Ok, I have been eating 85% raw for 2 months now. Quit smoking 5 months ago, Quit drinking coffee 5 days ago, cut out all refined sugar, sodas, stopped eating meat everyday, now just 2-3x a week and still fat on my booty. I thought it was going away until I saw it this morning. The weird thing is, I eat raw all day long, mostly fruits and veggies, rarely any nuts and for dinner it is mostly veggies. Is it possible to have more cellulite from eating mostly raw, but still eating some cooked? Or not eating enough fats? I am a massage therapist, so I do get exercise. I have also been doing the dry brushing about every other day or so. I just don't get it. My sister drinks like a fish, eats processed food, and has none. Anyone have any suggestions, I would be very happy.

Could it just look fat to you?
I just went into your journal. Fat bootie no way. If you have a little more than you think you do what is wrong with a jlo bootie any ways lol

I am thin, but I have always struggled with cellulite on the thighs and booty. Some women have bellys, I was starting to get one before going raw. That is gone, just can never seem to get rid of the fat on my butt. This may just be my perception, but I feel it is almost worse when you are thin because it is unexpected. Stereotype I know. I am starting to wonder if it has something to do with the lymphatic system?

I don't mind a bigger jlo butt as long as it doesn't look like an orange peel.

If you just stick with the raw all that will be behind you (no pun intended).

O.k, two whole months? That long, eh?
You say you work as a massage therapist so you get exercise ~ doing what? What you need to do, if not doing it already, is get your butt outside and walk it off! Literally! Find some hills, up and down, up and down. Talk to us in about 2 weeks. :)

Even though I have been eating raw for only 2 months, I didn't eat a whole lot of junk before. Never ate fast food. I guess I just need to exercise more then. I consider giving massage to be exercise since I am moving for sometimes 5 hours straight using my whole body. Sounds like you were being sarcastic but I could be wrong. Anyways I just thought I would ask for advice.

I'll take your butt fat! HA! Really! I have a flat butt. I know the more fat I loose the more my butt will show up but still I envy those with BIGGER booties.
I agree with walking it off. Squats and lunges are good for working out the bootie too. ;)

In regard to your job, yes it is a very physical job. But, your body is used to is, so while it does seem like exercise to you....if your body is use to is you will need to do something like walking. Do you get what I mean?
A lot of folks who are on their feet all day....like waitresses or nurses. They think all the walking they do all day is enough, but if their bodies are use to it they would need to add on other physical activity in order to benefit from it.
It's similar to someone who does exercise regularly. If you do it for a long time your body adjusts and if you want to see more benefits from the exercise you have to step it up a pace. Either run faster or longer...or if your lifting weights you add on weight and lift more.

Okay, perhaps you could massage your own bootie? No sarcasm at all, I have just heard that whereever you have cellulite, that is a good thing to do, as it helps to remove the toxins.
Also, there is a website that has a skin tightening system based primarily on a skin brushing method, alfalfa, blow your buns something or other.... Anyway, I think it could be worth checking out. Its called t-tapp.com. Just a suggestion as many people on there are focused on removing cellulite w/out adopting the raw lifestyle, though.

Oh yes, the designer of the exercise system, cellulite reduction system is a trainer for models, etc, so she is EXTREMELY familiar w/cellulite.

I would love to have some of that! My butt is almost totally gone now. It's hard to sit. What I wouldn't give for some jiggly cellulite instead of a butt that looks like a deflated balloon! So ... there's some perspective. I am not belittling your concerns, either; I'm trying to inject a little levity. I can tell that you're very concerned about this, and I agree with those who have said that you might try some vigorous exercise.
But ... more than anything --
Ok, I have been eating 85% raw for 2 months now.Go 100% raw! Then, in a couple of months, let us know how it looks! Betcha it will look a lot different.
(I know there may be a few people here who are not 100% and who may not like what I've written. bBut, if y'all have been here for any time at all, you know what the message is -- it's that you're not going to see transforming results until you go 100% raw. So, just jump in and do it. The water's fine)

Even when I was thin and young I had a Goddess Ass,
Now, I think many women have a little baby Barbie doll butt,
but I had a GODDESS ASS.
And no matter what I did, it just got bigger, I lost weight it got bigger, I used to think it was an Alien Implant of somekind, and it never got smaller.
I was 34, 22, 38 in 6th grade, so there you have it, I weighed about 112, and I was only 11 years old.
No matter how much I exercised my butt got bigger.
I know alot of women with flat butts, but I will never ever have a flat butt, which also means I will always attract guys.
Now, personally, I think this is a good thing.
However, I do sympathize with your big booty plight as it is mine also.
Usually women with a big butt, have tiny little waists, which makes your butt look bigger, but trust me on this, men like it.
NOW, at 52, I still have guys hitting on my because of my big butt, and I weigh over 200 pounds (or at least I did a few months ago, who knows now)
Anyway, you can exercise, you can jog, you can massage and you can diet, but the only way you are gonna lose some of that booty is to eat raw and not eat meat or dairy, dairy is the biggest butt builder there is.
So, hope this helps your situation, personally I just decided to find me a man who loves my butt and that makes me super happy, he thinks I am a Beautiful Goddess, and I'm happy with that.

