Hi, My husband and I are just starting. We have Alissa's book and dvd, bought a food processor, Blendtec and are going to do the 30 day challenge when the dehydrator arrives next wed. We have made a few recipes but my husband is concerned about getting bored with the raw diet and wondered if many men age 50 and up do raw or is it mostly women. We are looking for more recipes for entree meals for him. Can anyone help and give encouragement please!? Thanks:D

his battle will be to feel filled up , and to have the heavy fuels in his guts that give him big muscle strength . when i went raw frm a long term cooked whole food vegan diet featuring alot of beans/rice/potato/bread i couldnt feel filled up without theose heavy substances in guts . and drinking green tea and ice water with lemon squeezed in helped quell over sized appetite down .
then eating alot of bananas / avacado / nuts helped put heavy / dense substances in my guts for them to kinda suck on replacing the old heavy beans /rice /potato they previously fed on . im also now getting into soaked wheat seeds , after soaking around 30 hours or more they get soft and chewy . well plain theyre not real tasty , but if you add like tabouli type things i like , then im thinking like oatmeal type addatives like beries , nuts , raisins , etc . im really interested in trying to add pizza or mexican type seasoned tomato sauces to the wheat and let them sit like 4/6 hours to absorb the tastes . i cant wait til summer to try these baked in the sun several hours . but the wheat id another heavy / dense fuel plus cheap so im putting alot of hope in it as a staple here at 3 years raw because ive become burned out on salads . though ive really enjoyed the past 3 years of giant salads . belows a list of alot of my foods :

AVACADO
BANANA
SOAKED / SPROUTED WHEAT
KALE
SPINACH
WALNUT
ALMOND
SEED / NUT MILK SMOOTHIES
FLAX SEED GROUND
SESAME SEED GROUND
PUMKIN SEED
SUN SEED
RAISINS
ROMAINE
DANDLION
TOMATO
BROCOLI
MUSHROOM
GARLIC
SPROUTED MUNG BEANS
SEA WEEDS / KELP / DULSE
CITRUS
BERRIES
WATER

PROTEIN
FAT
CALCIUM
IRON

That tends to be a very trial and error thing so it would help if you adjusted your mindset a bit so that you are prepared for some disappointing meals...what tastes good to me, you may hate...so you really have no choice but to just try it and see if you like it or not. If not, then you have to be able to walk away from it and have something simply satisfying like nuts, fruit, salad.

Also, the boring factor, does show that food is very much our entertainment. I think if you find other things in life that are exciting and interesting you will rely less on food to fill this need.

So that's my two cents....and I like this salad

and this thread has some good ideas as well.

You are welcome....and I should add that once you get good at raw and have the uncooking skillset, loads of stuff you like....you might do a complete 180 in attitude and find like so many others that when you do eat cooked food you will find It bland, boring and flavorless.

Hi Aslraw! Welcome!

I always find I look to the 'photos' threads here on RFT for inspiration. There are some amazing photos of raw foods and many of the recipes as well. Some great 'filling' foods are on display like burgers, lasagne, etc.

Try typing 'photos' or 'photos only' into the search bar (click on the banana search button on the above menu).

I often just look at photos and think how I could recreate such food without looking at the recipes, but in the beginning you might want to try following some recipes and seeing how you can tinker with them to make them to your tastes.

As for becoming boring, it really is amazing how our minds turn around after a 30 day raw stint. Just think of the 30 days as just that, 30 days. At the end you can go back to the way you ate before, but fantastic things happen and the majority of people, even if they go back to cooked food, never eat the same again. They almost unconsciously incorporate more raw an fresh foods into their diets and find their tastebuds have changed.

As for food being our entertainment, I don't think this is a bad thing, it's just that it's unhealthy entertainment when it's unhealthy food. I get a massive kick and heaps of entertainment out of preparing raw foods and challenging myself to push the boundaries.

Try and put yourself in the mindset of trying the 30 days for better health and increased wellbeing. Try not to think of the things you 'can't' have and think of all the lovely things you can have.

And come back here for some encouragement and assistance, people on this board are always willing to help out! :D

I've used my dehydrator once, why are you waiting? Meals in my opinion take too long, just take the food RAW the way it is meant to be.
