Hey everybody!

I am going to make a blueberry pie from Alissa's book, but I only have 2 cups of blueberries and about 1/2 cup of almonds, no dates (and I'm broke!) Will it still work if I add 2 cups of strawberries, use sunflower seeds for the rest of the almonds and raisins instead of dates?

How long do I have to soak stuff?

If it's half strawberries, then would it gel? Would I have to change it's name to berry pie?

I've never made it with strawberries, but I did make it with half blueberry and half raspberry and it turned out fine. I think it would work with any berry......

Another option is to make just half the recipe. I do these each time I make it because I just can't eat the whole thing. I then just put it in a smaller tupperware container. And I think raisens would work just as fine as dates. In fact, I may try that next time. I have an easier time finding organic raisens then I do dates. Let me know how it works if you do use raisens. As far as soaking..I did not soak the almonds. And I only soaked the dates for about 10 minutes. Not sure if that is right or wrong, but my pie turned out fine. I think the almonds soak up a lot of juice from the berries.

Thanks a lot! I'll let you know what happens. I am going to have almonds, sunflower seeds and pumpkin seeds in the crust.

Experimenting is FUN, let us know how it goes. You never know what you might invent by playing around like this. :D

The raisins worked great in the crust. Much easier to soak, too. I think the seeds were ok - but the almonds would be better. I didn't need the strawberries - Alissa's recipe must be for two huge pies or something.

Yummy!