HA! Me too! I found a man who loves BIG WOMEN. He has been calling me a Goddess lately and bending down to kiss my toes. :D Yes I know TMI! But he loves me big and just this morning he said "You are not going to get too skinny on this are you?". hehehe I just want to loose my belly, that is where I carry all my extra weight. I have a Santa Belly. HA!
I just thought of another thing for Cellulite, Alissa mentions this in her book about drinking freshly sqeezed grapefruit juice. Another recipe along these lines that I read in Eating for Beauty is grapefruit juice, orange juice and lemon juice mixed together.

You have to consider how long your body has had a particular shape. All cells have memory and it takes a period of TIME to not only recreate a different shape, but to give your cells time to create a "memory" for that new shape.
And yes you have to increase resistance and push your body to harder limites if you want to see change.

Funny thread.
Actually everyone is so right, as women we are sooooo very hard on our bodies. I had lost a ton of weight and was not healthy. 94 lbs at 5 feet 3 inches and an old boss who is male saw me after a few years and said "Oh my gosh, you look horrible, are you sick?"
Then my women friends would see me and say "Oh my gosh, you look great, what are you doing to lose all that weight?"
That's should tell you something right there.
Also on the exercise, I used to lift weights and my husband is a body builder and he is constantly changing is "plane of motion" because your body gets "immune" to a certain kind of exercise and you will stop losing weight doing the same thing even if it is really great exercise. So you kind of have to change it up every once in a while to keep losing the weight, plus is saves boredom. That's what he says. :)
No matter what anyone else says or thinks, we all have to be comfortable with ourselves at the end of the day though, so keep on it, and you will lose it! Yoga is also really fun and good for that by the way. My mom and I took a class together and had a blast!

I have enjoyed reading everyone's posts on this subject. I get a bit frustrated at times because I meet people who don't eat well or exercise and they don't have any cellulite. I have clients who are overweight who don't have any. I feel cursed in a way. I also had an ex say pretty mean things to me, another reason why he is an x. My current bo says he likes it, but I can't help but compare it to all the barbie butts I see out here in southern california. It was looking a good a few years ago, but I was eating a lot of protein back then. Eggs for breakfast, turkey sandwich for lunch and a bean burrito for dinner. Also riding my bike a lot, which I don't do very much.
I was so discouraged yesterday because the day before I had eaten all raw and my butt looked worse, so I ate a lot of fattening foods yesterday like cheese, avacados and ended up eating some rolled tacos with guac late last night. I immediately got a headache. This morning I woke up with little hives on my hands and arms. Another clue I shouldn't be eating at the local taco shop. Well, Today is a new day and I will eat all raw today and doing some walking. I bought a taser gun and some pepper spray so I feel a little safer going on walks.
Thanks everyone for your advice, I now understand I need to get some circulation in my glutes, and maybe not be on the computer so much.
Have a wonderful day

Dear Solar:
A ton of what our body looks like is in our genes...no matter how much we diet, what kind of food we eat, or how much we exercise., there are certain things we can't change.
No offense intended here at all, but many ethnic groups have a particular physical trait that distinguishes them, eyes, butt, skin, hair. Many of us have genes that are a blend of ethnic groups, and have changed the 'pool' somewhat.
My body is quite different from my only sister's. I'm short waisted, she's longwaisted. She's always had the hourglass figure with no trouble at all keeping her weight down (used to be called string bean as a child). She's never dieted in her life and couldn't empathize with a struggler. I'm 5'3 1/2'' and weigh 145. At 61, I wish I still weighed what I did 20 years ago. However, no matter how much I weigh, I have a flat butt, with fat deposits on the sides of my hips in the back...I call them 'shelf hips'...great little area to prop up a child. I have never had saddle bags, but my daughter who is 5'5" and weighs only 130 does...even at 120, her thighs are wider than mine.
I never had cellulite until after I had a hysterectomy at 56. My daughter had a little obvious cellulite at 14, weighing just 115, and was a weight lifter and tae kwon do black belt....go figure.
Too much emphasis is placed on what we look like. No culture in all of history has had so much pressure, and look at what it has done to us.
Sometimes all we can do is try....
to be happy with our bodies
to be satisfied with life in general
to be the best we can be at any time in our lives
to live life so that others are blessed with our presence
.....no matter our size or shape
I've seen the Brazilian butt lift operation on TV (on men and women), and believe me, there is no way I'd do it.

