Well, here's an "over 50 and raw" entry. My optometrist informed me today that I have a minor (whatever that means) cataract in one eye. Maybe it's minor because she can correct my slightly diminished vision with a glasses correction from 20/30 to 20/20.
Well, it's no big deal ---not cancer or copd, but a sure sign that I'm approaching --I'm NOT there yet!---old age. Sigh.
For those of you keeping score at home, I am 67 and have been very high raw for a few days short of 2 years.
Does anyone know anything about raw and cataracts? I'd love to think that they can be reversible, but I'm not holding my aging breath! :D

Who's to say what the cataract would have been if you weren't raw......doesn't sound urgent to have it removed so lets see what raw will do. I don't mean to underplay this because I'm sure it's really of great concern to you. If anything, maybe you could consult with Alissa and see what she has seen happen with cataracts. Good luck and wishing you the VERY best.

I've read a number of books on fasting available at the Soil & Health free library (www.soilandhealth.com) and several of the doctors say that cataracts were eliminated with water fasts.

Brightly colored berries are an eye superfood. Cranberries, wild blueberries, cherries, goji berries, raspberries, blackberries etc.
Vegetarian DHA is also a great eye food. Eat lots and lots of algae, particularly golden algae, or pop a few vegetarian DHA supplements per day (it's just raw algae oil).
I make really, really detailed polymer clay artwork, and I've found that eating tons of berries and taking my DHA allows me to see better without magnification. I also have more of an "eye" for matching colors the more that I am raw.
