I'm on day 17 of going raw and feeling good. However my weight has drop to the point I feel I may have to start eatting un-healthy to keep the weight on. I make smoothies with avocados and bananas and nuts. Trying to keep fats in the mix. I've lost 14 lbs and don't want to loose more than 5 more.
So any idea to try?
- light candles. i always feel warm and happy with candles.
- add some hot pepper! self-explanatory. :p
- wear layers. bulky clothes = warmth. layering light cotton airy clothing can also = warmth.
- get moving! :D

I don't need to get warmer. I live in Florida today its in the upper 80's
Just want to stop dropping weight. Without stopping the raw food trial of 30 days or maybe forever.
oops. :o
what do you mean starting to eat "unhealthy" to keep the weight on? if you decide to incorporate other foods that are not raw, they don't necessarily have to be unhealthy. also, keep in mind the results of choosing to eat unhealthy (as in fast foods, man-made foods, etc...) in order to maintain a certain weight and what the other consequences are. are you ready to accept them?
i read another thread about this same topic, and i don't think it was ever resolved except to point out that there was a raw weight lifter with an amazing body. muscles add more weight without being unhealthy.
perhaps build some muscle. :) incorporate more dense sprouts into your diet if you haven't already. & michiganroman has an extensive list in this thread: http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/showthread.php?t=46763

Hi,
I had the exact same problem a few months ago when I first went raw, I thought it might be nice to lose 5lb or so, but that wasn't a reason for my going raw. 2 months later I had lost 15lb and was starting to get the worried "are you anerexic" looks and everyone around me trying to feed me all the time. Luckily I was on this forum and posted the same question you did, and many people told me exactly what I will tell you, you don't need to eat non-raw foods, although I do eat some rice or cooked oats occasionally now that it's so cold where I am, but even before that my weight did level out and I even gained a couple of pounds back. I am still at a lower weight than I thought I wanted to be, but I have come to accept and even appreciate my new "slightly too skinny" body, especially given how amazingly healthy and happy and energetic I feel! I did start strength training a month ago and have gained 2lb since then, I don't know if that's helping me gain muscle or if it's just helping me eat more, but either way, it's worth a try! =)
Good luck, at least finish the 30 day trial before you give up, you won't get too skinny in just 2 more weeks.

IMO you are on the right track with the avocado. I eat an all fresh raw food diet that has at least two avocados in it everyday. The avocado has a very healthy fruit fat that works for me. If you need more weight just eat some more avocados in your day. Here's a link to some info about avocados:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Avocado
If you click on it scroll down to the paragraph tittled "Nutritional value".

Some people do not gain weight from fat, rather from sugar. Have you tried adding more sweet fruits, denser dried fruits, and raw honey/agave into your intake?
Also, this could just be a phase and you could just need to trust the process as your body cleans out.
(I've never even lost a pound from going raw, so I can't speak from personal experience here)

i've read (not experienced this yet though as i still have more weight to release) that your body will drop below it's norm and then rebuild back up again. it's called finding your true weight i believe?
there are so many threads asking the same question. i would do a bunch of research and find what resonates with you and give it a try. ;)

I do a lot of fruits and use raw honey in my banana smoothies to help with taste. I think I'll keep going with what I'm doing at least to the 30 day mark. And I'm going to try and start doing chin-ups, as exersize. I haven't been able to do that for a long while. Thanks for all the suggestions

Are you eating several times a day rather than just 3 meals? And are you eating enough? You may just need more food. Most likely though it's just temporary. Raw food is very cleansing so your body is adjusting to it.
Some commented that I seemed too thin when I first became raw, but I think I've just become the perfect weight for me (still got curves). I like how with raw you lose weight in places you normally wouldn't, without exercise. Not that I needed to lose weight, just needed to become more defined and fit.

Well i'll give you reverse advise, because i am always trying to lose weight and end up putting it on.
When i put weight on its normally because iv been eating lots of seeds/nuts/raw chocolate/raw crackers/breads ...... i loose weight when im just eating salad and drinking smoothies all the time.

You should get Alissa's book if you don't already have it. She answers this very question in her Q & A section. Basically, you may go below your ideal weight for a while but it will stabalize out to the perfect weight that your body was designed to be. Be patient and know that as long as you are doing the healthiest thing for your body...in time your body will respond and adjust. In the meantime, eating many of the nut-based meals that Alissa has in her book will help alot. Of course Avocados are great. Also, eat whenever you are hungry. Even if it seems like you are eating a lot in one day, still eat. Your body will let you know when it needs food and when it doesn't. Good luck with this.

I have also read the same thing from many different sources - Alissa's book as well as several other high profile Raw folks (Storm, Angela Stokes, etc.). Many of them mention that this is exactly when many people give up RAW because they're concerned about being malnourished or when family & friends encourage them to do so for the same reason.
And all of the sources I've read say to simply hang in there - that your body is stripping away all the poor quality (SAD built) muscle & such and then will rebuild high quality (RAW built) tissues and you'll come out of it at your personal ideal healthy weight with that awesome RAW glow.
Hang in there!
Bri.

Can we trade bodies?? Please?? :D
I wish I had this problem. Unfortunately, I won't be of much help to you. I'm always afraid of putting weight on...
I also experienced losing "too much" weight on 100% raw. I found that my body fat dropped significantly- from places I never lost fat before- and I didn't need to lose weight to begin with. People were commenting, my family and friends were worried, and I felt kind of self-conscious because of it. I also found that I simply do not gain weight eating raw- no matter what or how much I eat, my body seems to process it very efficiently if it's raw. I actually stopped eating 100% or high raw and gained the weight back easily, but I realized that the "healthy" weight gain came at a cost. I didn't feel energetic and connected to the Earth anymore. I didn't have that raw glow. My old food addictions came back and I knew I wasn't on my right path. I have since gone back to raw and am just going to accept my body this time around. The standards for weight were developed for people eating toxic and unnatural foods. Perhaps our bodies are meant to be thinner, and eating raw brings us to this natural weight. It is our natural diet, after all!
If raw feels right to you, then keep going. Make sure you're eating enough and exercising moderately and not excessively. Listen to what your body is telling you and you won't go wrong!
