and it was delicious. Honestly, it didn't smell bad at all!! Maybe because it was cold? It wasn't until I blended it and made Durian Carob Pudding that I could smell that distinctive sulpher aroma. It tasted like a mix of watermelon and garlic.
I only ate one section, and have about four more to go. (Not exactly sure how many - I only opened one section :P) Breakfast will be a banana-durian pudding. I like my pudding ;) It really is like custard right out of the shell! So creamy and yummy!
Even my bf liked it. I can't believe it.
I didn't get the euphoria most people talk about, but I was all singy, until I got tired (tryptophan?). Unexpected financial issues sort of ruined it, and for some reason I got super emotional about it, but that may have been building up for a few days.
Anyway, Durian definitely has my thumbs up!! Maybe my dragon would like some...? Our rats sure enjoyed their taste of it! It isn't on any "Do not feed" lists for rats or dragons, but they're all picky, anyway.
I'm off to eat the next section for breakfast ;)

They are selling them at Superstore now, not sure if they are in your area?

aw :( Well, you're always welcome!!
I was wrong about the smell of the Durian, though, now that I cracked open another section. Still, not as strong as everyone says!
My rats grabbed hold of my hands and would not let go until my fingers were licked clean. I didn't know they were that strong!
Even my dragon, who does not like fruit, ate it and liked it, or at least was nonchalant. If she doesn't like something, she lets me know asap.
Great stuff! I wonder what it is that the rats love. High vit C content?

I once tried some durian candy and I had to spit it out due to the garlic taste. I love garlic but when it's mixed with something sweet, I can't tolerate it.
You mention sulfur, does durian contain a high amount of it... I'm allergic to sulfur so if it does contain a high amount then that will add another reason for me to never try it lol

DURIAN is my favourite! It's simply perfect (for me). Eating one is almost a spiritual experience.

I found both frozen durians that I've had at the Asian market. Very nice people helped me pick out a nice one both times. Really did not expect to like it--really liked it A LOT. Was worth every penny of the splurge.

I totally wish they sold durian around here. I've been dying to try one...and I crave sulfur-rich foods!
I wish I could get them here too. I would love to try one!

I brought my friend over to try it today. She smelled it first - and I feel badly for laughing, but it was quite a show! She was very reluctant to try it, but my bf told her how good it was, and she did. She loved it, and we blended it with banana and spread it over almond butter and, for her, toast. I just ate the pudding, and added the rest to a green smoothie. Unfortunately, what was left in the bowl got smashed on the ground in a pile of broken bowl :(
