Hi I'm a newbie. On day 7 of my raw food only testing, to see if I can make this a life style change. Hope you might be able to help me make a banana smoothie without the green after taste. I waited till my bananas where turning brown skin. This use to be the stage I would be tossing them out. (before raw) I',ve tried them in different stages of yellow and with different greens or berries with little effect. Is there a simple solution to this.

if i understand you right you're asking for a green smoothie recipe with banana?

how about:
- 2 bananas
- 1 cup (or more) of baby spinach
- 1 1/2 cups of fresh or frozen berries, mango, pineapple or a combination
- 1/2 cup of water or nut milk (might need to add more)

blend until smooth.

What types of greens are you using? Baby spinach is a nice sweet green. Try adding more fruits and less greens to start off , after a while you will be able to increase the greens. You can also try adding a little bit of raw honey, agave, or maybe a few dates to make it give it a little sweetness.

No, sorry I did'nt make myself clear enough. If I just use a banana and water only, I still get the green after taste. Taste kinda like a not ripe banana green taste. I have tried to use other fruits, to mask the after taste. So my question is what over powers a green after tast with a banana only smoothie. I plan to experiment with other friuts and greens. Just hoping some one knew a quick fix for this.

GilmoreGirl: fap is not even using greens!

I've never tried a banana/water only smoothie, but I always also add a sweetener like honey, that may do the trick. But you should also be adding other fruits like berries to get more nutrition and taste. If you want them to be more filling and rich, add a some walnuts and a tbsp of coconut oil. I also always put a bit of salt to boost the taste and increase mineral contents.

Hmm... I've never had a 'green' aftertaste with just a banana smoothie before!

Perhaps try a nice nice smoothie of nut milk (this could just be a handful of nuts in the blender with some water) with a couple of bananas, some soft dates, a pinch of salt and a couple of pinches of cinnamon. Or try berries, they are really good at masking other flavours. See if freezing the bananas helps at all, add the frozen banana straight into the smoothie.

You could also get some raw chocolate powder, that'd make for some pretty serious masking!

Thanks for all the ideas. I usually do put other fruits in, but still have tasted the after taste of a green banana. At first I thought it was because the bananas where more like I would normally eat. (more yellow) but I tried ones turning to brown (about when I use to throw them out color). And thought the taste had to do with the other fruits and greens I was adding. So that when I went to straight banana to see what was causing the green taste. I'll try the other mentioned ideas. Thanks to all..

Klomasius :Ummmm raw chocolate powder, now that would be an aftertaste I would not mind at all.....:)

Fap218: You said you are raw now 7 days - could just be a taste bud re-adjustment thing too. Foods taste different to me the more raw I am, somethings at first tasted wierd to me then after awhile they taste wonderful! The frozen nanner idea is a good one, or maybe try organic nanners. I hope you find something that works for you

almond milk

carob powder

banana

ice

a sweetner - tricky part as the rawness of agave seems to be challenged + plus cost prohibitive . then theres in my outlook the non vegan honey because its made by bees (see signature for explination) . then berries being in season / sweet can be tricky , though i guess could opt for frozen . though theres sometimes also the possibility of sweet oranges or pineapples being available as a smoothie sweetner . but i tend to cheat alot on this almond milk / banana / carob smoothie by sweetening it with pure maple syrup . its such a delish drink to me i call it ' a good cheat ' , its also very soothing on my acidic tract so i use it several times per week .

My fave banana smoothie:
2 tsp. raw honey
2 ripe bananas
1 cup nutmilk or 1/4 cup nuts and one cup water
1/4 avocado (trust me, it's good in this smoothie)
1 tiny pinch of sea salt
Half of the seeds from a vanilla bean, or 1/2 tsp. vanilla extract

I get what you're saying about plain banana/water smoothie tasting slightly bitter or "green" as you describe it.

I like to add some vanilla, cashews and squeeze some orange juice into the banana/water/spinach mixture you first talked about.