>>No culture in all of history has had so much pressure, and look at what it has done to us.<<
Thank you for making this comment. I often wonder what it was like for women in the days before mirrors were a household item, before there was TV and magazines. When you got a glimpse of your reflection maybe in a stream or puddle of water but that was it. When women only compared themselves to other real women, and not to photoshopped images. I bet women were a lot happier with their looks back then! And NOT getting plastic surgery on their labia (shudder).
Anyhow, it's all in how you carry yourself. If you walk around like you are the finest thing around you will project that, no matter your butt or belly size or what have you.

Well, Today is a new day and I will eat all raw today and doing some walking.OMG!! Solarliving!! Girl -- what is going on in that pretty head??? Let's have a reality check. You are NOT going to see the results of what you eat on your body the next day after you've eaten it!! And ... what you eat doesn't go to a certain part of your body. Please, please give yourself a break. I have no doubt that there are thousands of women who would like to look like you. Where in the world does this self criticism and self-defeating behavior come from? Can you possibly give yourself a break while you try to figure this out --- and DON'T look at your butt!! Try going one entire day, then another, than another, then perhaps you might break the habit. This obsession is not doing you any good at all. I wish I could say the perfect magic word that you would make you love yourself just the way you are ... and be patient with yourself. But, of course, I can't. You're going to have to figure out a way to do that yourself. I'm sure everyone on this forum will continue to be here to support you, as am I, but ... you have to be the one to give yourself a break.
They were active ALL the time -- running, pushing, lifting, bending, working hard with their bodies almost all the daylight hours. Their bodies were instruments of labor ... whereas we are suffering from an epidemic of extreme inactivity which started with the Industrial Revolution, was fueled time & motion studies and time-saving devices. We moved away from being grounded in the change of the seasons and the rhythms of the day -- light and dark -- to the point where we're now tied to the mechanical -- the clock, machines, and we've even manipulated the sunlight with Daylight Savings Time. Inactivity and sloth is now so widespread and normal-seeming that someone who is extremely active is often considered to be addicted to exercise. Our lives are radically different. And, often, an emptiness of the spirit leads us to fill the hole inside of us with eating, shopping, working, and entertaining ourselves with technology. Women of that time were almost like another species, differing from us in ways much more profound than the absence of mirrors.
I feel that eating raw is a maybe small step back in touch with those that came before us -- and a more simple era (though much more dangerous, rough and short-lived time).

I am a little disappointed that some of the comments on this thread fall into the "if I'm okay you're not okay" category. "Real women have curves" "goddess ass [presumably are all round?]" and "men like women with meat on their bones" may appear to be positive affirming messages but where do they leave women with small behinds? Is it really any better than saying only flat heinies are attractive? Perhaps any genuinely helpful discussion on the topic would avoid such comparisons and seemingly kind affirmations.
Having read male authors, talked with many close male friends and observed happily married couples I find it is safe to say there are as many men who are attracted to each body type as there are women with those body types. But does what men think have a place in a discussion about women's healthy body image? Aren't we talking about how we perceive ourselves, not how other women or men perceive us? Or god forbid, mass media?
I dare say it doesn't even matter whether my great grandmother literally worked her ass off in the fields all day. The truth is, she was much more concerned with putting food on the table and whether her husband and children were happy and healthy than the size of her derriere. She probably never even saw it, being behind her and all. I have a tattoo on my lower back and it still surprises me to catch a glimpse of it; I forget it's there.
For years the only mirror I had was a small hand mirror. Not out of reverse vanity, but because I moved so frequently larger mirrors tended to break. And I didn't miss it, either. I finally got a full length mirror when I got a job at a department store and had to look presentable. I hate it, hate the occassional impulse to look myself over. What starts out as an act of curiosity inevitably ends up a full on critique of my body. Completely unnecessary. It doesn't serve a useful purpose, and I'm giving a lot of thought to throwing it out.

Italian genes are great ....oh yea ...but I have body dismorfic disorder and when i see pictures of myself i look completely different in them then i do in the mirror.....I agree with christa ......what i had turned out to become an obsession to be perfect...all the compliments in the world means Nothing to me ....it has to do with me looking in the mirror and feeling good about myself.....and i think that everbody should think that way ...feel good about you and don't give a damn what others think ...
well easier said then done ...i am still working on that
haha on a lighter note if anyone needs any donation I have quite enough booty to go around hehe ;)

PixieGreen -- very well stated, clear and cogent. Thanks for the voice of sanity.
I know most people were being lighthearted about men and big bottoms, but it's good to actually state (what I hope is) the obvious -- there is no one female body type that appeals to "all" men any more than there is one type of man who appeals to all women.
I think the very important message here, though, is that we must be realistic about our bodies and what we eat, we must be loving to ourselves, and we must guard against having a skewed body image. Vigorous exercise must be an integral part of our daily lifestyles -- Alissa discusses this thoroughly in her book as do all the other raw authors -- and, without it, eating raw will not, alone, give us radiant health.

