Hi -
This is Robert, from RawFoodLife.com. I've been one of the largest dealers of Good4U dehydrators on eBay and recently had to stop selling most of them myself. The reason is that they basically are sold out (I have a few 6 tray models left). I've replaced them with another brand that is EXACTLY THE SAME, made in the same factory in China. It is called the VegiKiln, and this distributor is much bigger than Good4U, so they will not run out! In addition, they provide a very high level of quality control, which smaller companies can't offer. I am just starting to list the VegiKiln dehydrators on eBay. I will have 6, 8 and 10 tray models available. I am still a Good4U dealer and when they come out with the blanks tray fronts, I will have those available in my eBay store (but you can use aluminum foil to close a tray front easily, too). My first listing on eBay is for a 10-tray model (item #350138970882) or contact me at robert@RawFoodLife.com for more info.

So, if there's a problem, who handles it? Does it have to go back to China? Do they have a repair facility in the U.S. or elsewhere?
If a tray is removed to add larger items, is there a way to cover the tray?

Yeh, China. I tried for many years to not buy things made in China. It was a big part of my green philosophy, including being raw, recycling, regularly hugging a tree, stuff like that. Unfortunately, almost everything is made in China these days, so I let that one slip. I still hug trees.
The expensive competitor, of course, is still made in America. That's great if you can afford to spend 30% more money than Good4U/VegiKiln. Until recently I bought my dehydrators at thrift shops. I have met lots of people that want to add a dehydrator to their burgeoning raw lifestyle only to find they cannot afford a good one. Now they can. So I pick different battles. Instead of tilting at windmills, I focus on what is really important to me - sharing the opportunities, vibrant health, and many of the challenges, of a raw food lifestyle. That is something I am committed to because it really helps people...and it needs to be accessible to everyone.
Done properly over time, it is actually cheaper to live raw! When you eat organic, nutritionally dense, delicious raw foods, and your body learns to absorb all the nutrition (which happens over time as you clean out), you actually eat less! Conventionally grown cooked food has a fraction of the nutrition in an organic raw lifestyle and you're hungry all the time. So in these harsh economic times, a raw food lifestyle (a) makes you healthier, lowering medical costs, (b) helps you eat less, saving on food bills, and (c) with the use of a dehydrator to preserve food instead of wasting it, lowers your food costs even more. So pick your battles http://www.rawfoodtalk.com/images/smilies/smile.gif
If there is a problem I just replace the unit at no cost to you. They're really very simple electric appliances...about as complicated as a hair dryer, so not much can go wrong.
When you remove a tray you can cover the remaining space with aluminum foil, which is what I do. Some people just toss a kitchen towel over the front - it works, too. Good4U is having "blank" tray fronts made (in China of course), and those will be in my eBay store when available.
Thanks,
All good points. We do have to pick our battles. And we all have to pick them ourselves. I'm happy with my Excalibur right now, but it's certainly nice that there are alternatives.
Actually, I've got some flax crackers and granola bars in the "D" right now. They sure do help me to stay raw when I travel and/or want something other than a straight apple or orange or whatever. :)

LOL you better get outta the room! hahaha. Revvell, I'm not sure what that means! But it's cool. I actually do make an effort to buy locally made items, wherever I am... but I also do other things "wrong" sometimes! Anyways, it's no matter... We're all grown ups. Nanny nanny boo boo. ::Runs out of the room. tee hee hee::

I don't see where the "battle" is. We choose what we want/like/need... what works for us. There's no fighting involved. I must be missing something here.
