Hi Everyone!

I'm currently on day 5 of my juice fast. I probably only drink about 1 cup of juice a day... and dilute that with water. The rest of the day is water and herbal teas. I've been trying to balance 50% fruit juice and 50% vegetable juices. I've found it hard to do 100% vegetable juices... maybe I just have a bad juicer but I'll put in tons of spinach and only get a few tablespoons of juice. I've had better luck obviously with celery and cucumbers.

Here's what I have primarily relied on for juicing the last few days:
- Cucumbers, Celery, Spinach, Wheatgrass, Oranges, Lemons, Limes

I've recently read a few articles saying that 1. fasts that include fruits are not very efficient (because they provide too much sugar too fast?) 2. especially fresh orange juice should not be consumed during a juice fast

I realize that a green juice fast would likely be ideal... but to be honest I'm not experienced enough to be able to stomach that.

Any advice or reassurance that I'm not doing this completely wrong would be helpful... or if i am doing it all wrong please tell me!! I don't want to go through all of this for nothing!
:)

Peace and love
Katie

Katie,

I just completed a 12 week fruit juice fast. Yup you read that right... 12 weeks of fruit juice. I drank orange, pineapple, watermelon, apple/pear/ginger for the most part. Approx 1-2 litres of juice a day. Sometimes more - sometimes less.

There is no right or wrong way to fast... but there is YOUR way.

And you are barely consuming any juice at all, you are doing more of a water fast than a juice fast (at least the way I look at it)... so no worries about how much of ANY juice you are consuming.

I've also done a 45 day juice feast where you consume 1 gallon of juices a day.

So remember... anything is possible. If it's working for you, that's all that matters!!!

and here's a blog you may enjoy reading... it's Rob's orange journey. He does something a little different here and there but he's been orange juice for awhile if you read the archives of his blog.

Hi Katie

Opinions vary a lot, even among professionals, because the human body is so amazingly wonderful & complex. As such, personal experience may vary much too. It is true that modern day fruits are inbred (cross-hybridization..) with higher sugar content than in days of olde. Also, remember that the fruits (a perfect or near-perfect food, if you include the seeds) are much more aggressive - like a detergent - in dislodging & removing toxins. As the great N.W. Walker said, "Fruit are the cleansers, vegetables the builders."

Personally, I can drink gallons of OJ and thrive. Others may need to dilute. If in question, moderation/balance is most often the wise choice.

So, yes.. you can enjoy to your heart's content, in keeping with your body's comfort zone.

It depends on what you want to heal. Cancer, for example, is fed directly by sugar, so orange juice on a fast for healing cancer would not be good. If you have hypoglycemia or diabetes, then sugary juices like orange juice are also not ideal.
If you can handle the sugar, orange juice is a wonderful cleanser and alkalizer, and tastes great.

My last fast lasted for 152 days. I drank fruit juice only. It was what my body wanted. Fruits are very healing and they rid the body of toxins faster than anything, especially citrus fruit.

Oranges are in season right now and they are all I have consumed for the past 6 days. I feel wonderful! I fast M, W & Fridays, drinking fresh OJ, then I eat them the rest of the week, not sure how long this will last, but in this moment my body is craving oranges. They are so good right now.

If you are juice fasting I do believe you need to be drinking more fresh juices, whatever you choose to drink. Your body will tell you what to do, just be mindful and listen.