Ladies, I am fainting.
You are all goddess'...all of you. You carry the divine, sacred feminine energy. YOU ARE NOT YOUR BODY!! It is a vessel...a temporary gift that allows you to experience life in the physical world~it is your most precious outfit. Without it you would not have been able to experience the many wondrous things that you have so far in your lifetime. Bless you bodies.
As far as this "what men like" and comments like you experienced vixana....argh....any male who would say such a thing is someone who has such a lot of growing left to do, you dont need to bother with them.
This entire concept, the mentality, can change, when we, men and women alike, simply refuse to buy it any longer. And you can only start with yourself.
And whoever asked "I often wonder what it was like for women in the days before mirrors were a household item" , if you read through history, there were periods, such as the 1100's as one example when it was a hundred times WORSE!!
We have come a small way and it is up to me and you to make that a long way.

I have to agree that we are all goddesses no matter our size. I don't know when I started comparing myself to other women so much. Maybe I should lay off Access Hollywood. : ) Also I used to blame some of what I consider, "my Flaws," on various bad habits. Like smoking with dry skin. I guess I expected everything to go away once I gave up all the things I considered to be toxic. I used to suffer from lightheadedness and was diagnosed with borderline hypoglycemia a few years ago and ever since I have quit smoking I feel a lot better. Eating raw for breakfast and lunch has helped my mood swings as well. I suppose the last thing for me to add to my lifestyle is some exercise, for health's sake.
Thanks Girls,
You are all very beautiful,

If only it were about feeling good about me.... I'd be plenty happy to keep them because they do, indeed, get attention when I need them to.
I've had chronic trouble with a shoulder which seemed to somewhat resolve when I stopped doing dressage. Sorry if TMI here but my instructor would ask me if I was wearing a bra because of... erm... movement and she'd be astonished when I informed her that I was wearing 3 bras. I haven't had much back trouble but the shoulder still flairs up often. I keep hoping that the girls will readjust themselves but I'm beginning to think that I will find they are still too much when I'm at my ideal weight. I've still got at least 25 lbs to go. Again, a TMI moment but 40 lbs of weight loss has only reduced me from a DDD to a DD.... and a large DD at that. Thank god they don't LOOK that size.

I have to agree that we are all goddesses no matter our size. I don't know when I started comparing myself to other women so much.
I have to say that, somewhere along the line, I stopped comparing myself to others and just looking at what was good for me. I think it happened when I got married and was pushing 200 lbs (topped out at 220). I looked at a picture of me at age 20. I'd been unwell for 2 years, fighting an unknown ailment which turned out to be gallstones. From age 18 to 20, I thought I looked fantastic. I was thin enough to be happy about it. I probably weighed 140 or so. But at age 23 or 24, I looked at a picture taken of me ag age 19 and I realized how ill I looked. I was green and my cheeks were sunken in. Remembering that I thought I looked good back then, I readjusted my idea of what was good for me.
Now, here's the amusing part.... I have been looking at myself in the mirror these last couple days thinking I look fine and dandy but I don't think I look any different than I did a few months ago (about 2 months into raw). However, I tore through my closet yesterday morning looking for something to wear and all my beautiful silk blouses looked like gunny sacks on me!!!! (Went shopping yesterday, LOL) I think that, in my mind, looking at myself in the mirror at 200+ lbs for 3 - 4 years, I never really saw myself at that size. I still had this image of little, size 12 me. So, when I lost weight, I didn't see the change because I'm now back to size 12 me... Only my head thought I always was. I was always stunned when I would see a pic of me at 200+.
Sorry for the rambling... my point is, I was always comfortable with what was good for me. Even at 220, I knew I wouldn't keep the weight forever and I knew that I would do my best to be healthy so I didn't sweat it. No matter what, I always thought I looked beautiful and I KNEW I was beautiful inside. Please remember to do the same for yourself.

I was reading about this mirror business and it reminded me of a painful Christmas a few years ago.
We have several large mirrors in the house in which I could check myself out from all angles. However, I usually just asked my husband before he left for work if I looked alright from the back (everything tucked in, laying nicely, no holes, runs, unzipped zippers, etc.). On Christmas morning, I unwrapped a huge, beautiful oak framed full-length mirror. I was in horror! He thought all that time that I would love to have a full-length mirror. He never knew that the reason I asked him to 'check me out' was that I couldn't stand to look at myself in the mirror.
For months I had to pretend to use my new mirror while he was in the bedroom. I'd stand in front of it and close my eyes and he never knew the difference.
