I recently started eating apple seeds, and it was like a revelation: how could I possibly have waited 'till I'm 26 to taste an appleseed?! It tasted like amaretto, and made me feel like I'd tapped into some great secret, hidden right before everyone's eyes.

So yesterday I was eating a pear, and the thought occured to me - could I eat those seeds, too? what about canteloupe seeds, watermelon seeds, etc etc? But I was a little scared - so much SAD conditioning, I guess. So do you eat those other seeds? Are any of them actually dangerous to you? Are there benefits? what do they taste like?

I will sometimes eat the seeds of apples, pears, etc. also watermellon if there aren't too many, but I just found out recently you can make cantaloupe milk from the seeds. pretty cool, huh? I have never had any ill effects from this, and never got pregnant from eating watermellon seeds. JK :p

Apple seeds are toxic in high amounts, but beneficial in small amounts. A good rule of thumb for eating apple seeds is to never eat any more apple seeds than the amount you would find in a reasonable daily consumption of apples. Apple seeds in small amounts are anti-cancer, they contain vitamin B17.
Melon seeds are all fine to eat in any amount and are incredibly nutritious. Melons were originally cultivated for their seeds, not their flesh (if you've ever tasted the bitter wild melon flesh, you'd know why). Squash and pumpkin seeds are terrific, too.

I have never tried them - my grandma used to make us take the apple seeds out of the apple slices before we gave them to the parrots because they contain cyanide

I just discovered a few days ago that if you have a high powered blender (like a Vitamix), you can blend the avocado seed in your green smoothies. I never knew!

I juice most seeds although I have routinely removed apple seeds since they are toxic.

All the time. Apple seeds have never killed anyone in any quantity... that was all mythology created when B17 started being used for cancer treatments to scare people away from it. I usually eat all of the fruit except the stalk!! Makes for much easier eating on the go since you have no messy cores to deal with.

I like making 'nut milk' from some melon seeds too.

Really?! That's crazy! I mistakenly though, like everyone else, that they contained cyanide and were toxic in high amounts.

I always eat everything but the stem of the apple, it's a lot easier and more satisfying. same goes for pears, and pretty much all fruits.
if the banana is organic, you can eat the peel if you feel like it, but the conventional ones are laden with crap you don't wanna eat.

swallowing seeds seems simpler.

This video explains that B17 is part of the Nitrilosides family of anti-cancer compounds. Yes, it does contain cyanide which is "unlocked" by the cancer cell and only at the cancer cell. Healthy cells will not be harmed by it because it doesn't have the enzyme to "unlock" the harmful substance.

I put the entire apple, including the seeds, into my green smoothies.

and I thought I was being adventurous....eating the whole pomegranite seed(back when I was a kid we sucked the juice and spit the seeds)....I'm gonna have to branch out to other seeds and man I just dumped all my melon seeds yesterday, darn it!!!

Eating seeds with potentially harmful effects reminds me of chemotherapy.

If you like them, might as well. Can't hurt you unless you are eating them all day (and that is only a few of the seeds that are poisonous)

Hmm. I never knew. I always thought they were poisonous. I might have to try them. Normally I just give any peel or cores to my rats (I can't stand apple peel. I have no idea why.)

I can't imagine that banana peels are tasty.

I could imagine scraping the inside of the peels and filtering it somehow to make a nice nectar to be added on top of things... mm time for ideas

What's your source?

what's your source, i just looked at some websites and it seems that appleseeds contain a compound in which the cyanide molecule is a part of, and when that compound is metabolized in the body, it breaks down to hydrogen cyanide, which isn't the same thing as cyanide...is hydrogen cyanide dangerous?

yes Apples contain small amounts of cyanide, but the anti cancer benefits are great for you. Victoria Boutenko mentioned that you'd have to eat an entire case of apples and apple seeds in one day to notice any sort of toxicity from the cyanide and so the normal amount of a few apples a day blended in a smoothie or eaten are nothing to worry about.

Hydrogen cyanide is highly toxic. Amongst other things, it was used to kill people during the holocaust.
It has also been used to kill bugs.

Flaxseed also contains substances that turns into hydrogen cyanide once digested, which is why we have to limit our daily intake of ground flax seed to 5 tbsp.
Same thing goes for apricot kernels. So eating seeds is a bit risky.

Fruit seeds contain a form of cyanide that is only recognized and unlocked by cancer cells, it does not in any way effect healthy cells of any living creature. You think they are poisonous because of the mass disinformation campaign that was begun in the 70's when the medical community realized an inexpensive and natural cancer cure was being used on the daily basis to CURE cancer patients. Check out www.B17.org" and take a look at this documentary that explains it all, www.curenaturalicancro.com/world-without-cancer.html

I did cantaloupe seeds one time with cantaloupe to make "milk"
OUCH!!! I got the worse gas, and stomach pain ever. But you are talking to someone that can't digest seeds/grains very well.
Be sure to strain it, maybe it was all the fiber??
It was tasty though :D

I eat a lot of the seeds that come through my kitchen including apple seeds.
