Merry Christmas to me, I am getting a Vitamix!! There are a few different models out there, which one is the best for in home use? what is your experience? TIA

Either the 4500 or 5200. They're almost the same, but you can find the 4500 cheaper. The difference is the 5200 has a variable speed, while the 4500 just has high and low. They both have the new containers which are very nice.

Some have gotten older models and they've worked fine too. They won't have the same warranty though. You can always read up on the reviews on Amazon or epinions.

Such a Wise Choice, just as long as it is a Vita=Mix. They are all great, they are just making them with more Bells and Whistles now.

I bought a 5200 with only the regular large wet container. I *think* I might eventually invest in the smaller container soon... LOVE the VitaMix!

I have the 5200 with wet and dry containers and love it! I can't say I use the dry container all that often, but it has come in handy a few times.

Also - I was in a food prep class last month and learned that Vitamix has a special Vitamix spatula --- GET THIS! It's perfectly shaped for the container and reduces any waste of your precious food left behind. I don't like to waste anything, so sometimes (ok, most times) I'll even make an additional recipe just to use the bits from my last recipe.

It also works great to get all the meat out of a coconut.

Wow, I missed the special spatula. Guess it's a little late to add that to my Christmas list . . .

I mentioned this in a previous post, but will say it again. I got myself the vitamix 5200 deluxe, with 3 spatulas, plastic (vinyl)?) cutting boards , labeled to prevent cross contamination, but I use all of them just for fruits and vegies. 1 large wet, 1 each smaller wet and dry containers, a dvd and recipe book comes with it. probably other things I can't remember right now. I used the three payment option, so happy christmas to me, from me. :D

I just got the Nikon d60 for my b'day, it's great! How's your d40 workin'?

Still haven't gotten the blender yet, ca'nt decide. The price puts me off a bit. But I NEED to get it now, can't live without a blender much longer.

Info here (free shipping, refurbished Vita-Mixes, other ideas http://uncooking101.com/saving-money-on-raw-food-equipment.html)... I think they're all good. If it's a Vita-Mix, you're golden. My mom LOVES her 30-year old VM 3600. It's still kickin' and super powerful. When I get back to the US, I'll probably get the refurbished VM 5000 to save. I had the VM 4500 and was thrilled with it, and I sold it for about what I bought it for when I moved overseas! Otherwise, I would not have parted with it.

I've been happy enough with a pretty powerful Phillips while over here, but nothing replaces the Vita-Mix (the Vita-Mix = any Vita-Mix). :)

I have been told by other raw chefs (and I agree) that the dry container is not worth the extra expense. I'm sure someone out there would disagree with me, but it seems entirely unnecessary when you're on a budget. You can grind dry goods without the dry container.

I was on the verge of buying the Nikon D80 with 18-135 lens for $750 as my Christmas present, when I noticed the Vitamix offer for Ellen Holiday Package for $449 that was expiring on 12/22. When I saw the responses to "pros and cons" of vitmix, I quickly ordered it. It should be here in a few days. I think there is still a "holiday package" offer on the vitamix website.
Merry Christmas, Happy New Year to Me!
Now I have to save for the D80!
