View Full Version : Sprouting in a Bowl
I've used the banana search, but didn't find what I was looking for, although I'm sure someone has posted about this.
Alissa mentions sprouting in bowls on her DVD, but I don't know how.
Can someone please share how to do this?
I've been sprouting in a mason jar and colander (with larger seeds) and now I'd like to try the bowl. All help appreciated - thank you! *Ü*

Seeds will sprout anywhere. Just soak, rinse and wait. Make sure they do not sit in water and it will happen.
Thank you spicyfull, I appreciate your reply!
I'm pretty new to sprouting and luckily have had great success with everything I've tried.
So, I soak the seeds in the bowl overnight (or for xx hours) - then how do I go about rinsing? Do I need to dump the seeds from the bowl into a colander, rinse and put them back in the bowl every time I rinse?
Any help appreciated ~ TIA. *Ü*

I really think, why a bowl? I think it is more difficult in a bowl but if you must. You would want to cover the bowl with Cheese Cloth when you pour the water off, this keeps your seeds from going down the drain. Rinsing is a process that keeps the seeds from drying out. You should rinse several times a day.
Soaking depends on how hard the seed is. If it soaks enough it will sprout sooner during the rinsing process. Some seeds need only a couple of hours of soaking. You will learn best by trial and error. You also never want to DROWN your seed which will result in killing them.
If your seeds are in a container that drains, like the Colander, you can do the rinsing by misting them often with a Spray Bottle. The key is to keep them moist, NOT SITTING IN WATER, and they will soon have little wiggly tails, well they don't actually wiggle.
By Sprouting you can S-T-R-E-T-C-H your RAW Budget because it is one of the Cheapest way to stay RAW.
Using a Mason Jar as you mentioned is one of the best ways to Sprout. They sell tops especially for sprouting, they also have large holes for Big seeds and small holes for small seeds and you just add water and pour it off and watch them Grow through the Clear Jar and you will have a SHOW EVERY DAY.
Sprouting is the First Step the Next Step is "PLANTING A GARDEN" ......IN JOY.

Thank you very much spicyfull, I do appreciate your help with this!
I just wanted to 'try' sprouting in a bowl before I landed on what works best for us to sprout. Sort of an experiment. I remember Alyssa mentioned it in her DVD, but I didn't see her showing anything about it - so I wondered how best to do it.
I'm thankful that I've had great luck so far with the jars and colanders. We're really enjoying have the fresh sprouts. My husband's favorite snack is to take a piece of Ani Phyo's black sesame seed bread, pile it with sprouts and tomatoes and top it with a piece of RAWvolution's onion bread.
So tasty! Thanks again spicyfull and Moretta. *Ü*
