I have a sore throat starting up today from having to stand outside in the snowing and freezing cold for an hour. I got on the phone and was like I need to go get some chicken noodle soup. Then I realize, I can't have chicken noodle soup. I am trying to resolve this problem by drinking tea, but all day.
But what do you do when you have a horrible cold, sore throat and think you are coming down with the flu?

If I think I am coming down with the flu, I take Oscillococcinum and do the same things I do if I am getting a cold.
If I think I am getting a cold, I try to do things that are both soothing feeling and accelerate the whole process.
I drink lots and lots and lots of water, often warm and sometimes with lemon.
I rest.
I dry brush, take nice hot, epsom or dead sea salty (or mustard, or Olbas-y) baths followed by a cool shower, maybe even scrub with some salts, then scrub off briskly with a rough towel, and climb under the covers to sweat it out. I take baths hot enough to raise my body temperature, as I feel fever induction is beneficial.
If I am hungry I have juices, green with garlic, or citrus mostly.
I think the main things are get rest, get fluids, clear the pathways of elimination as much as possible, and don't put anything into your body that's going to slow down your detox.
Feel better soon. :)
*mustard bath is available commercially in health food stores, as is an oil blend called Olbas (they make specific product for baths, too); Oscillococcinum is a homeopathic preparation that in my experience can stop the flu dead in its tracks... in case you're not familiar with some of the things I mentioned.

ditto to everything holyguacamole said. I will sometimes use a zinc lozenge or nasal spray if I feel that awful tickle or sore throat coming on. can't remember the brand name, since I haven't used it in quite a while. I think moving to Florida from Michigan, plus going raw had a lot to do with that. hope you feel better soon.
i like candles. :)
light walking can be good. get your circulation going so oxygen is traveling to all parts of your body with more efficiency. SLOW... light walking.
plenty of rest. ;)
oh and also trust in your body. it will go away without your even having to do anything at all. make yourself comfortable.

You can have hot water with some celtic salt in it to gargle, echinacea tea or extract, atragalus tea or extract, garlic steeped in hot water, the juice of half a lemon with enough honey to make it tolerable in hot water, do drink lots and lots of hot liquids tho not hot enuf to scorch your tongue. I like to add alfalfa sprouts to mildly hot water with a touch of olive oil and some celtic salt and sip on that. Zinc lozenges are very effective. Stay warm and cozy and run a vaporizer or similar machine. Moist air keeps sinuses able to fight off infections. I find that I only get sick anymore if I have had something with dairy in it without realizing it, like the salad dressing at a restaurant not too long ago. That stuff is so full of bacteria and/or it's toxins. Eat lots of juicy veggies and fruits also. Cherries seem to stop the pain of a sore throat for me every time. :)

Long hot baths/showers everyday doring the winter to stay warm. Warm cloth ofcourse ;)
Raw garlic in my food + ekstra vitamine C. I folow the ayurvedic system and nurture my vata inbalance by eating warming, salty (miso), spicy (garlic, black peper), sweet and oily foods. This combination has saved me several times when I can feel a cold comming on. I end up only getting a little snotty for a couple of days, but not sick.

I think it's more about what you don't do then what you do. Usually I can feel my body tell me what it needs. But for those who are not at the place right now here are some of the things my body says:
DO:
Relax
Get lots of sleep and naps during the day
Eat fruit (citrus especially)
Keep the body at a comfortable temperature
Drink water when your body asks for it
Eat foods that are extremely easy to digest
DON'T:
Eat foods that take alot of energy to digest (fat & protein mainly)
Exercise or exert yourself too much
Take supplements. The only things proven to speed cold & flu recovery are fruits and vegetables. Even vitamin C has not been shown to be helpful above the amount an orange would have.
These are just ideas of mine that seem to work for me.

If I became sick I would increase the probiotics, which I believe have been responsible for keeping me from getting sick since long before raw. Also high doses of supplements and food with Garlic, Vitamin C, Echinacea, Ginger, etc. and green powder like Vitamineral Green. Preferably lots of fresh juice.
