hey all,

i've had this problem for about ten years where certain exercises will make my left hip pop audibly like its coming out of place. its slightly uncomfortable but not painful, although it makes parts of pilates class difficult for me. has anyone successfully healed this problem? know of any foods or exercises that are particularly helpful in addressing it? i can deal with it, but i hate to think what it could lead to in the long run.

thanks in advance

I know what you are talking about - I used to get that in my hip joints when I was younger but as I grew older it went away. It used to be very annoying - sorry I dont have any advice for u .:(

What's helped for me is strengthening my core muscles. Mine used to pop, lock, and hurt! I've always had strong core muscles, but I guess not the right ones. Sit-ups where you put your elbow to the opposite knee seems to have worked best for me. That, and strengthening your hips, too. There's a move where you're on your knees, and just sort of move yourself up and down, bum to heels, then up and forward, and experimenting. This one is GREAT for those muscles around your hip joints!

I used to get this as well, not so much any more.

Definitely strenghtning the surrounding muscles as Crazy said is a good way to support the joint and help to prevent it. I'm not sure if it was a factor but I used to take quite a bit of veggie glucosamine powder to help 'lubricate' my joints for another condition, this may have helped to decrease the 'popping'.

I do notice alos that when I slack off on my yoga and pilates that it does tend to come back just a little.

This happens to me too! I can't do pilates leg exercises because of it!!!

If it's been a problem that long -- I'd see a Rolfer.

This happens to me, and I see a chiropractor regularly to fix it.

(I got a crappy part in the musical in high school because i couldn't do one of the dances because my hip popped and it would hurt :o hehee...)
