so last nigh i told my mother in law that i have been eating raw... she thinkinks it's good. it was accually kind of funny. after telling her she asked if chinese food is raw, and i said "no" then is mexican food raw..LOL again i said "no" i am going to visit her for christmas and she told me that there would be enough raw food for me to eat there. she just noved into her new house and told me her stove wasn't working ;) and that she has a boyfriend and he is a vegan!!! and that he will be there for christmas dinner... sounds like christmas will be fun. :D i am glad she took it the way she did. just wondering how my other family members will take it.

Sounds like a great MIL. My DIL is super closed minded and not the most desirable one to see. She hardly smiles...doesn't know about eye contact and super uncomfortable around people years later. Glad she is not my neighbor but no choice who son married. Wish I could trade her in and have someone like you. You can communicate. She's clueless on that word except with her family and holidays/birthdays are times for hours of gift exchange.

Enjoy Christmas. RAWK their socks off with your creations.

Sounds like a nice MIL you have there. Xmas will be much easier for you to share with her, since she is understanding and her boyfriend is vegan to. That's a bonus. Enjoy.

Nadia, go into the situation with love - and research ;) Give your dad The China Study to read. Don't worry. It'll be fine. Don't let them discourage you. I still haven't won over my parents, and my MIL thinks I have an eating disorder (only because her friend's daughter as doing something "similar" (NOT) and is now in therapy for her mental illness and her organs that are shutting down). There is a difference between eating for health and eating for extreme weight loss, and neither should be an obsession.

Good luck to you in "The Talk." :) Lots of info out there to support your choice of life, and millions of testimonies!

aaah your lucky lucky :) my parents still think my diet is weird, or most ppl do anyway (well lets skip that otherwise ill be ranting forever)

they always think the diet is a waste of money (im not even 100% raw anyway!) like especially all the foods w sources of fats and proteins like avocados, nuts and seeds etc. and also that its inconvenient and all.

and then at christman when ppl are over they see you eat all these 'weird ' food and start questioning..whiiiichh i think is annoying but, alas.

so i gave him some sources to research raw food and he still thinks its ludicrous(gave him credible people ann wigmore, the china study, gabriel cousens, etc)
its funny because he's an m.d. yet he thinks u can only get carbs from grains....would think his years in school would teach him better
does anyone know if doctors get extensive education on nutrition? something tells me they DON'T
:)my sis on the other hand complemented me on my shiny hair and clear skin. she wanted to know what i had been doing. i told her about raw food and suprisingly she knew about it....raw food is apparently huge in california(where she goes to school)
she said she tried raw, but didn't like feeling hungry all the time and got scared when she began to feel ill.

Nadia: Ugh, that's got to be frustrating! I'm sorry, I didn't realize your dad was an MD.

You know, my mom is a nurse, and she always had advice for my grandfather, but my grandfather would never accept it from her. It doesn't matter that consistently his doctor would say exactly what she did for twenty years, he still could not accept any medical advice, because it was his daughter.

Family dynamics are fun. :P Well, he's got some reading material. I'll bet if the subject is dropped, he'll eventually read them and say, "Oh, maybe it's not that bad." Maybe he's also sort of projecting with the issue, or it's sending him into defense. I mean, if you had spent your life trying to fix people, and then something extremely simple and non-invasive comes up that is working, would you initially react hostile to it? Depending on where someone is in their life, this is going to happen.

Good luck to you. Glad your sister is happy!

Dread Head, great news about your MIL.

Nadia, doctors get on average 2 hour on nutritional training. That is two actual hours spent in the classroom, NOT 2 credit hours.

Dread Head - keep spreading the raw food love. Others will see your glowing example and will be inspired.

Yeah, sorry Nadia,

doctors have so little training in nutrition and nutrition as medicine that it's embarrassing!

My step father was an MD and had NO idea! Yet these are the people that the majority rely upon for health and wellbeing. For many, if a doctor says it's rubbish then it's end of discussion.

The things I saw and the advice I heard my step dad and other doctors give makes me cringe, especially these days when I know the single most influential factor on health is the food we eat. :(

But hey, things are changing, and dread head's MIL has the right attitude!

That is great that she responded so well. My MIL used to give me a lot of flack for eating raw. I kept getting sick and she said see that raw diet is making you sick. Lol. I think it was prob. my body releasing all the major toxins from years of eating fried food, smoking, drinking etc.
