I know it is only December but the whole Oprah thing got me thinking. We should all decide on our resolutions now before December 31st!! I have a feeling it will be a lot of commitments to raw, but guess what <whisper> we're on a raw forum. But what else? Kick the coffee? alcohol? begin exercising? shop locally? seasonally? save money? go 100% for 365 day? Begin a new juice fast? Before/After Photos on the 5th of each month? Writing a book on raw?
As for me.. I have some ideas but I want to see all of your ideas before I commit. That's the beauty of this post happening on the 10th of December we have time to decide and change our minds!

I don't do resolutions. I live each day to the fullest because life is short and why NOT live like that? :D

Hey Nayeli - great post!
hmmm....you've got me thinking now....your comment about 365 raw days really sparked me into thinking about it on that scale. I think that may just be my resolution. Thanks for the inspiration!:)

Screw January, I started my New Years Resolutions early. I call it the transition period. I allowed myself to eat SAD for Thanksgiving, even though I did well even doing that. I didn't stuff myself with food like I did in the past. I did well just getting enough to happily celebrate the occassion without trying to be gluttonous about it.
After the Thansgiving weekend, I said I would transition myself into being 100% raw so when January hits, I can actually be 100% raw.
But my New Years Resolution is too...
1. Be 100% raw.
2. Use my expensive Excalibur Dehydrator. I had it for a year and don't even use it.
3. Get into fitness.
4. Stop going to Starbucks. My only out of the house "food" place that I go to. Getting those sugary coffees or hot chocolate and biscottis or donuts. STOP IT!!!! Well, if I go, I will only allow myself to get tea to keep me warm during the winter. Not that syrupy coffee and hot chocolate and no pastry.

The thing about resolutions is that it is really harmful to conjoin the thing you want to quit with shame. It's akin to self-hate, and that will bring you back to it, ironically.
Instead of negatives, like I'm quitting X…you can say, X has served its purpose because…blah blah blah, but y is more useful because…blah blah blah.
My resolution is to do more of the good things I'm doing and less of the bad things. Imagining the bad stuff as a cloud that protected me for a long time, but doesn't serve its purpose anymore.
The less judgmental you can be, the easier it is to let it go. Don't reinforce the shame.
However, my resolution is to learn more about myself to get the most out of life. And to buy an iPhone. :D

My resolution is to start volunteering. My husband & I don't have kids, so I have a lot of free time. In the evenings, we typically just watch TV and read. I feel like I need to add something into my life that I can be more passionate about.
There is an organization here called The Raw Network of Washington and this past week I went to a volunteer orientation. I have met twice with the President now, and I have committed to become the Board Director of Public Relations for the next two years. I will be overseeing the web site and marketing materials for the organization which will be really fun and give me a chance to be creative! I'm also excited that it is a long term commitment because I know that raw is a lifestyle for me, not a short term fad or diet.
Think her last name is Smith...:D
I thought it was Doe?:p
I'm going to focus on meeting more people. For some reason, I'm interested in getting to know more people. Appear more open. Doing something a little different everyday.

Oprah? Oprah who? How about Jones?
It's actually Oprah Smith-Doe-Jones!
Okay! Anyone else? LOL!!!
I JUST was thinking about something like this earlier. It wasn't really on my mind that I should be making a resolution for New Years, just one in general. I was rushing to get to Bikram Yoga even though I have a TON of stuff today for a couple projects I'm managing with work (plus on top of that, starting a biz is a lot of paperwork if you follow the laws and proper paperwork, sheesh!). I'm getting things done before I go to London (leave 6 AM Friday. Ack) and thought I'd throw in 4 hours to get to yoga, do it, come back, was running late... And I missed the train, barely. Then I left my keys on the ground, realized it after I was on the next train. Then I missed the bus, barely. At that point it was too late to get to yoga.
And I realized... I can't do everything. I can't be perfect. I'm human (not superhuman!!). So if some things don't get done, I am newly committed to being OKAY with that and still being happy enough with me as I am.

Eat more greens.
Be more organized.
Be kinder to my parents.
Manage my time better.

Here are a few that come to mind:
I want to make my life less centered around the food that I eat
I want to be able to have fun without it revolving around food (getting easier now that I am raw, but I still associate a lot of fun things with food, and I am having trouble having fun with things things without the food)
I want to work harder at adding more variety to my diet
I want to get better at food shopping - I dont have a routine, and I end up in the store spending money I do not have to all of the time because I am not organized!

Begin working out again now that I am back at the gym. (took November off since I quit my job, no free membership, but I got a job at another gym so yay!)
Commit to raw and chill out on the fruit. It is giving me a tummy ache snacking on citrus all day, I really need to do this another way.
Shop local store, less franchise and big coorporate stores.
Eat with the seasons in turn eating more locally grown foods.
Give birth to my baby and help my son to be a helpful and wonderful big brother as I know he will.

RawPaw -
Amen. I really like how you put that. Definitely a much better way of seeing it, and it's giving me something to reflect on. Thank you!

Last year I made a list of things that I resolved to do!:D
I'll use that list again this year. It's still as good as new!::mad::(

For starters,
*Change new year resolutions to New Year Achievements.
*Letting go of outcomes.
*Accepting what is.
*Allowing and Flowing.
*Love be-ing the only feeling that exists....all else are emotions that aren't real.

I'll add: be more cognizant of the amount of espresso I drink.

I am starting now, but my resolution is to go through each item in my house and get rid of (or donate) what is garbage, not used, and doesn't reflect who I am. For my husband and 3 children, when I run across their things, I am going to put their things in a box, so they can go through it themselves.
Although we have a lot of nature around us, I plan on bringing more nature and natural products indoors.
My husband loves doing this kind of thing.
My family creates wish books around New Years for things they want to create in their lives. We use magazines to cut out pictures or words and draw things ourselves. It something the kids look forward to, even as teenagers now. It is amazing to go back and see how many of the things were manefested.

Wow, what a beautiful idea. What do you call the books?

I thought I was the only still going to Starbucks for Hot Chocolates or Soy Mocha's ;) I don't think I'll say I wont' do these for a resolution.
I was talking to a Friend about New Year's Resolutions. I normally don't do them because, they end up being a set-up for failure with me. BUt, I do have some ideas of what I am wanting to focus on this year and achieve.
I want to be More Positive.........To see the Good in All and in All Situations!
I want to be Healthier and bring Vegan and Raw into my heart!
I want to be Loving to Myself, My Family, My Friends, My Animals, And all other Living Creatures!

No resolution, but a few goals for next year:
*Grow my own food. I have over a half acre that just sits there and grows weeds, I might as well use it.
*Try to find SOMETHING I can do online to make some extra money. I keep hearing about all these people who work from home, but I don't have a clue what it is they do. There has to be something I can do. I don't want to commit to a job (even if there was one in this area), because I want to be able to go to Germany, for extended periods if possible. It would be nice to have a job that can come along with me.
*Become a little more social. I have wanted to join a local hiking group or the gardening club. I've owned my house since 2001 and lived here fulltime since mid 2005 and know exactly one person.
I could come up with tons more stuff, but that would become overwhelming and I would end up not doing anything at all.

Oh, yeah consume more green smoothies in my diet. Maybe one day have Shia fix me green smoothies for breakfast. Serving it to me in bed as he kisses my head "good morning."
A girl can only dream.
