disorder where you are OBSESSED with eating healthy, to the point that you eat very very little and are completely stressed about your food. Orthos obsess over nutrients, etc and if I'm not mistaken it is somewhat like OCD with rituals, in regards to food, etc.

orthorexia is an eating disorder where people are obsessed with healthy eating. no doubt raw is probably the healthiest way of eating, but someone with orthorexia could easily be unhealthily into something like macrobiotics... which is far from raw.
still hoping they meant something else.
maybe ortho(dox) vegan. don't hurt the veggies, just bite their heads off before they feel it. ;)
